after/before! 1 year finasteride+minoxidil to 2 years hrt + minoxidil

this is my insane hair regrowth journey! i also don't know how it happened. i thought all my hopes were over and i basically was going to have to do a hair transplant but. it worked out wonderfully actually. i still remember getting a lot of pain in my scalp after starting hrt, it was like the hair was trying to poke out through my skin. im obviously not the common result most people dont actually get this insane amount of regrowth but, im still insanely happy.

disclaimer: i still have more shedding around the temple area compared to the rest of my hair. Also that area grows a loooot slower than the rest of my hair. it actually barely grows compared to the rest of my hair, so my hairdresser doesn't even touch those areas since any inches cut off will take actual months to grow back. im happy they're back though, even if they take so much to grow compared to the rest of my hair. I do a little hack as you can see there and style my front parts merging with the rest of my hair, which makes them look like the same length ehe.

Alternatives to min

Hi, im 2 months back on hrt and overall the condition of my hair is pretty good. Im experiencing hair loss but really slow, i have a receeding hairline and as time goes by i believe that hrt will fix some things.
Im planning to undergo ffs in next march and the surgeons said they could lower down my hairline so i don’t necessarily have to do a hair transplant
In the meantime i tried min 5% but what I don’t like about it is that it works as long as you take it and if you stop , it stops working.
I was wondering if there are other alternatives (whether medical or natural) that would be fine
Please lmk!

Pre-HRT Topical Minoxidil

Hi all,

I am a pre-HRT transfem person. I am 31 years old and I somewhat got worried by my hair lately. I always had a high forehead and deep temples, but after finally deciding to start the process of getting HRT started noticing my hair getting weaker, especially in the center front part. I didn't notice it before because they contrasted with the side undercut, but now that I am letting everything grow it kinda see it more. So two weeks ago, I started Topical Minoxidil 5% twice a day on the temple and central front, and in the center line front to back (as the dermatologist said), however I still have most of my hair and I would say that it is still decent. I kinda got scared by the stories of shedding and that it is even worse if you stop later on. Minoxidil seems also to makes my hair worse, bot in looks and texture. So with my HRT hopefully 4-6 months away, my question is: should I stop applying Minoxidil now, before the hair gets accustomed to it? Thanks and have a great day!

Is it worth

Is it worth it starting minoxidil to round out my hairline? I feel like it’s really square and I have a big forehead. Making it come down a bit will really feminise my face. I’m 17 and 6 months on hrt. I have had 7 sessions of face laser and 1 of full body so I’m just scared of having body regrowth as I have a lot of body hair.

is this recoverable without minoxidil?

i was forced to stop taking hrt for 6 months, which caused my hair to recede at the temples significantly. (ive been back on it for around a month now though) is it possible to grow back the hair at my temples without using minoxidil? i really really do not want to have to start taking something for life.

Advice on swapping Topical min to Oral min

Hey!

I’ve been on the fence about swapping from topical to oral min. I’ve been using topical min for around 5 or so years now with varying consistency (been completely consistent as of late). I’ve had cats this entire time and they’ve had no health issues whatsoever, as I’m careful with avoiding contact with them during and after applying, as well as making sure that I’m letting it dry before bed. I’m worried that some point I may harm them with it, and I’m considering swapping to oral min to prevent this.

My main concern is unwanted body hair. I’ve always been pretty hairless: no chest/back hair, minimal facial hair, with light/fine leg and arm hair. What changes in this should I expect to see if i swap to oral? I’ve heard some people say that where you already have it will grow stronger, but you don’t develop hair where there isn’t any already.

Age 26

Current stack:

Estradiol 3mg/day for 1.5 years

Topical Minoxidil 5%/night for 4-5ish years

Oral Finasteride: .625mg every other day for 1 month

My thinning/regression isn’t heavy, I’m mainly just looking to maintain long term and have less of a “adult male” hairline.

tl;dr: how serious is body hair growth when swapping from Topical to Oral min?

Thanks! (:

Switching to oral minoxidil

I’m moving in with a cat so topical minoxidil is out. Doc wants to start me on 2.5mg. Any thoughts on that here? Will that preserve my regrowth if I stop topical? Any tips?

Not too stressed about other regrowth. Laser is working wonders on my face and I still feel inclined to shave my arms. Back might be a problem but better than the alternatives.

Finasteride shed?

Hey everyone.

I've been on HRT for one month now and I've been taking finasteride 1mg daily for two months now. My hair loss doesn't seem to stop at all and I believe it even increased since starting finasteride. Is this the dreaded finasteride shed or is there something else at play?

13 months EV, 18 months Mino, and 10 months Fina

I love my hair, now. It's hard to believe. Don't give up <3.

Building Nova [12-Month Update]: One year of HRT, orchiectomy recovery, and the science of body feminization

Hi everyone 💙

I'm Nova, and I've just updated my comprehensive MtF guide with my full 1-year progress. This marks a year on HRT (May 14, 2025 - May 14, 2026) and I wanted to share what I've learned.

What's inside:

  • Evidence-based research on HRT, breast development, hair regrowth, and feminization
  • Real medication dosages, lab results, and adjustments over time
  • Practical guides for hair removal, workouts, and body changes
  • Sexual health (including the science nobody talks about)
  • Medical discrimination data and advocacy strategies
  • My lived experiences - what worked, what didn't, what surprised me

What's NEW in the 12-month update:

  • Fat Redistribution & Weight Cycling - peer-reviewed science on how fat distribution works and how to optimize your figure
  • Updated breast development photos with 1-year measurements
  • Expanded hair regrowth section - more photos showing Norwood 5 recovery, plus deep dive into the studies that guided my protocol
  • Orchiectomy & Scrotectomy Writeup - full recovery timeline with photos, what to expect
  • Skin care & keratosis pilaris treatment - before/after photos and the routine that actually worked
  • INK! - a section on my tattoos and what they mean to me
  • Complete 1-year reflection - the mental, physical, and emotional journey

This guide started as the resource I desperately needed when my egg cracked. It's become something bigger - downloaded 100k+ times - please feel free to share this, I just want to help as many transfemme humans as I can.

It's completely free. No paywalls, no signup. Just information.

Minoxidil temporary use?

Im curious about whether minoxidil hair always regresses to the baseline after stopping in the case of transfeminine HRT. Most people would say "YES" But couldn't it be possible in theory for one's DHT levels to not be low enough to permit regrowth BUT also not cause loss? (e.g. someone who had male hormone ranges for a while and no longer does)

Obviously someone with female ranges of hormones shouldn't get much hair loss at temples. But sometimes, temples regrowth for MtF doesn't always happen. When it comes to beard growth, for example, the minoxidil *can* be stopped because the beard follicles just needed a jump start but now can have plenty of DHT to keep themselves alive (i guess it's intracrine/paracrine produced)

So maybe minoxidil can be used temporarily to bring hairs "up to speed" without them all falling out again when stopping, in the case of an MtF scalp? I'm not sure.

On one hand, if it's right that minoxified beard follicles survive post-treatment by making their own DHT, afaik there are no growth factors that scalp hair follicles in an estrogenic/low-androgenic environment could intra/paracrinely induce.

On the other hand, women less often lose temple hair for SOME reason. So if the hair is brought back through minoxidil, why would it disappear again if the hormonal environment is female?

1.5ish year progress

Have been really enjoying seeing everyone's posts in this sub and so many of them have given me hope & reassurance for what's still possible to regain that i wish id had at the start of my journey, so I wanted to add my progress aswell as I looked back at some old photos recently and feel like I've come pretty far.

Photo 1 is from egg crack pre hrt & any hairloss meds in July 2024.

Photo 2 is this evening. I've since moved homes so this is the closest I could do with lighting and that old photo is the only one I have of my hairline from then and wanted to take the most similar photo I could.

I started finasteride at age 26 August 2024 and switched to Dutasteride April 2025.

Hrt monotherapy sublingual estradiol from May 2025-December 2025 and switched to EV injections in December. Oral minoxodil and rectal progesterone from October 2025 and am now age 28. I also quit smoking January 2025.

Things were still pretty sparse up until starting oral min and switching to injections and since then regrowth has absolutely taken off. I did have a shed a few weeks after starting min but I weirdly think I lost more from the back than the top at the time. Also oral min **did** cause much of my facial hair to start regrowing thicker and quicker but laser is starting to catch back up to where I was pre-min.

Not where I want to be with regrowth and still hoping there's more to come but I know ill probably need a transplant and hairline lowering for me to be completely comfortable but I feel so so much better about myself than I did back in 2024.

Anyway :)

Progress; Pre to 2.5 yr Post HRT and Transplant

This was me at 38 ish and roughly 2.5 years after starting HRT. On Dutastaride, several rounds of prp, and post transplant, also topical minoxidil twice daily. I do wonder if some dormant follicles in the transplant process for destroyed but I decided early on that I just couldn't do wigs on the daily. I'm fairly happy but standing under bright lights or sun still hits my confidence pretty hard.

how do i deal with the UNWANTED hair growth from min?

so ive been using topical 5% specifically on my temples as that's where i lost hair and ive ended up growing MORE hair everywhere else than the place i actually used it on. my entire forehead is covered in little hairs and my eyebrows are connecting and growing downwards making a weird semi circle underneath my eyes. i didn't expect it to go this far and since i have jet black hair it's becoming noticeable and frankly unsightly.

so my question is, if i were to quit using topical min until i shed the unwanted hairs and then get on oral instead, do you reckon they would all come back?

my thinking is that a spot like the *very middle of my goddamn forehead* isn't somewhere that hair naturally grows, so it only sprouted there because liquid minoxidil touched it. and maybe oral min would only target the *usual* places my body grows hair and not try to colonize new territories. but im not sure.

thoughts?
