Real km on 1993 Mk3?

Hi there! My 1993 Mk3 GTI marks 142666 km. It says "Total". Do you think this measuring is possible? Maybe someone changed the whole counter, or idk. The car is in good condition, not mint but well. I'll post photos of pedals if needed. Thanks!

Throttle cable

Good afternoon all!

Got myself a 1998 mk 3 and I need to change the throttle cable on it. Reading through my haynes manual, and it says i need to remove the facia trim, which is looking like quite a big job. Anyone got any experience changing a cable before and can give some useful tips?

Thanks in advance!

Strut mounts

Hello everybody,

I have recently installed coilovers on my mk3 hatch and there is a gap between the top mount and the other botom part. Should it be there? it also used to be there with the original struts, but the car had some sort of longer springs, since it was very high pff the ground. the top mount now is tightened tight. i noticed that this problem(or not) arose after i lifted my coil springs by a couple of cm. it wasn’t there before.

My Mk3 Movie edition

I started restoring this 1996 golf 3 in movie edition trim. Give me some ideas for mods. My goal is OEM+ style. Next i am planning on repainting these Remotec type B rims in alloy silver.

Mk3 power advice

This is my mk3, 16v gti, nearly 150k miles.
I bought it as a weekend driver nearly 2 years ago and have done less than 3000miles in it (I drive a work van mom-fri).
She drives beautifully, I think my sump gasket needs replacing (bought). Needs a full fluid change (new oil filter, sump plug gasket and oil bought + ramps), slight coolant leak somewhere but nothing I can’t keep an eye on and top up (fingers crossed just a butterfly clip I can tighten).
Previous owner redid the gear linkage himself, now sometimes 1st, 3rd and 5th can be a bit tricky. I’ve learnt the nuances myself but have to explain gear changes to friends, so I would like to have it smoother… so please me give advice on how to rectify that.

Then lastly, interior wise, my head lining is falling away… is it as bad of a job to replace as YouTube makes it out to be? Is it worth trying to do as a novice, or should I just pay someone to replace it?

Conflicting information on vento front end swap

I have been seeing some conflicting information on doing the vento swap. Some say the bumper is needed and I have even seen some say you need fenders. But everyone agrees on grill, lights, hood, and front panel.

Do I really need the the bumper or fenders?

Roof rack solutions?

Anyone know of a universal cross bar solution for the mk3? My 96 GL is roughly 40” between the gutters; pretty much all the universal, strap to the door frame bars I’ve found are a minimum of 43”. I know people have mixed opinions on this type of cross bar system but I’ve had a set on my old Honda for almost 8 years with zero problems and have hauled plenty of weight out there.

I’d rather not drill into the car to install mounts if it can be avoided, mostly because of the hassle, but also because the universal cross bars tend to be pretty cheap.

Anyone have thoughts or experience dealing with this?

Finally found a replacement for the MK3 steering column trim cover

Been chasing this part for months. Mine was cracked in two places and every used one I found online was in the same state or worse. VW obviously doesn't make them anymore and the few NOS ones floating around eBay go for ridiculous prices.

Stumbled across a Slovenian shop called O43D that reverse engineered both covers and prints them in PETG. Was a bit skeptical at first but figured I'd give it a shot.

Fitment was perfect. Clipped straight on, no trimming, no fiddling. Looks factory. They ship worldwide and had it at my door within two weeks.

OEM numbers are 1H0 953 515 G and 1H0 953 516 P if anyone else is searching for these. Definitely worth it if your original is trashed.
