Can I remove these links

I just purchased this Fremont 40 and it has a realy nice quick adjust that dosent need a tool or anything but I have a realy tiny wrist and there is a lot of excess band that makes the watch uncomfortable to wear so im wanting to know if I can remove some links or if I should just bite the bullet and get a new strap

Date won’t change on Time Teller Chrono.

It worked without issue last month. When I pull out the crown to change the date now, nothing happens. If I pull to the second position and rotate the arms, the date changes, but obviously this takes awhile to do. Is this a common issue? This watch is only a few months old.
