Solo female and I will be arriving at MXP on aug 13th, I have yet to book my hotel yet, but I was going to stay close to the main train station. I will be in Milan all day on the 13th, traveling to Lake Como on the 14th and then back in Milan for a day on the 20th. There a lot of places I want to go while in Milan so trying to figure out how to do this.

This is my first time to Europe so wondering about the train and the prices. Here in the states in NYC you can ride the metros unlimited for $30USD/week. Is there something like this in Milan? If so do I need to purchase that somewhere or can I use my phone to just scan at the train stations?

Hi, I arrived in Milan today. I had a quick check-out from the airport and I only have two days in this beautiful city. I only have one chance to see a performance at the Teatro Alla Scala today, and unfortunately, there are no tickets left. I'm 24 years old and planning to move to the Lobardia region in the near future.
I currently have 2.5 years of experience as a full-stack developer. I speak English fluently, Hungarian natively, and some Romanian, I don't speak Italian yet, but I want to start learning soon.

I have a few questions:
How is the IT market currently there ?
Is realistic to find a dev job with English only at first or is basic Italian (A2/B1) almost mandatory nowadays? Are the international developers welcomed there?

Also, what method is the best to learn Italian the fastest way? I'm using Duolingo currently, but I feel it's too raw for me.

I am considering a serious offer from my previous company to return back to Milan region - but this time I return with a 7 year old, with different needs and priorities.

We are British, multilingual family but only I speak basic Italian to live and order good food and wine. Had moderate success with bureaucracy when my daughter was born in Milan. Left in 2020.

Now we are moving back, looking for English based schools and have short listed International School Milan (ISM) because of location - proximity to my HQ, located outside north west of Milan (15-30mins drive), Airports (MXP/Linate) and public transport (Trains / Bus to Milan for my wife, who hardly drives)

Looking around Bollate, Novate Millanese and Brazante. Open to further region but limited by whatever school buses can reach (e.g Arese).

Looking for general expat and local feedback on these towns, for a family to live in. Regarding International school vs Public school in those towns, for a kid with 0 Italian vocabulary - it makes sense to go private to *avoid* Italian based curriculum, in case I go international or homebound transfer again.

Rent between 1000-2500 EUR monthly, 2 bedrooms minimum, ideally 2 bathrooms for a 80-150msq, but I know it's rare as hens teeth here.

been living here 4 years and somehow never really thought about why the neighborhood is called Navigli in the first place. the canals were originally built way back starting in the 1100s to connect Milan to the surrounding rivers and lakes for trade. but heres the part that got me - in the late 1400s Ludovico Sforza hired Leonardo da Vinci to improve the lock system on the Martesana canal so boats could handle the elevation changes better.

he designed a system of consecutive locks that let boats move between different water levels without basically draining the whole canal each time. the dude was doing hydraulic engineering while also painting the Last Supper across town, kinda wild to think about.

you can still walk along the Naviglio Pavese and see remnants of that infrastructure, tho alot of it has been modified over the centuries. theres actually a dedicated path along the Martesana canal that goes all the way out towards Adda, been meaning to bike it one of these weekends. the lock at Conchetta is apparently one of the best preserved examples of the original design.

Hello. Visiting Milan in a couple of weeks for a weekend and would like to get an idea on the nightlife. We are two females and one male (late 30s). One night we'd like to hit a club for drinks, music etc but obviously don't want to look stupid if everyone is really young.

Any good parts of towns or bars or clubs people would recommend?

I don’t think we’ve seen such a presence in a long time. And lots of sirens in the evening.

Sempre più scioccato da quello che vedo nel mercato immobiliare (e non solo) a Milano, vorrei chiedere a chi vive e/o lavora lì e se la sente di condividere:

• stipendio netto percepito;

• affitto pagato;

• tipo di immobile (stanza, mono, bilo ecc.);

• zona (se va di dirlo);

• da quanto tempo lavorate / seniority.

• Ambito di lavoro

• (se ve la sentite, anche la vostra età)

Un po’ uno specchio della realtà, perché sembra sempre che a Milano siamo tutti super stipendiati o “manager”, mentre poi parlando con persone della zona, la situazione mi sembra molto diversa.

Sinceramente faccio sempre più fatica a capire come la gente faccia a camparci. Non mi riferisco solo alle zone centrali, ma proprio a Milano e hinterland, nel raggio di 10/15 Km, parlando proprio a livello di costi.

N.b. cerchiamo di mantenerla realistica e tranquilla, senza trasformarla nella sagra del “io ce l'ho più grande di tutti e voi siete povery💅🏻”.

Ciao a tutti. Mi piacerebbe molto iniziare un corso di teatro o almeno stare in un teatro. Mi piace molto l’arena che si respira lì. Avete consigli su come iniziare, dove cercare a Milano? Conoscete delle app, dei siti? Cercherei qualsiasi zona di Milano, meglio ancora se zona Brenta o nelle vicinanze.
