Crime and homeless uptick in LIC

It seems to be a daily occurrence now that there are crimes (theft, physical violence) around Queensboro/Court Square and disturbances by homeless(public defecation, general disorder) near Vernon/Hunters Point. It seems like the police (108th Precinct) never respond in time, so these reports never get recorded, creating a narrative gap between the crime data and what we actually experience.

We do need to raise these issues instead of downplaying them as simply part of “living in NYC.” LIC has one of the highest concentrations of children, and I’m sure many of us moved here for better safety and a better environment for our families.

CB2 recently released its yearly survey, so please take 3–4 minutes out of your day to raise these issues: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc1nvjA9OUeBJmjxAw4JBcVfGd-5baVdPnQGpAgjgpTSvpj1w/viewform

Korea now at 29 percent

Went from 83 percent to 29 percent chance of qualifying. Will keep updating after every match

https://www.reddit.com/r/KLeague/s/W1pRAbpPey

Edit: Cabo draw and Uruguay losing increased the chance to 42%

Edit: 24 percent after Egypt and Iran draw. two of three needs to happen:

  1. Austria to beat Algeria(no draw)
  2. Uzebekistan beat drcongo or draw
  3. Ghana beats crotia

Edit: Down to the grim: 15%. Both Austria beat algeria and Congo don't lose

Edit: Well see yall in 4 years

Korea still has 83% of advancing

Based on betting odds, I modeled each team’s goals as an independent Poisson and ran 300k Monte Carlo iterations.

The 8th-place cut was about 3 points with a goal difference of -1.86. Korea had 3 points with -1. They have about a 28 percent chance of being 7th and 25 percent of being 8th.

We’ll probably end up right above the cutoff, but the model currently shows 83%.

I’ll run the model as the games go on and keep you updated.

Edit: 64 percent after ecuador beat germany and secures 4 points

Edit: 56 percent after japan ties

Edit: 43 percent after Austrailia draws with paraguay. All three games have worked against korea favor today

Edit: 29 percent after senegal 4-0 win

Edit: 42 percent after uruguay getting knocked off

Gaining experience in sales

Alumnus of Baruch here, and I wanted to see if anyone is interested in spending the summer more productively by learning tech sales. It’s a bit of a side project that’s gaining traction, I don't have a budget to hire intern yet but can be interesting opportunity for maximum learning experience and getting foot in the door.

How do you think AI will change dental industry?

Seems like every industry is getting disrupted, do you think dental industry will be one of those? or are there disruption already happening?

Prom pic on corner of 57th ave and center blvd

There has been a nonstop stream of cars parked just to take pictures, blocking a driveway for both pedestrians and bike riders. I walk my dogs there frequently, and there shouldn’t be any reason why I need to step on the grass just to go around a car that isn’t even theirs.

It also affects the whole neighborhood, where people double park on the side and just won’t leave. There was a Facebook group post recently where someone had to wait 20 minutes, and when they finally asked, the lady said, “Oh, my daughter is taking a picture though, and I can’t miss it.” The entitlement of these people is insane.

There is also the 108 precinct, which doesn’t seem to do anything, and 311 complaints are useless as well.

This has been going on for a few years now, and every summer it seems to be getting worse. At first, it was a couple of cars maybe once a week, taking pictures quietly and leaving after 10 minutes. Now it’s endless waiting, with 100 people showing up, double parking along the entire street, flashing car lights, and causing disturbances every day until 2–3 a.m., with high beams on that block the whole street.

I’m not sure what the best solution is. Maybe installing a sculpture of some kind? Or the community pooling money to install boulders ourselves? If anyone else is interested, I’d be willing to contribute some money toward purchasing a fake boulder - prob will cost ~1k
