Best store for steaks?

We will be staying at Great Wolf Lodge the first week of June and booked a unit with a kitchen (my father in law is on a "carnivore diet" and only eats steak, eggs, and bacon, so eating at the hotel is out.)

Where is the best place nearby to pick up some quality steaks for a decent price? I checked the Niagara Costco on Instacart and, while I know the Instacart prices are inflated, it's still over double what we typically pay in BC for the same thing.

We have a rental vehicle so we can drive to a store, or between us we have various delivery service memberships (Instacart, Uber etc.) Ontario has several chain stores that we don't have in BC so we aren't familiar with their meat quality. Happy to hear any suggestions, as well as places to avoid!

Panera Bread on the Lane sucks, you guys.

Tasteless egg & cheese on a bagel with reg. coffee, $12 (taxes included). One & done, for me. Dead vibe, no warmth (the one in Amherst, NY feels like a cozy ski resort lounge). This feels like a hospital cafeteria. Cheap generic AI art on the walls , no music (no music?!), took 15 mins to deliver this plain, sad offering. I had to go up to the counter to ask for salt & pepper. Have to ask for packets of hot sauce, ketchup, salt, pepper, none is provided, and you'll need it. It is tasteless. Absolute waste of a space. Will not survive. So come get this bland, dry depressing hospital food before its gone!

BE AWARE OF THE RAMADA HOTEL ON FERRY STREET

Today at 7:07pm, I saw a horrific accident that happened in front of Ramada Hotel on 5706 Ferry street in Niagara Falls. I was walking past Dollar Tree and I saw a brown man security guard (not being prejudiced, the majority of the security guards who work there are brown), driving fast down the hill.

He was speeding down ferry street and hit a girl crossing the street.

I hear the car screech to a halt. And saw the girl fell on the ground. She looked like she had bruises on her face and was beaten up. Within seconds, the rest of security guards from the Ramada Hotel came out and surrounded the Injured girl. While the driver of the car pulled quickly into the Ramada Hotel Parking lot. A different security guard came out and he switch seats with the driver. The driver got out of the car and walked into the Ramada Hotel acting like he didn't do anything. The second security guard that switched seats with the driver, drove away. I'm not sure where he went. They switched the drivers while the group of security guards surrounded the injured girl. They took her inside of the Ramada Hotel. The manager and security guards never called police or the ambulance to make sure to check to see if the girl was okay. They covered up the incident. The Ramada hotel also sent 2 security guards to the Domino's across the street. Probably to tell them to keep quiet. I was so scared to see this happening. And I don't know what to do. There is something suspicious about that hotel. And I'm worried about that injured girl.

Obviously chain hotels would have cameras around their hotels.

So why wouldn't they report it or call the police. The driver should have been charged for careless and reckless driving. But the hotel seems to be covering it up.

I'm just letting folks know to be aware of the Ramada Hotel on Ferry Street.

Niagara Indoor Pickleball

Hey everyone,

I’m doing some local research around indoor pickleball and racquet sports demand in Niagara and wanted honest community feedback before moving further.

We’re especially curious about:

  • court availability
  • interest in indoor play
  • leagues/social play
  • and openness to newer racquet sport concepts

Takes less than a minute...

Really appreciate any feedback from players or even people curious about getting into the sport.

Thanks in advance!!

I built a free page that shows all the restaurant deals across Niagara in one place

Hey everyone, I'm a local developer in St. Catharines. I got tired of scrolling through Facebook groups trying to find what's on special at restaurants around Niagara, so I built a page that pulls all the deals together in one spot.

It covers St. Catharines, Niagara Falls, Welland, Fort Erie, NOTL, Port Colborne, Grimsby, and more. Wing nights, pizza combos, lunch specials, happy hours — about 80+ deals from restaurants across the region right now.

rallybite.com/deals

It's free, no sign-up needed, and I update it weekly. You can filter by city, cuisine type, and see what's available today vs coming up this week.

If your favourite restaurant has deals that are missing, let me know and I'll add them. Also happy to hear any feedback on what would make it more useful.

Fun summer activities to stay active and make friends

If you’re looking for something fun to do this summer that’s social & active, you need to try paddling!

It’s honestly the perfect way to spend more time outdoors, enjoy the water, meet new people, and get a good workout in without it feeling like a workout 😅

You can:
☀️ Try paddleboarding with friends
🚣 Hop in a dragon boat (yes, even as a beginner)
🛶 Learn to kayak or canoe
🏕️ Put your kids in summer camp
💪 Or even get into competitive training if that’s your thing

The vibe is super welcoming and just a really fun community to be around. There's many different programs, it's affordable and there's financial support if needed. There are special needs programs as well, with a great supportive community.

No experience needed at all, no matter your age or fitness level, most people are trying it for the first time.

Try 2 dragonboat classes for free! Stop by anytime at the Welland International Flatwater Centre to see our facility!

Message us or check out our programs (sncc.ca) if you want to come try it!

"64 years ago, on May 17, 1964, the first Tim Hortons opened in Hamilton, Ontario, under the name Tim Horton Donuts."

I miss those days (1980s). There were rotating treats behind glass, brick wall interior, large framed portrait of Tim Horton in either Sabres or Leafs jersey, the row of stools at the counter, the dresses and lil hats worn by the employees, the little silver ashtrays on all the tables, the smell of cigrarette smoke, the ceramic cups, the fresh donuts, it was coffee + donuts, before all the additions. I got hot chocolate & a honey crueller, usually as a reward for helping my Dad deliver firewood.

Family of 4 visiting Memorial Day — please poke holes in my plan

Driving in from Chicago, staying one night at the Sheraton on Old Falls Street (US side), then continuing east to Boston. We have Monday May 25 as our one full day. Family is 2 adults + 2 boys (18 and 21). All four have passports.

**Morning (US side, walking from hotel):**
- 7:45 AM leave Sheraton, walk to Ralph Wilson Welcome Center
- 8:00 AM arrive when it opens, buy Discovery Pass (Cave of the Winds + Maid of the Mist bundle)
- Do Cave of the Winds at assigned slot, then Maid of the Mist (or flip the order based on assigned Cave time)
- Back to hotel around noon for dry clothes and lunch

**Afternoon and evening (Canadian side, walking the Rainbow Bridge):**
- 1:15 PM walk to Rainbow Bridge with passports
- Walk south through Queen Victoria Park to Niagara Parks Power Station
- 2:30-5:30 PM Power Station + Tunnel (pre-purchasing tickets online)
- Dinner on the Canadian side
- Stay for the 10 PM falls fireworks
- Walk back across Rainbow Bridge by 10:30 PM

**What I'm specifically worried about:**

  1. Am I underestimating the Cave of the Winds Memorial Day line? Is 8 AM at the Welcome Center actually early enough or do we need to be there 7:30?
  2. Will the Welcome Center even sell Cave tickets at 8 AM, or do they wait until the attraction opens at 9? (Planning to confirm Sunday evening but want to know if anyone has direct experience.)
  3. Rainbow Bridge pedestrian customs at 1:30 PM on Memorial Day — am I right to budget 30-45 minutes, or is that too generous/not enough?
  4. Power Station: skipping it for the night Currents show instead — anyone done both and have a strong preference?
  5. Anything obvious we're missing or any rookie mistakes baked in?

Not trying to do everything. Cave of the Winds is the anchor, Power Station is the main Canadian-side activity, fireworks close out the night.

Thanks in advance.

Cheaper parking by Sheraton Fallsview Hotel?

At the end of June we're going to the Sheraton Fallsview Hotel. Just looked up their parking that costs 45$/night!

Is there anywhere near by that doesn't charge that much for overnight parking?

Driving… what is going on?!

So many cars enter the road when it’s not safe and put themselves into oncoming traffic.

So many people see yellow lights and take that as a sign to speed up before it goes red.

So many times cars nearly hit another and the other driver has to honk their horn.

What is going on?!

Looking for pickle ball courts in Niagara falls.

Hey everyone. My wife and I are looking to get into pickleball and were wondering if there are any good courts or groups around the area for beginners. We’d especially love to meet other couples who play regularly or are also just starting out.

Any open mics for musicians in my area?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been trying to find open mic nights near me, but I haven’t really seen anything online.

I’m a 14m musician and I’d love to perform my own songs in person. I usually sing with backing tracks, so I’m looking for any good open mics, cafés, community events, or small venues that let new artists perform.

If anyone knows places that host open mics (or how to find them if they’re not usually posted online), I’d really appreciate the help.

Anybody have Oxio Internet?

I currently have Cogeco but with cost of living continuously going up, I'm looking to cut my internet bill in half.

Anybody know anything about their quality of service, outages, speed, etc? (Or any other comparable ISP)

Any insight would be great!

Free skateboard lessons for kids this Victoria Day weekend at the Virgil Stampede 🛹

Hey Niagara! There's something really cool happening this Victoria Day weekend at the Virgil Stampede in Niagara-On-The-Lake (Virgil Sports Park, 1565 Four Mile Creek Road, Virgil, Ontario).

CJ's Skatepark is setting up at the Stampede on Victoria Dav, Monday the 18th of May 2026 between 11AM and 3PM, and running complimentary skateboard lessons for kids between ages 3 and 15. Gear included. So if your kid has ever wanted to try skateboarding, this is a zero-pressure, no-cost way to give it a shot. No experience needed, no equipment needed, just show up.

Photo by Dave Van De Laar sourced from Niagara Now CJ's Skatepark Article linked below

There are also contests with prizes running throughout the weekend, so even the kids who've been skating for a while will have something to get hyped about.

CJ's is a not-for-profit dedicated to youth development through skateboarding, and they're recognized nationally by Canada Skateboard. So, the instruction is legit and it is welcoming for all skill levels.

Beyond the skateboarding, the Stampede has plenty of other things going on:

  • Rides & Midway
  • Free Pony Rides
  • Kids' Pavilion (juggling, face painting, comedy shows)
  • Outdoor Food Court
  • Victoria Day Fireworks on Monday at ~9:30pm

Hope to see you there!
