Higher fuel consumption than a V8 on 1.8 AAM

Hello everyone!

Just bought this 1996, 2 door, Golf mk3 Bon Jovi edition with the 1.8 AAM 75hp engine to register it as a historic vehicle.

It used to drink a lot of fuel and idle rough when cold, but the idle is fine now after changing the spark plugs' cables. The fuel consumption on the other hand... It goes 50km on half a tank, so it does about 20-25L/100km. I've driven more economical V8s than this... From what I heard it should use about 9-10L/100km in the city.

I have been doing some research, so I checked the intake air temperature sensor(it is good), the coolant sensor is good since I can see the correct temperature on the dash and tge thermostat is good because the engine's temperature is staying right in the middle of tge dial. I have a Vag-Com interface on the way, ordered it a few days ago.

Thanks everyone in advance!

New wheels

Found a 5x100 16x7.5 et38 momo ferraris for cheap

205/45r16 on them with 10mm spacer in the back. I think I'll swap to 12.5mm or 15mm later and shim to correct the camber in the back but happy with the slightly oem+ fitment! On coilovers so tempted to go lower but I think this is the sweet spot.

Have you discovered the power of the hot stapler? With all these brittle plastic bits, getting some serious use!
