Four power outages lasting 12+ hours in less than a month’s time. What gives?
I moved to Norman from Edmond in mid-2023, and up until June of this year power outages have been an extremely infrequent occurrence. Since moving to Norman there’s been maybe two or three notable power outages total, and none of them lasted anywhere close to 12 hours. One time the went went out at 2 AM and was back on by 3 AM. In 2024 an EF1 tornado touched down in Norman and my power didn’t even so much as flicker.
So, has OG&E just given up? Have I just been extremely lucky thus far? Or has this past month just been filled with weather that’s extraordinarily poorly conducive to powerline health? I hate the fact that every time I see a storm forecasted in the weather (previously my favorite type of weather!) I have to dread the fact that a power outage is all but inevitable and I’m going to have to spend upwards of 24 hours sweaty and without electricity. OG&E’s outage map is the number 1 most visited website on my phone within the past 2 months. Am I to subsist purely off of fast food because apparently restocking my fridge is heralding the next storm of the century? Thanks
Restaurants Open?
Mods can you post a list of restaurants in Norman with power?
Og&e
Almost 12 hours with no electricity, no public acknowledgment or updates. How many times does this have to happen before they burry the lines? I cannot wait to move.
Power Outage
OG&E user (cause we have no choice otherwise.) Has anyone gotten any concrete power restoration timeline? On the east side, off classen between Lindsay & the neighborhood Walmart. TIA
Power is coming back
Power is back on near Norman High, I had a fun time conversing with the neighbors but time to go back into my house for good.
Debris Plan Evolving
Just in case it was lost in the noise:
🪚DEBRIS CLEANUP: The City of Norman is aware of residential concerns regarding debris cleanup. Citywide assessment must be carried out before a debris cleanup plan is formed and shared with the community. Assessment is ongoing. Specific cleanup plans will be shared to Normanok.gov as they are solidified.
Again, weekly yard waste can be found on the City Website as well. This is the pick-up option for 4ft & no larger than 2 inch in diameter limbs in bundles or in yard waste containers.
Anyone know which grocery stores if any didn’t lose power and have to pull their perishables?
I already called Target off Robinson (no answer) and the Walmarts on Classen and 12th. No answer from one and the other said they had to pull their dairy. Has anyone had any luck finding a store that didn’t lose power and have to pull their dairy?
West side Walmart parking lot
I know others have added pictures of storm damage, but I thought that this one was interesting.
Don’t use outlaw tree Service
I hired outlaw tree service to clean up after the storms a few weeks ago. He came and cleaned up what we had already cut to repair my fence. He asked for 3/4 of the quotes payment and ghosted. He has not returned and left the trunk of the large tree in the yard. He does not return messages and has not come back out. Do not trust him.
Restaurants/Businesses Open this AM post storm?
Anybody know of anything that's open for breakfast/coffee?
Fireworks Rescheduled to July 10th, City prioritizes clearing roads.
Wind Damage, 11:15pm. Happy 4th of July, Y'all!
It hit without much warning. Everyone OK?
Open for business after the storm
Does anyone happen to know whether Westwood Pool or Regal Theater will be open today? It’s going to be hot and boring at my house without power. It would be nice to go swim or go see a movie in the air conditioning.
Blacked out intersections are to be used like 4-way stops till power is restored.
If you’re out and about before power is restored to intersections, today is a good day to practice defensive driving. I’m driving around Ward 4 to check the extent of damage in our area and have watched people ignore treating blacked-out intersections as 4-way stops. A lot of street signs have been blown over as well and tree limbs are off major roads that I can tell, but in the neighborhoods visibility maybe lower for downed trees that haven’t been moved yet.
OEC Outage?
Anyone with OEC on the east side that has power again? Near 12th/Alameda/24th Area
Power out?
We have OEC and still no power at 3:29 am. Anyone else without power and still awake?
