Did anyone else notice that there were NO original characters whatsoever in the Galaxy movie?

I don't see anyone talk about his, but I'm starting to wonder if it's a sign for the future of the series that they may not even want to debut a new character as a villain or just a new interesting side character.

While they didn't play massive roles, the first film DID have some original characters. Francis the dog, the Toad council, the Brooklyn couple, Giuseppe, and the rest of Mario and Luigi's family were also OCs. And on some level, you could also consider the blue shelled koopa general an original character since we've never seen him before as a character as opposed to a Mario Kart item. There's also the Penguin King, and arguably Lumalee. (Lumalee did debut in Super Mario Galaxy, but this one has a very distinctive personality)

Some of these characters do return in the sequel as cameos, but that means that it's not their debut, and all new characters in the Galaxy movie didn't actually debut in that movie. I'm not going to say it's a particularly massive flaw that the Galaxy movie has, as it's filled to the brim with tons of characters, but just being able to come up with new characters, even minor ones, could drive a fresh sense of creativity into these films.

Why This Doesn’t Feel Like Mario Galaxy

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is finally here… and Nintendo went BIG. After the first Mario movie made over $1.36 BILLION worldwide, the sequel had massive expectations to live up to — especially with it taking inspiration from one of the most beloved Mario games ever made. And while the movie is an absolute blast filled with chaos, comedy, and some incredible moments, there’s one major problem… for a movie called Mario Galaxy, the “Galaxy” part barely feels explored at all. In this review, I break down everything the movie gets right, where it stumbles, and why I still had a genuinely great time with it despite its flaws.

I added " Run It" to the first movie's credits because it fits the Mario lives better than the Sonic movies.

This song doesn't belong in the Sonic movies, but I say it works with the Mario movies because they're indecent.

Concept art for Petey Piranha in the Mario Galaxy Movie from the special features

My boy lost his chance to be in the movie... At least he still got a reference in the casino scene, but would've been cool to get some type of physical appearance (even if he would've been painted lol).

Based on promo art for Netflix's Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss. I advise you check out the show too, it's really good!

How I'd go about addressing one of the most common criticisms about Peach.

One of the most commonly sentiments I've seen about Peach is that she doesn't struggle enough. One way to fix this would be to put her in an adaption of TTYD Chapter 4. She would be stripped of her identity and friends, being left with absolutely nothing. She would be at her absolute lowest, and would be forced to fight against all of her closest friends, making it extremely difficult for her to take back what she's lost, even with Vivian's help.

(Also, this whole post is really me just trying to justify a way for Vivian to join the movies, but I genuinely think this would be a really cool idea.)

Remember when Luigi told Mario his plan to ask Peach out and then said to ask if she could find a girl for him?

Well, looks like you’re gonna to get your wish, Luigi.

Birdo Movie Question

I just watched The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. The credits is here as I type this.

Wart gave Birdo a task to find someone after being defeated. I was expecting to see Birdo returning back in the film. Whatever happened? Where is Birdo? I don't remember seeing Birdo ever again. Is this a loose end for the third Super Mario movie? I doubt Birdo will show up in the post-credits scene(s). I do know someone else shows up there.

I think Jr. actually landed the most hits

Did Peach land any hits? I mainly remember her blocking with her umbrella.

What's your take on Yoshi's story in Illumination movie?

First of all, consider the movie length is not long enough to conclude the entire videogame history, it's forseeable for some plot to be shortened or skipped in movie adaption.

But Yoshi obviously cannot get a proper favor as his debut is set to be within Galaxy, which is actually Rosalina's story. It leads to inevitable conflict between Yoshi's debut, which is supposed to a major role, and his actual supporting role in Galaxy's mainstory. On the other hand, Bowser Jr got the second most important role among the new faces, which makes Yoshi's existence even weaker.

Despite Yoshi always shows his support for the main characters, it's more like the plot expected audience to already knew what kind of character Yoshi is on the basis of videogames, and doesn't want to pay too much time to explain how he and Mario bros build their friendship and trust.

As for worldbuilding, Yoshi's origin was entirely skipped from the movie story as well. Altho the Galaxy story went through the Dino Planet for the sake of tribute to the events of Yoshi's Island, but at the end of day it's still not Yoshi's actual homeland and that doesn't give Yoshi's story too much depth.

The only way I can see redemption is making a Yoshi's own movie which entirely focuses on Yoshi's own story and his hometown without Mario bros' participation, but I don't think Nintendo already think that far at this moment.

Do you think the movie worked with Yoshi? Or you think it could had done better? Or you think the second movie should focus on Yoshi directly?
