Anyone else pay a registration fee to get on the Benjamin Thomas waiting list almost 3 years ago only to never hear from them again?

Seems misleading to collect nonrefundable registration fees from people knowing they'll be too old for preschool by the time their number's called.

Physical Location Selling Educational Toys/Equipment

Does this exist? I'm mostly looking for things that demonstrate properties of physics that aren't plastic, battery operated, blinky light toddler brain-rot toys.

Specific examples:

  • Prisms
  • Gyroscopes
  • Magnets
  • Light mills
  • Microscopes

Free clothes galore for the baby(s) you adore 🫶🏻

Hi, lovely friends of Reddit. Hope you’re doing well despite this Hotter than Hades weather. Anyway, I’ve got a little mountain of baby clothes looking for a new home…turns out babies think wearing something twice means they’ve outgrown it (just kidding!).

The sizes range from 6 to 18 months, all in excellent condition. About 70% are boys’ clothes and 30% are girls’, and some still have tags because I was clearly dreaming big.

I’d really love to pass these along to someone who can use them; please send me a DM! If you can pick them up, you’ll earn about 33 bonus points and my endless thanks. ❤️

P.S. I also have a nearly new diaper bag I used maybe twice; feel free to take that too! 🫶

Stuart Hall in New Orleans?

What is going on with Stuart Hall in New Orleans? I keep hearing that the academics and climate isn't what it used to be and that a lot of families are moving to Christian Brothers. I know this is a feeder school for Jesuit. Is that still the case? Or have the scales tipped? We are looking at schools for our three boys (five and under) and just wondering if SH is worth all that money? We are looking at a few Catholic schools in the suburbs but liked the idea of an all-boys school.

Beyond the basics cooking class/knife class

Anyone know of someone teaching culinary schools to young teens that isn’t a day camp format? Particularly looking for something that could be a precursor to NOCCA culinary — knife skills, food safety, foundational but not for little kids.

Concerns about preschool center

Throwaway for obvious reasons. My toddler recently started at Early Partners and I noticed one of their teachers wearing smart glasses. I’m not sure if I’m just being an anxious first-time parent or if I have a legitimate concern. I've always seen Early Partners mentioned in a positive manner, but this made me extremely uncomfortable and I can’t stop thinking about it.

I mentioned it to my wife and she thinks it could potentially be something the teacher uses as a form of self-protection or documentation. I can understand that possibility, but I’m still feeling uneasy. Am I overreacting here or is this something I should reasonably ask the school about? I would expect more from a center where we pay as much as we do.

moving soon

Hi,

My husband recently got a job in Kenner and we will be moving to the area in September. Any advice on a safe, family friendly area to rent? My son is 4 and in an Early Childhood Special Education program at our current location in Texas. I am nervous about finding a school that will be able to transfer him to.

My sister used to live in Slidell so thats as much as I know about the area. I was hoping to live closer to my husbands job for a shorter commute, but Im confused on what school area would be good and what areas are safer and more family friendly (near parks, safe to walk, etc.) to rent in. I'm looking between Laplace, Kenner, Metarie. Any info would be much appreciated! Our max rent is $1800 if that helps.

Doula for Oschner ABC

Hello, I’m planning to give birth to my first child at Oschner with the midwives some time in December. I’m obviously hesitant to state I’ll give birth in the ABC because from reading on here and talking with others it seems that’s veryyy rare lol. But just wanted to get some feedback from other people who have gone this route before with a doula/would they recommend a doula and if so— can I get any recommendations of agencies/specific doulas in the city?
Thanks!

École Maternelle Angers, France

Bonjour,

(english)

Hello,

My husband and I are planning to move to Angers with our 4-year-old daughter, and we would like to learn more about the preschools (écoles maternelles) there.

We are currently living in northern Spain, where the public education system has evolved significantly in recent years. Classes have only around 10 children, with both a teacher and a teaching assistant. The approach is very child-centred and individualized, with a strong focus on emotional development, learning through play, hands-on activities, and movement. It is a teaching philosophy that we really appreciate and would love to continue for our daughter.

What is your opinion of the preschools in Angers? Are there any that you would particularly recommend?

We also know that there is an international school. We understand that it is quite expensive because it does not receive government funding, but we would like to know whether you think it is a good option as well.

Thank you very much for your advice!
