What size ARCA rail on factory Tikka T1x MTR stock?
I have a factory Tikka T1x MTR 20” .22LR and want to add an ARCA rail for bipod use.
Looking at the Area 419 ARCALOCK kits and debating between the 12” and 14” rail kits. However, I am not sure if that is too long.
Any tips?
Those of you running the 1.18" L3i barrel in your 457, what chassis you running?
I have an MDT XRS which claims 1.25" clearance, but L3i is telling me that it will likely contact the chassis right in front of the action. I'd pick a slightly thinner barrel, but I had read that these seem to like SK RM which is my ammo of choice.
They're saying it won't really affect performance, but I'm tempted to whip out a dremel to float it or just buy another chassis.
Those of you running this barrel, what chassis do you have?
Suggestions for upgrades?
This is a CZ 457 Chassis MTR. The chassis came with the barreled action and is an ACC Premier Gen1. I added the full internal weight kit and two external forend weights. It’s perfectly balanced in front of the magwell. I installed a DIP Big Juan bolt knob, magwell kit and extended mag release. I also added the Pete’s Pillars shaped firing pin, extractor & ejector kit with spring.
I am using an Accu-Tac FD5 bipod, Area 419 30 MOA rail, Vortex Precision Rings with diving board. Mounted on the diving board is a Vortex Defender XL 2 MOA and a MKM dope card.
I have two stock CZ 10 round magazines, two L3i 13 round magazines, two CZ 10 round magazines with Anarchy Outdoors extensions, and two Armstrong Enterprises 12 round magazines.
I think I will get the front of the chassis magwell milled out because it’s a bit fiddly to get my index finger (XL hands) into the chassis magwell.
I have a L3i barrel on order and a placeholder DNT The One mounted whilst my Athlon Cronus BTR Gen2 4.5-29x56 goes in for warranty service.
Besides upgrading to a top tier optic what else would you recommend?
NRL22 Base class CZ build
trying to build a base class NRL22 rifle and balance it is a challenge. Found this 5 lb ARCA rail at Freedom Shack and my AT-One CZ 16" Varmint is about perfect at 15.4 lbs total weight. I haven't shot it in a match yet but I think it has a chance.
Pondering a 10/22 build for 5’1” girlfriend, that would be good for Appleseed, but later upgradeable for NRL “precision tactical” shooting
TL/DR: I want to build a decent and cool (but ideally under $1000) 10/22 build for my girlfriend, such as would be suitable for an Appleseed course soon, but then we could down the road scope and bipod it so she can very casually feel out Precision/tactical 22LR matches.

My girlfriend had been planning to learn to shoot for years before I met her, so I’ve been taking her to the range and she absolutely loves it. I know coaching your romantic partner isn’t advised, but I’m a former Marine and was for years a certified RSO, so it’s working well for her.
She’s mainly fired my Henry Youth (she’s tiny) 22LR levergun, and various range folks have let her try their gear a bit since most of mine is in storage in another state. We’ve discussed and agreed that the plan is several more months with what we have, then if she’s still keen I’ll build her a 10/22 and I’ll pay for a weekend Appleseed training course for her.
I don’t want to go “buy stock and modify over time”, I’d rather build something reasonably cool (but not insanely pricey) from the jump. I don’t know if this is too ambitious but I kind of want to build her a decent Appleseed rifle with Tech Sights to learn irons, but also a build that we can easily later scope so she can try *casual* NRL22 shooting. I’m already planning to build a Base class 22LR bolt for myself, and it’d be nice if she could come with and casually compete, and if she gets serious later go to bolt.
Any suggestions on what receiver, barrel, chassis, stock, iron sights would be good for a versatile build to later scope? The stock will be a big issue since she’s tiny and left-handed, so I want to be sure we can figure something that fits her. She’s been pretty fascinated by the “tactical” bolt guns some folks at the range have, so something along those lines but downsized and for a semi would please her.
Thanks for any ideas!
Bags and things I'm not thinking of
Prepping for my first match next month! What bags do you all recommend, or see often, to carry rifles? Also, what other things like how to get the daggum thing to and from the match am I not thinking of that I should be? Thanks in advance!
Local match on Saturday
I am just excited for a match this Saturday. I run a Vudoo with 18” Kukri barrel & Trigger Tech Single stage diamond trigger in an MPA Matrix chassis & MINOX ZP5 5-25x56 on top. The can is an old Silencer Co Specwar 556K that is too gassy for my AR & has a new home here. It is mostly to give me forward weight to offest the heavy ass on the chassis. It sounds good too.
Tikka T1x ACE worth it?
I’m totally new to nrl22, my son and I have just been using a lightweight 10/22 with cheap sv ammo and a second focal plane vortex 6.5-20 scope, but we are having tons of fun. Of course from stalking this subreddit I’m looking hard at a Cz 457 and the tikka tx1. The tx1 ace looks like a decent deal with the chassis, 20moa rail, and arca rail it seems pretty plug and play. I’m sure I could shave a little of the cost down by piecing everything together but man it seems like a solid setup for a beginner who doesn’t know a whole lot about the sport besides shoot the small targets in order from different spots.
CZ vs Tikka vs Savage
Hi, all.
I'm looking to buy a new .22LR rifle and I keep going back and forth between the CZ457, Tikka Tx1 and the new Savage 110 RF. I want a platform I can start on a decent budget, but can allow me to grow when I need to.
For glass I am leaning towards the Vortex Venom 3-15x44 FFP EBR-7C (MRAD) Reticle
I asked ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini, and as expected each went for a different one. So I figured I'll ask the experts.
I'll appreciate opinions.
Used B14r
I found a used B14r at the LGS for $719. They also have a new one for $1029. Is it worth saving the $310 but not get any warranty? Anyone have experience with Bergara warranty?
Pro tip, if you are traveling for a match. Check the tread on your shoes for spent casings before you go through TSA. Makes for a fun day.
Ask me how I know. 🙃
Wanting to get into NRL22. Thoughts on this CZ457?
I'm novice in the world of NRL22 and know little about the discipline or MIL based shooting, but I'm looking to jump in figure it out as I go.
Came across this CZ 457 Varmint MTR and wanted to get some opinions and whether it's a good deal/setup..
Details: CZ 457 Varmint MTR, match chamber. Comes with an Area 419 ARCA rail and adapter, plus an Atlas bipod Asking is $1,100
Scope...separate: Athlon Cronus BTR Gen 2 UHD 4.5-29x56mm. Asking for an additional $1,000.
For those of you running NRL22 , how would you rate this used deal? Any red flags with setup or pricing? I'm in Socal so buying used saves me the additional burden of paying an additional 11% in sales tax.....
Appreciate any input.
Bergara B14R or CZ 457 MTR
I realize that the MTR rules most of the rimfire competitions. I like that the B14R has the 700 action, but I'm not sure that is worth the extra. The MTR stock looks beautiful, which would really give me pause to drill it out for an arca rail. Plus it doesn't really feel flat and I would truely wonder if the arca rail would sit flat.
What I'm curious about is if anyone has first hand experience with both rifles and why you preferred one over the other? I've given up on staying in the base class and really only want to compete for fun.
Looking for testers for my app
I have tried several ballistics apps and there are really good ones out there. But IMO a bit too complicated for a simple DOPE. So, I have build one really straight forward. It is still in beta and I know it is missing a lot of details. It works only for Android, I optimized it for my phone (Samsung Fold 6), it only uses metric units, except for velocity (fps), and it is all in MRAD. I can add configuration settings later. I attached a screenshot of the main page.
It is designed to provide corrections for drop and windage based on your distance, rifle, load, and weather conditions.
You can add, edit, or delete your rifles with scope height and zero distance. Same with ammo with velocity, weight, BC, etc. It automatically checks for weather, wind, wind direction and barometric pressure based on your location, or you can input location or override any parameter. It will allow you to verify the drop and permanently store it.
Anyway, In order to publish it in the Play Store, I need a "test run" with at least 12 volunteers. If anybody is interested in participating and providing feedback, please let me know by sending me a DM with your email address.
Thank you!
