Baron Helmut Zemo

Anyone having fun with [[Baron Helmut Zemo]] I built him in paper for EDH and it’s lots of fun. I wanted to translate it to brawl but wasn’t sure if it would be effective in the format. Anyone have any luck with him and willing to share a list?

To Red or not to Red?

I've been messing around trying to brew a discard pile to navigate the Island-fest that is scrub Mythic, and I immediately set my sights on [[Kroxa, Titan of Death's Hunger]]. He's a big boy, and he allows for a lot of shenanigans between GY plays and discard funsies.

My only problem so far has been that Rakdos feels very underwhelming, in terms of R's contribution: you can do some cute plays with [[Deflecting Swat]] and occasionally mess with ramp via artifact removal (and looting sometimes helps fill your own GY), but they pale in comparison to what B brings to the table, between excellent tutors, unconditional removal and drain effects.

After testing each iteration of the deck I just kept thinking "Damn, I wish I was playing Blue/White instead". White in particular would be optimal since I'd have access to taxes and other funsies, but the few Mardu commanders look kinda underwhelming, far too aggro focused for this kinda deck. Is this something I just have to learn to live with, or is there an angle on R I'm genuinely missing?

Why is Standard Brawl full of tuned decks when it's unranked? I'm finding Ranked Standard easier.

I thought I had found a fun place to just mess around with Arena and I made an Iron Man deck with jank like Guidelight Synthesizer and random rares. Then...I get killed T3-4.

I thought it was a fluke, but so were the next 3 games. Everything seemed really tuned and smooth.

So...should I just stop? I want to mess around with fun stuff like deathtouch commanders but it doesn't seem there is a home for that.

Anyone else trying out Capt. Shield in brawl?

It's been doing a lot better than I thought it would in my voltron builds, and I already thought it would be a good addition. It's cheap as hell, helps get in extra damage and prevent a lot of it, and is tough for a lot of decks to actually remove. It's easily one of my favorite equipments released so far, and I was just idly wondering if other people are actually trying it out.

Is Urza still able to keep up in competitive?

I know [[Urza, Lord High Artificer]] was seen as one of the best commanders back in the day. But nowadays I don't see him much anymore and mainly see Emry be the head of mono blue artifacts. Is he a still viable commander at higher power levels or has he been left behind by the format?

How would you like your flavor of control? Mono-black? Mono-blue? Counter tribal? Discard tribal? Splash of white?

Decks that should be banned from Casual Brawl because I don't like them.

Hello.

As I write this i have just lost my 4th game in a row with my [[Iron Man, Tony Stark]] midrange Artifact deck, so i am in the correct mindset on which to judge the meta.

The following is a list of decks/cards that should be banned because I have lost to them recently and I am mad at them.

  • [[Hei Bai]]: Self explanatory, absurd brainded 5c goodstuff blink pile. If I'm going second, I'm conceding.

  • [[Raph & Mikey, Troublemakers]]: It's either counterspell it or stax it, otherwise it's basically unwinnable.

  • [[Katara]]: Draw-Go players don't deserve their internet connection. Advance your board state you COWARD.

  • Any decks that turns into the other player playing solitaire for 20 min: the timeclock should be shortened by like 1 whole ass minute.

  • Decks that are Counterspell or Discard tribal: See: Katara.

  • Anyone playing Aggro when im trying to get my infinite machine up and running: killing me is rude.

  • Decks that play first: Going second feels bad, why are you ruining my fun?

  • Decks that play second, but drop a [[Gemstone Cavern]] on turn 0: I wish I could eat your cards.

  • Whatever the fuck that [[Cosmic Spider Man]] deck is: It doesnt seem like it should be that bad what the fuck.

This list is not exhaustive, and may be updated in the future.

Thank you for your time.

Looking for land suggestions

I'm gonna be pushing more into competitive brawl and I have a good amount of rare and mythics. I know I should get the fetch lands and the triomes and i'm looking to see if there's any other lands I should just grab so I can make any deck without having to worry about the lands

Nashi needs to go…

Time for our daily gripe post! [[Nashi, Illusion Gadgeteer]] needs a ban or a nerf. Maybe errata the flash off of him? Remove the ward 2? Maybe [[Demonic Tutor]] needs the ban? I don’t know the perfect answer, but this deck is just ridiculous to play against. It is so hard to gain any tempo through the premium, recurrable interaction package in it. Sultai has all the best free spells, the best removal, the best combos, the best card draw, etc. Does Sultai really need a flash 4/4 menace, ward 2 that tutors on ETB in the command zone? He’s completely shattered and if you disagree you’re wrong.

Need help Remembering a card's name

I can't seem to find the card. I thought it was a blue enchantment card that cost 6. I know it was not a creature. It had text that said something like you can tap other enchantment for mana or to help pay for spell. It was not a waterbending, improvise, or convoke card.

It is not:
Arc Reactor, Gene Pollinator, Cryptolith Rite, or Inspiring Statuary.

Losing to Wubrg piles

I'm getting kind of tired of arena mostly because every time I play a pro game it's against four or five color good piles and despite using some very competitive decks I'm constantly paired against Noobs playing with whatever rares they own and losing to their endless top deck luck.

Is there something I'm doing wrong? or is the shuffler (I'm not going to say rigged because you have to look at both sides of the game) but it seems as though new players are often given an "fair" chance despite having a completely random un synergetic pile of rares and mythics.

Sorry for the rant but I'm looking for some advice.

Edit: I came here (yes to vent as the flair listed) but more importantly I came here to seek advice on how to do better but it seems most people just want to nitpick and criticize the way I worded things instead of actually help so I'm not sure why I even bothered if anyone is really open to helping me I'm all ears.

What were some commanders you had fun losing to recently, I’ll start:

I got rocked by a The Vision with swords deck, it was kind of cool and brand new to me. Glad to see some non wubrg hero or mole man players out there.

So exactly how many versions of Brawl are there, what's on Arena and not and which are Ranked?

I Googled, and there's no clear explanation, not even from WoTC.

So there's 100 card - Brawl. It's called Historic on Arena? I thinnkkkkkk there's Ranked?

Then there's Standard Brawl. No Ranked? 60 cards.

But since different cardpools - so different cards are downshifted? Alchemy is legal on Arena for Brawl?

I r confused. I basically only play Arena, and I wanted to play some games which didn't end turn 4-5. I like the idea of Brawl but generally overpowered commanders ruin it.

quick review of 6 non-blue decks i tried in comp brawl

last season i finished rank 155 and now in the new season i have been trying the non-blue decks of the format.

all decks are from here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ZkvDMP\_0sNv80Zox8LteuMb-iOjovF\_v2l5Q19ZY7QY/htmlview

the strong

tifa: tifa is real competetive deck and not just a gimmic commander. its fast and agressive and beats pretty much anything if your opponent stumbles even a little bit.

grist: grist is classic midrange gaming. just play threatening creatures and efficient removal to overwhelm your opponent. great against non combo blue decks

the decent

tymna+bruse: 3 color aggro that can also grind fairly well but can struggle with speed and the 3 color manabase

gut: mono red aggro. play minions hit face, not much to say other than gut turning all your creatures and artifacts in to threats really helps with finishing games

the sus

zhao: mono red but with a worse commander. u can sometimes punish greedy manabases

moleman: maybe its just me but i cant make this deck work. just feels like its missing something to be a real strong deck.

Can we just ban mana drain from competitive brawl

Why is this auto win card legal in this format while they ban anything good for Boros. Honestly so far this format has just been control heavy since blue has access to incredibly powerful counter spells, it would be nice if they could lose access to the card that creates non games

2 TMNT Commanders

Hey guys how you like my new attempt to play 2 ninja turtles?

https://moxfield.com/decks/pYgLeX78hEK1vuOK8FIF3A

I honestly like it because they synergise with each other and they are not terrible on their own.

They both are aggro cards.

The deck is slightly based on counters and a bit more on token creators to trigger the commander Leonardo if Michelangelo dies.

I cut almost every 2 and 4 drop to curve the commanders.

Interested which card I might missed. Think like 2-3 cards I don't have the wild cards just jet but:

TELL ME WHAT YOU WOULD ADD :)

SpiderMan deck

Hey everyone!

I’ve recently been hitting the latter after taking like a 7 year break from MTG as a whole and saw that they have a SpiderMan collab! I came back because of the FF collab and have been running Y’shtola (I know very creative) to get me into the swing of things again (also I just find her very fun)

Are there any Comp brawl decks with SpiderMan as the ‘commander’ that would be fun to run?

Thank you!

I won on turn 3 with 2 spells played. Does this seem like good game design?

Turn 1, land. Turn 2, play Tifa. Turn 3, fetchland brings Tifa to 4 power, play Entish Restoration fetching 3 lands, one shot my opponent. It was a 2 card combo from the command zone. With Chrome Mox I could have pulled this off turn 2. Personally, I think Tifa might be a little too fast and easy to assemble combos with. How does the "competitive" community feel about one shotting your opponent with two spells played the entire match?
