Does anyone know why this spot in particular is so popular with the homeless? When did this start?
Lao Hu Tong in Amherst Attacked and Review Bombed
Not sure what happened here, checked the website to see if they posted anything and noticed they are being targeted by either a group or just a single individual with multiple accounts, some racist and threatening stuff has been posted to their reviews over the past week.
Awful experience with ValleyBike
Has anyone else had a bad experience with ValleyBike? My bike ran out of battery today and stranded me in Hadley. And instead of apologizing and waiving my fee they charged me a penalty, lectured me about "stranding" the bike, and threatened to kick me off the platform.
Pedaling becomes very difficult when the battery dies as it feels as if one is pedaling uphill despite being on flat land. Since the nearest bike "hubs" were miles from me, in Amherst and Northampton, returning was not possible and I took the bike to an intersection with the street so it could be picked up for service. I photographed the bike and noted its position to support. I then took a bus home to avoid a two hour walk.
The email support team even reviewed my ride history and noted this had happened before (when they did thankfully issue a refund, albeit after initially trying to give me a coupon that would have been unusable for me) and tried to say I should have known that there would be no warning of a battery outage and that I should have picked a bike with more than 50% battery. (They ignored the screenshot I sent indicating that the bike with the dead battery had more than 50% while it was effectively disabled)
They told me I wouldn't be able to use the service in the future if I disputed the charge. For which now I'll dispute the monthly membership too - nice of them to tell me that i guess.
What’s everyone’s favorite gas station in town?
I like the King Street Pride myself.
New store? or Walmart expanding?
hey folks, I'm at walmart and see that there is construction on the old Big Lots building happening. Anyone know what's going in there? or if they are expanding Walmart to suck less? I'd love to see a big one like westfield has go in, hope thats not a hot take. I'm just tired of having to buy stuff online bc the selection is so limited here (and in hadley).
I LOVE PAN HANDLERS
If you ask me for a dollar, I LOVE YOU.
Why yes, of course I want to keep working for you and give you money. Why shouldn't I work my minimum wage job FOR YOU while you choose to sit on the street. I mean you could pick up trash, or look for work (like any of the million under the table labor jobs around here), or literally do anything to bring value to the community and society around you. But nah.
Please keep doing drugs, please keep begging, please keep leaving your lovely poop surprises.
What I love even more is all the other people like me who support this, because we're too inept to understand that it's not circumstances, or lack of opportunity, or lack of resources, but that you just choose to not lift a finger and simply want everyone else to support you.
God forbid you do anything of any actual value. Keep choosing to do you fellas.
Side note, I think we should bring more and more bears in. Balance out the natural habitat. Give the forest back to the actual animals. At least their shit fertilizes the land.
Before anyone starts saying how I don't understand about those "less fortunate", I've been homeless. For a while. Still didn't beg and constantly get wasted and call people hard R's. And it wasn't hard at all to find a side gig.
kinda silly, but is there any kind of valley/noho missed connections?
(as the title suggests) I recently had a very nice conversation with a beautiful and kind girl in Tunic (!) but we did not exchange information!! I was kicking myself after and instead of just giving up on it, figured I'd see if there's an existing apparatus of some kind for this?? Thank you!
Support Groups like NAMI
Hey All. I know this area is great for varying support groups, but it's been hard for me to get consistent and comfortable with any with my weird work schedule. Family life. Etc. Can anyone recommend something for family members of individuals coping with mental health disorders? I've been trying to just push through and be everything I need to be to everyone. But I know that's not healthy and I don't have a great support system. Any suggestions would be appreciated. TIA.
Beware of the Bear!
For anyone in the Pomeroy Terrace area, beware of the large bear passing through local yards. This was at Pomeroy and Phillips Place, heading towards the Fairgrounds area.

“New” Zen Sangha in Western Mass
The Forest Park Zen Sangha has found their new home in Holyoke, MA. We are a small, radically-open and engaged sangha, welcoming any and all, just as you are and for the benefit of all beings. We believe that Zen practice is for the relief of suffering here and now for all beings. This means that we not only engage ourselves in practice, but take our engagement off the cushion into the world, into the community.
Our new home will house our weekly sittings and dharma talks, family dharma practice, half/full day retreats, and any wedding, shower, or funeral services as needed.
Currently we gather for a Family Service (Sundays 10:30a) and a regular Sitting and Talk (Sundays 11a). We also host a “Spiritual Care for Activists” meeting once a month specifically for those involved in activism or simply feeling the weight of current events. That is on the second Sunday of each month at 1p.
Bows to All!
🙏🙏🙏
P.S. “New” because the sangha had met for several years in Springfield, but went on hiatus after Covid. We are happy to now reconvene in Holyoke!
Remote work coworker
I'm a civil engineer and I work remotely. I'm looking for other remote workers to share space with in libraries, cafes, etc. Any advice for how to connect with people in this way is appreciated!
Huge police & EMT response on campus yesterday?
Anyone know what happened? Yesterday afternoon there was a huge police and EMT presence on the dike off Lower College Lane just across from Smith’s indoor track/tennis field. Must have been at least a dozen police cars that zoomed in plus 3 ambulances which were parked up the street on the other end of the Felt building.
8 or so cops were standing in a circle on top of the dike and a couple people (not police) were a pacing around making phone calls. Reminded me of when they found a dead body in the park in my hometown as a kid, but I imagine it can’t be anything like that because there’s been no news or anything I’ve seen.
Didn’t see anything listed in Northampton PD’s public dispatch logs for the day either.
Was around 2:30pm

Drum practice space rental?
I'm a drummer stuck living in an apartment, looking for a rental space where I can keep/practice my drums. So I'm not looking for an hourly arrangement, I need a permanent spot. Any ideas on where I might find it? I'd be willing to go to Greenfield or Holyoke if I need to--anywhere within a reasonable drive, really.
