Letter from Dominic Chad

Catherine just posted this on Facebook.

The outpouring of love and happiness last week at the news that Dominic Chad was playing guitar on ‘What You Did’ on the new album was just so lovely to that I asked him to pen a few words to share with you all.

Today I received this lovely handwritten note (and a rare selfie!) to share with you all.

I hope you’re enjoying the new record. As We Once Were is out now ❤️

Dear Catherine,

I hope you've well and enjoying the Big Release Day!

Thank you for inviting me to contribute a few words that you can share with your supporters.

I just want to say what a pleasure it was, to play a very small part in the creation of your brilliant, new album.

What started with me hearing The Art Of Losing, loving it and ordering my copies (vinyl for home, CD for the car of course 🙂, has turned into a really lovely friendship – I do enjoy our chats and love to hear your thoughts on all manner of things.

I'm fortunate to be in the position that, if a human who I like asks me to be involved in the creation of something beautiful, I can freely say, "Yes!"

It was so lovely to spend a few hours in your fantastic studio – I seem to remember we spent a good deal of that time talking, until you finally decided we should probably get a few guitars recorded, hehehe! And how special to ditch my own guitar and instead use your own Country Gent – your first gift to yourself as a musician if I remember correctly? A beautiful-sounding guitar...

Once again, the very Best Of Luck with the album release and launch, and I'll look forward to hearing from you about how it all goes...

Sending Love,

Dom.

Dominic Chad's autograph - NYC 1997

I discovered Mansun on 5 August 1997 when they were supporting The Seahorses in New York at Irving Plaza. I immediately became a fan. After the gig I got Dominic Chad's autograph. The following day or so, I went to HMV and bought Attack of the Grey Lantern.

I had travelled to the NY from Europe for a week-long holiday. I was about to move to the UK where I got to see Mansun a couple of times at the London Astoria, in Liverpool, and in Ipswich.
