Came back for the memories

A few weeks ago I decided to redownload the game. I was one of those who gave up after they announced the game shutting down. After months of trying to find something else to play nothing seemed to scratch that itch. As soon as I got back in, I was flooded with the dopamine rush I craved from a game. Although the player base had shrunk drastically, it was good to be back. At least for a while. I told myself I would continue to look for another game while playing New World for the remainder of this year, but sadly I have real doubts we will ever see a game like this again. Has anyone found anything remotely close or is there a game that will be coming out in the near future worth checking out? Signed - a filthy casual gamer.

New World cannot be preserved like other MMO's

I'm not trying to stop anybody from attempting to but I want to explain something really quickly because I see people talk about the "legacy" project, even in game. People are saying it's like WOW or SWTOR, but New World is incredibly more complicated and for those unaware I understand why.

When WoW private servers were built, reverse engineers sniffed packets between the client and server, figured out what the server was supposed to respond with, and then wrote software to mimic those responses. The server-side logic, most combat, AI, databases etc. ran on a single executable (or a handful of them) that you could run on your own hardware.

SWGEmu benefited from leaked Sony documentation. City of Heroes was rebuilt by people who worked on the game and secretly ran servers for years before NCSoft licensed them. Even ArcheAge, which people point to as a success story, ran on conventional server software. For the most part you can just consider these traditional game servers, like one you could spin up for many source games.

New World's backend isn't a server you can run. It's a constellation of AWS managed services wired together. Per their own public documentation:

AWS Lambda handling 150 million invocations per minute for characters, guilds, sessions, achievements, queues, and contracts. Amazon Kinesis ingesting 23 million game events every single minute. API Gateway handling 200+ million calls. S3 for storage. Athena for analytics. EC2 hub instances for the world split across a grid but stateless, meaning they're disposable because all real data lives in external managed services.

None of this is a server binary. It's a distributed cloud architecture that requires AWS (or a full clone of all those services) to function. To replicate it, you wouldn't just write a game server emulator you'd have to build the equivalent of AWS Lambda, Kinesis, and API Gateway yourself, and then wire them together exactly the way Amazon did, without any of the source code.

Packet sniffing can tell you what the client sends and receives. It cannot tell you how the server computed those responses when the computation was spread across a dozen different managed cloud services, none of which you can inspect.

Unless I'm missing something preserving this game, or even getting it to load into the map from a private server and being able to interact with the game in a solo environment is next to impossible with Amazons help or some massive leak.

tldr; Amazon built New World as an AWS showcase and because of that it is practically impossible to preserve

Gaming suggestion for fellow NW refugees

Hi! Just wanted to share the game that filled that void for me, it’s Soulframe, it’s in early access via their official page and being made by the creators of Warframe. It’s an MMO lite more than a MMORPG like Warframe but the scenery, world, combat and lore makes me think of NW a lot, just in case anyone wants to try it out!

Beware Aeternum Legacy

I'm going to start this off by saying, I can't prove there is anything fishy going on here, but I ran into a possible private server that Baggins discovered and talked about in his latest New World video. Searched it up and found a post in this sub reddit. Showed a few friends and got them looking into it. One of my friends seemed pretty skeptical and did further digging. There was no proof of any of the work in the discord, just a few exported models in his announcement channel. The friend in question shared this repo with me that seems to be actively maintained and posted about it in the discord before being banned. Now that probably violated some kind of server rule, who knows. I did a bit of research myself and found that everything the guy was talking about in the discord lined up pretty close to what is in this repo, Part of me feels like it may have been ripping off work done here, but I'm not going to make that claim.

This info needs to be open to the community to make progress on private servers. I am very mistrusting of "Trust me bro"

I want this game to continue even after Amazon decides to shut it down. If the Aeturnum Legacy project turns out to be real, I’ll be glad, but right now something feels off, and I think more people should be aware of what’s going on before getting their hopes up. Hopefully this post reaches some brilliant individuals who can do something with it or contribute to it.

A decorative light I 3D printed for someone in the New World community! Thought you'd guys enjoy :)

As New World sees its final year, its fun to tackle these kinda projects! This game was super special to me. My dad passed away from Covid a few months before release, I shut off the world and dove into New World not knowing I would meet new life long friends and a fun community :) <3 God Speed

PSA: Everything in the store is now free

I guess it makes sense since the game is going away, all emotes, consumables, skins are now free on the in game store. Not sure when this change happened but haven't seen anyone mention it so I figured I would.

For anyone looking for a new world replacement

...then your out of luck cause there's nothing that could ever replace our precious game. Buuut.ive been trying a lot of things annnd. Yeah na, still nothing comes close. Buuuuut recently came out on early access is farever. It's the closest thing I've found to nws action combat. It's simple, it's fairly fun. I've even noticed some NW influence in some things in it. It's open world. Has bosses and dungeons. No pvp yet but its planned too. Look it up and give it a go.

Need PvP Help, heavy armor user

I know the game is slated to shut down next year but after taking a break and coming back to enjoy some chill OPR’s, I notice that most of these light armor players are absolutely ripping through my heavy armor.

My question is, does heavy armor even matter that much in brawls? It seems some medium armor dudes are just as tanky as me and if not, even more tanky. How can I be tankier? Or do I just have to run a full damage setup like everyone else?

New World Adjacent Recommendation: Farever

Since the announcement of New World EoL, I've seen a ton of posts trying to find something that can even a little bit replace what New World's gameplay niche offered, which surprise, nothing really has.

That finally changed a few days ago with a game called Farever. It's still not going to 100% fit the bill, as I don't think anything can. But it's certainly the closest game I've played so far.

To be perfectly clear: It's very early access, it's incredibly unstable, and has a lot of room to improve. But the potential is absolutely there.

How can I get decent PvE equipment fast (don't need high end)

Considering the game is about to be closed, I wanted to go through everything the game has to offer at least once and get most of the possible achievements (some are mathematically impossible, but I can get about 105/133).

How can I quickly get something that allows me to do mutations, hive, catacombs and a bit of PvP (mostly Outpost Rush)? I've heard the faction stuff isn't that great, which was my first thought.
Ideally an Int build since I want to farm Hyssop in the meantime to level my Territory Standing (I want to try getting at least one region to 300).

Thank you, US East

Ive been playing in US West for a while but I recently transferred over to US East and it feels great (even though I have constant 180 MS LOL), it doesn’t even feel that bad. Like if I didn’t know the game’s situation, I’d think it was fine. I got like 3~ minute OPR queues. People are still doing quests and I run into others all the time out in open world. The people on US East are also hella cool.

Thank you, US East for being awesome and allowing me to continue to play my favorite game.

Where to find this webpage of Newworld?

In the past, I've linked my steam account and an amazon account via this page. I'd like to access that page again to unlink, but I can't find it. I read that a few things have changed and that it's all AmazonID right now, but I have no access to the said Amazon account.

I tried to create an AmazonID account with the Steam account that was linked, and it just created a new AmazonID account and doesn't show anything else.

If this page is not available anymore, could anyone explain what has changed?

Anywhere to get the full soundtrack?

I'm looking to download the FULL soundtrack (including later content like Nighthaven) but can't really find it anywhere available. Anyone got some pointers?
