Hi,
we’re four guys, and we’ve put together Westminster’s restaurant scene in an app called Vota. The concept is simple: you see two places side by side (for example Famille vs. Kachina Southwestern Grill), you choose the place you’d rather go to, and the ranking updates instantly. The more people vote, the more accurate the list gets over time. There are still a few duplicates here and there, but I’m continuously cleaning up the data.

Here’s the iPhone version, with categories that actually fit Westminster’s food scene:
https://apps.apple.com/app/vota-restaurant-ratings/id6744969212

And here’s the Android version (finally live):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vota.app

P.S. I’m not from Westminster (I live in Gothenburg). I’m not collecting data, not selling anything, and the app does not use AI-generated content. I’m posting in a few different subreddits because we now support more regions, and I genuinely want honest feedback from people who actually know the area.

Elderly couple needs AC

Hey everyone. Just visited an elderly couple M81 and F78 with dementia. They live out by Thunderbird. Their air conditioning went out and they need an AC unit. Who or how can I help them? Gave them cold waters but they refused to leave the house and stay anywhere else.

Acres closed immediately at railway crossing due to panel issue

POSTED 1 PM 8/19/26: Acres Street between Jones and James Garner has been closed to motorists due to a railroad panel issue. Railroad operator BNSF has been contacted about this issue for resolve. The area will remain closed until proper repairs can be made by the railroad operator. BNSF can be contacted at 1-800-832-5452 regarding any questions or concerns. For the same safety concerns, this area has been closed to motorists by the City of Norman in January 2025 and June 2024.

A detour route will be in place to help guide the travelling public.

As updates to this situation are made available, they will be shared to this webpage.

Jimmy Austin golf course

Was going to try and play the Jimmy Austin course with my father-in-law while he's in town over Labor Day weekend, but unfortunately I'm not a member and they aren't opening it back up to the public until October.

This is my long shot post to see if some kind soul would tolerate us for a round! Lol

Parental Choice Tax Credit

Curious if any faculty/admin from local private schools have had a difficult time with OKTAP this year? We try to keep our tuition as affordable as possible, and having no income the month of August is more than stressful. Last year we received checks beginning on the 12th, I’ve been told they may not even be put in the mail until the 31st this year. I get a different answer about distribution date depending on who answers the customer service line any given day.

I know different people have different viewpoints on the tax credit as a concept, and I understand both sides. More so curious currently from a logistics perspective.

Interested in starting an OU Collegiate Practical Shooting Club?

Hey everyone! I’m looking into founding a student-led Collegiate Practical Shooting Club at OU and am gathering a headcount of interested students that may be interested. I understand we have a clay trap shooting team, but I’d like to see about starting something different and new to OU, OSU offers a practical shooting team/club that was started via students, and with tri-city gun club right down the road I think we would be able to have a pretty good team!

What it would be:
A competitive/recreational student club focused on action-shooting disciplines (USPSA, IDPA, SASP-style collegiate matches). The goal is to build a community for marksmanship, safety, and intercollegiate match competition.

Who can join:
Current full- or part-time OU students (undergrad or grad). Whether you are an experienced competitor or interested in getting into competitive shooting sports, all skill levels are welcome.

Current Stage:
We are in the initial chartering phase. OU requires at least 5 active student members and officers (President & Treasurer) to register a official Student Organization / Club Sport.

If you're interested in joining or taking on a student leadership role to help launcht this, drop a reply or send me a DM with your student email!

Driving on i35

Moved here last year, so this is my first time seeing heavy roadwork on i35. I drive up to OKC every day for work, and without fail someone driving on the unfnished lane kicks up a rock and itll hit my windshield hard. I'm always at least one lane over because I don't like driving on the unfinished stuff. Today in particular was infuriating because I was at least 150ft back from the car in the right lane and I had a huge one hit and chip my windshield.

Is that normal here?? They just leave it unfinished and let people drive on it?? I've lived in 5 states and heavily driven in 7, and the concept of leaving an unfinished surface open for driving is so foreign to me. I already have 3 visible chips in my windshield and lots of tiny dots since they started the roadwork. Just infuriating. Honestly considering taking 36th or flood up to near indian hills rd even if that adds 10-20 mins to my commute.

Indifference of State Government- Storm Cleanup

What I want to know is where are the state resources in helping clean up this mess? What are the State House and Senate reps? Vacay?

The State of Oklahoma can voluntarily send the National Guard to Texas for border duty or volunteer troops to DC to patrol the streets. Why are the Guard troops not doing anything to help us recover?

Any places close hiring urgently?

Currently unemployed, I have fast food and laundry/housekeeping experience. I don't have a drivers license yet, working on that, so I'm looking for something in Norman preferably.

I have applied to various companies online and none have gotten back to me, are there any companies hiring and will actually set up an interview?
