Questions Questions

So, I am looking to shoot my local match next month. I have shot a local PRS match a couple of times, but I am looking for something more accessible and "cheaper" to do more frequently.

About the rifle setup -

Stock 10/22 action and bolt

Secondhand 16.5" Bull barrel I recently got off TS (seems to like Federal Auto Match)

BX Trigger pack

KRG Chassis with ARCA rail

Athlon Helos BTR g2 2-12 MIL FFP (I know at some point I might want more magnification)

0 moa rail (looking to get a 30 moa rail?)

Weight - 14lbs dry

Group in picture is (@25yds *edit) 30 rounds from a bench on a bipod, no rear bag. I know I could do better, couple "pulled" shots (just need more time and better trigger control). See pictures for the questions regarding ES & SD.

Questions -

  1. Do you think this is a "good enough" start to the hobby?

  2. Are semiautos generally shit on at matches?

  3. Ammo...I have been shooting Federal Auto Match and it likes it. But are there any other options for semi autos that I should be looking at? I tried some Wolf (made by Eley), it did not group well. I have also tried CCI Standard velocity (saw a recommendation for that online)

  4. ES & SD, how much of a swing is acceptable? Either to you personally or as an ideal? My super local match has a max range of 200. Will it be that much of an issue?

  5. Rails, will a 30moa rail be necessary at my max range of 200? I am planning to travel and shoot other matches 'possibly' at some point and since I don't know what the max will be, would it be worthwhile making that move in the beginning?

  6. Anything that I am missing? Oversights? Doing too much?

I understand that the rifle is probably above my skills and whatnot. I have no delusions about it. I want to go, learn, and have fun, but would also not like to show up being a complete and total noob. I have reached out to the Match Director about the use of Semiautos as well.

Ultimately, the plan was to get a bolt gun, but I thought it'd be fun to challenge myself and do something far different.

T1x Base Class Configuration Question

Hello all. I'm shooting my first NRL22 match next month and am really excited. I've shot centerfire gas gun matches for quite some time, but I've been loving rimfire since I started.

I have a question about base class. I have a Tikka T1x MTR 16" that I'll be shooting with an SWFA 3-15 to begin with. I have read the rules about base class and have seen what they have to say about stock modifications, but just wanted to confirm here. Is putting the vertical pistol grip and flat fore end (both made by Tikka) on the OEM stock prohibited? I'm pretty sure it would be prohibited, but wanted to be sure before I lock into an ARCA setup.
