Need Knife Sharpening + small Field Trip...

Hi neighbors,

I need a bunch of professional kitchen knives sharpened, and I'd like to take a team of about 6 polite adults with developmental disabilities to watch them be sharpened.

Any ideas of someplace that would welcome a small group?
If not - we do still need the knives sharpened, so I'd take that solo recommendation.

Thanks!!!

How much does a new roundabout cost

Genuine question because there are some horrible 4 way stops in Northampton that could really benefit from a roundabout. Amherst seems to put in new roundabouts on a weekly basis so I’m just curious what it would cost, as I assume cost is the limiting factor?

Prime candidates are the intersection of 66 and West Farms / Glendale (not a 4 way but should be for safety), Burts Pit and Florence Rd, and of course Prospect and Jackson / Woodlawn. They did the one at Look Park so it can be done! Just genuinely curious why we don’t have more especially given the safety risk.

Is Greyhound bus from Northampton reliable?

Hi, I’m going to fly out of Logan airport on Wednesday. I’ve only taken Peter Pan bus for the route to Boston, but this time none of ppb schedules works as perfectly as greyhound for my flight. I was wondering if Greyhound from Northampton would work, cuz I saw some complaints that they were late. Did anyone experience a late greyhound ride, and how long was the delay? Thanks!!

Picture Main Street Aside, WTF is up with our roads?

Northampton has some of the worst roads of any town I’ve lived in ( and I’ve lived in major cities). These roads have damaged my car, and damaged a few of my friend’s vehicles. Why are the roads so poorly taken care of?

Acceptable espresso

Hey y'all. I drive all over creation fixing solar power systems, I also love espresso. Here's a list of places I will or like to go (sometimes you have to compromise 🤷‍♂️)

Is there anything I'm missing?

Espresso must be served in a porcelain or glass vessel. It must have a texture thicker than coffee.

Bonus points if you can park a extra long sprinter van near by

Have i missed any good ones? I would love to add more to the list.

Board game nights in the area?

My partner and I just moved here and are looking for board gaming groups in the area! I saw a great post on here from a year ago but figured I’d post again in case groups have switched meeting dates/locations etc. :)

Community-Oriented Handyman (Sliding Scale Available)

Hey everyone, I just moved back to the Valley after living in Texas for a bit.

I'm posting this because I'm working on getting my handyman and painting business started back up.

To get my name out there and get some bookings on the schedule, I am offering "pay-what-you-want" handyman services, for a limited time, probably for the next month or so, or until my schedule fills up.

Obviously, you will still need to pay for materials, and I will turn down any offers that don't make sense (ie "Will you paint my house for $100 a room?"). I also don't do landscaping or gutters.

However, if you need trim or drywall fixed, have a small painting project, or have a to-do list you can't get to, give me a call and we can figure something out.

I want to help people with repairs they need but don't have the money for, or can't do themselves. And if you have the budget to pay my going rate and you want to support a local contractor who loves this town, by all means!

I especially love to help seniors, people who are disabled, and people who just need a hand.

Also, I know money is tight for a lot of folks right now, so this is my way of giving back, and providing an affordable service to the various communities here in the Valley.

I live in Easthampton, and I'm reallt happy to be back. I've only been back for a few weeks now and I am continually meeting kind and friendly people here. I'm really happy to be back here and look forward to being active in the community.

So, to summarize, I can't take every job, but if I can help you and I'm not losing money by taking the job, I will make every effort to help you.

Thanks for reading.

You can reach me via dm or call/text me at ‪(413) 282- 8637‬.

- Alex

Salon for a reasonably priced bob?

Can anyone recommend a hair stylist within Northampton or a reasonable drive from Northampton who can cut a jawline bob and generally has weekend and evening appointments available?

Hoping to find a place that has price transparency up front and/or a simple formula for how much the haircut will cost.

Ideas for Healthcare Related Volunteer Opportunities in NoHo?

I’m an RN looking to volunteer somewhere that is healthcare adjacent. Where I lived previously, I volunteered at a free clinic but that doesn’t seem to be a thing here (there’s federally qualified health clinics but it’s not the same as where I volunteered. At the free clinic, I got to room patients, take vitals, do basic labs like blood sugars, and do patient education but the federally qualified clinics have actual employees to do that).

Anybody have suggestions for opportunities in this area? Bonus if it doesn’t require frequent use of a car, because my family is currently a one car family.

The issue that I’m running into is that Cooley Dickinson appears to require two letters of reference, the Senior Center appears to need 2 non-family or friend references, etc. I don’t have anybody to give references because I’ve taken a career break.

Thank you!

NIMBYs co-opting progressive language.

I’ve been here for over 2 years now, the politics here are WILD. Like who are all these do nothing groups, who seem to oppose anything and everything in town, primarily picture Main Street, and new housing development. It’s a disgrace that this small group seems to think they speak for this whole city.

Per my title this group we have a bunch of NIMBY’s, which includes the Western mass policy center and their unhinged rants, QR, and this rich guy who lost badly for mayor (who seems to have run simply to prevent housing development)

Do we have any real progressive/leftist groups in this town. Or just NIMBYs masquerading as leftists.

EDIT; One last thing. For a supposed groups of progressives, they seem very concerned about parking. Which seems odd to me, I have never not found parking in downtown. Also I think true progressives wouldn’t be that concerned about car parking.

Parking passes for local workers

I’m a barista in downtown Northampton and am starting to get fed up with the amount of parking tickets I’ve received for being 5 minutes late to my car after my shift. Has anyone ever talked to the city about parking passes that businesses can buy for their workers?

I’m ready to start a petition if not. It’s unfair that I am bringing money to the local economy from working at a local business and also giving an absurd amount in parking tickets. And I have a feeling it may get worse with picture Main Street. A lot of the service industry workers in downtown don’t even live in Northampton because of the cost of living, so before anyone comes at me for not being particularly psyched about picture Main Street, let’s remember that people living paycheck to paycheck don’t have the time to bike to work from another town.

Anyways feeling frustrated!!

Wedding Venues in Western Massachusetts, ideally not far from the Valley

I am a Massachusetts native and my elderly parents still live in the Valley. My fiance and I live in the Midwest but we are planning on having a MA wedding (an absolute MUST for me- nothing beats the Valley!). I'm a teacher so we're looking at next June, maybe July but I would really like an outdoor ceremony and maybe even an outdoor reception, at least for part of it, so I don't want to push it too late and run into heat and humidity. I was in the valley for all of July this year and it was amazing weather but I know that is not every year!

I just sent an inquiry to Look Park (currently my top choice), but was wondering about other venues. A lot of what pops up in general searches for Western Mass weddings are out in the Bershires and they are $$$! Plus my mom has very severe arthritis and an hour plus drive to the venue is not going to be ideal for her. Ditto for my elderly aunt and uncle in Worcester who don't like driving after dark. Any venues that start at $10,000 or around there for just the venue are a no go.

Also, the venue must be kid friendly- we will have a number of people traveling from the Midwest with their children (including my flower girls and junior bridesmaids) and I want to make it easy on families.
