Taking the plunge - topical fin, oral min + once weekly dutasteride

Taking the plunge - topical fin, oral min + once weekly dutasteride

It’s fair to say I love a wig - long hair - all different colours and styles - I’ve built up quite a collection. Last year I had a hair transplant which was my wake up moment. Could I now be able to grow out my hair? I’m adding topical high strength Min to help. I do it all - micro needling, oral min and oral min. Biotin collagen.

18 months later here I am - well at least trying to grow it out. Can I ask for thoughts, experiences and ideas from when you’ve grown out your hair.

The pic is me (no filters) but not my own hair.

Thanks in advance 🌸

Hairline still receding after multiple years of medication

Any advice on making it stop? Unless im just being paranoid, im afraid im going to lose my hair.

4.5 months on meds today!

Hey yall :3 just took some updated pics. This is 4.5 months of oral min/fin and 3 months of 6mg valerate injections and spiro. Plus tons of supplements, hair care, and red light.

My last clean shave was 2 months ago. So excited to see it fill in! Its pretty noticeable how different the length is on the top vs side, which is a bit annoying. But im scared to go to a hairdresser for a trim- so I will hold off for now.

Have a beautiful day ♡

Not on HRT (yet). Am I cooked?

Hi!

I've had long hair since I was 12 (battling gender norms my entire life babyyyyy). I'm now 20 and have realised I'm trans. My hair is longer now (shoulder blade length as you can see in the first photo.

My hairline is bad, and has been for years. It recedes right up past my temple. The top of my hair is VERY thin too, which is my main point of concern. My sides and back grow fine, with nice thick hair, but my scalp and "fringe" (it barely qualifies as that) are very thin, short and almost balding it seems.

In the last year or so I've switched to satin pillow cases, hair regrowth shampoo and conditioner, blow-drying instead of towel drying and still my hair isn't looking any better on the top. Both my parents have naturally thin hair, but my brother's hair is thick and he has a great hairline.

Is there any way to fix this/regrow the hair on the top of my head to match the length and thickness of everywhere else? Ideally I want bangs when I finally transition (on a waiting list, I love the NHS). My hair is just so short up there and I can't seem to fix it. Any advice? Thanks <3

MTF Trans with thinning hair??

I want to possibly transition at some point. However, one thing that I feel really stands in my way is the fact that I'm thinned quite a bit on top. However, I mean, there are wigs obviously. But having your own hair would be so much better.

I have heard HRT can potentially regrow hair.

Amazing progress of hair regrowth

Hello people,

I have been having quite a great progress with my hair regrowth under feminizing HRT (plus Minoxidil) for the past 1 year and 6 months.

I have technically been on feminizing HRT since August 2023 but until December 2024 I was not on any T blockers and my estrogen gel dosis was quite low, so my E levels were low and my T was mostly unsuppressed. Even in this state I could already see some hair regrowth.

Starting from January 2025 until today I have been on T blockers and good dosis of estrogen gel, which now allows me to consistently have my E above 200 pg/ml and my T below 30 ng/dL.

I added topical minoxidil 5% (1ml twice a day, applied using a dropper on my sclap) in August 2025 and I am currently switching over to oral minoxidil 1 mg (I think it's a shit dosis but my dermatologist refused to prescribe more, like 2 or 3mg, because he was afraid that I would get side effects like heart palpitations), while staying with the topical until I see my dermatologist again in October to get my prescription upped to like 2 or 3mg of oral minoxidil.

The second picture of this post was taken around April 2024, about 8 months after I first began HRT with shit E and T levels, while the third picture of this post was taken today.

I am not using finasteride or dutasteride, because my T, and especially free T, is very very low and I seem to be fine without it (i.e. I don't really have a larger than normal hair fall).

My only "complaint" is that even though my hair density is quite good (although not perfect), my regrown scalp hair is still quite thin and most of them, especially at the back, seem to fall off after they reach a certain length like 3 inches. This doesn't really allow me to style my hair in a way that allows me to grow bangs or part my hair sideways.

Has anyone had good results in regrowing hair under HRT with minoxidil, especially oral, and did your hair grew and fell through several cycles, but growing stronger and denser with each cycle? I'm dooming a lot but I keep telling myself "every time it falls off it regrows thicker and stronger", is this just a cope or is there some truth to this?

Microneedling + Minoxidil

Hi - I’m (46 MTF 13 months on E) and I’ve also had a hair transplant. Does anyone micro needle with topical Min and what level of results have you seen? Thanks in advance. Low karma as new femme Reddit account.

10 Months regrowth but feel like it stopped

Started to lose my hair around 20. Now in my late 30's. I been on monotherapy for 10 months, minoxidil 5% for 8 month and 0,5mm microneedling for 2 months. In the beginning when I first noticed regrowth it was glorious, but now can barely see any difference. Has it stopped growing or am I just impatient? I've come to realise I will eventually need to do a hair transplant but what could I realistically expect from that? I want to be able to not wear a wig or a hat for the rest of my life. Maybe get bangs instead :3

Lost a lot of hair in the shower last night!

I don't know if I should be alarmed or not. I've been on HRT (Estradiol 5mg weekly injections and daily Spiro 100mg) for over 7 months now, no complaints on the hair front, as a matter of fact it seems thicker and healthier.

However, last night I was using a herbal color shampoo and I noticed a great deal of shedding, more than normal, and it got me quite alarmed.

I typically only wash my hair once or twice a week, and I expect some shedding, but in this case it was noticeably more than I'm normally used to.

I've been through a lot of stress lately (divorce, work, etc.) and the weather is changing as well, so I don't know if that's a factor.

What I'm asking is whether I should get on some hair loss med before it's too late?

I've been avoiding them since I hate the idea of having yet another drug that I'm taking for life, but at the same time as bad as hair loss is for a man, it's 100 times worse for a woman.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Am I overreacting? Am I underreacting?

16 mo fin/min, 8 mo HRT - Feeling very hopeful

Mid-30’s human. Hair had been that level of thin for over a decade, was really worried it was long gone. Holy smokes this HRT stuff is magical.

-16 months on 1.25mg fin

-15 months on min, started 2x day topical and switched to 2.5mg oral 3 months ago

-8 months spiro/E. Titrated up to 100mg Spiro and 4mg E over the first four months.

-Intermittent and slightly inconsistent microneedling

-Ketokonazole shampoo about weekly

-All the regular supplements (biotin, collagen, iron, zinc, omega3)

-More sleep, more water

I'm so excited to see this continue to get better. I feel the sun on my scalp less. I have so much more to run my fingers through. That darned dysphoric bald spot is getting harder and harder to see. I'm so happy :)

Question about body hair

So I've been on min and dut for around 7 months now and I have gotten a little hairier all around. My body hair is also growing faster than before I've noticed. However I have yet to start hrt because of the healthcare system in my country. I have some questions like: Would it be fair to expect my body hair to thin out and grow slower once I start E? Is laser hair removal completely off the table if i keep using minoxidil? Has anyone ever gone off minox after being on HRT for a while and kept their hair?

I can live with body hair but would love to see my beard gone tbh
