Controller on shield

So, I'm (trying) to play this game on a Nvidia shield pro using geforce now, and the official Shield controller. Is it even possible? Or am I wasting my time?

Hey everyone.

Wanted to put together a solid overview of the app in one place since a lot of people ask about specific features and it is not always obvious where to find them. I also want to make sure people know this app runs properly on Android TV, Amazon FireOS, and Fire Stick devices, because that tends to get overlooked. More on that below.

Android TV, Amazon FireOS and Fire Stick
This is worth calling out properly because it is something UFM Pro does that most file managers simply do not. The TV version is not a phone app stretched to fit a big screen. It has been built specifically for TV environments with full D-pad navigation throughout. Every screen, every menu, every interaction is designed to be used with a remote control. No touch required, no awkward zoomed in phone UI, no broken focus states.

Install via the Downloader app using code: 1581139 for Amazon Devices, I am in the process to have it on the official Amazon Store.

If you have ever installed a file manager on your Fire Stick or Android TV box and ended up with a cramped phone layout that barely works with a remote, UFM Pro is a completely different experience.

Menus are laid out for 10 foot viewing distances, navigation flows naturally with the D-pad, and nothing requires you to dig through a UI that was never meant for a remote control.

TV specific features include dedicated pairing screens for device to device connections, separate auth flows for Google Drive and OneDrive that work without a phone style browser, Shizuku support for TV, and custom cache limit settings suited to TV hardware.

The file server also works great on TV, meaning you can run an FTP or SFTP server from your Fire Stick and pull files from it on your PC over your local network.

File browsing and navigation
The main file browser supports dual pane mode through TwinWindow, which opens two folders side by side. Useful for moving files between locations without copying and then navigating separately. Available on both phone and TV.

Storage analysis
The storage analyzer gives you a breakdown of where your space is going. It finds large files, duplicates, junk, old files, and shows folder sizes. The duplicate finder works well, just go through the safety confirmation before bulk deleting anything as it is there to flag files that could be riskier to remove.

Encrypted vault
The vault uses AES-256 encryption. Pick a folder, set it up, and from then on those files are only accessible through the vault browser inside the app. There is no credential recovery by design so keep your details somewhere safe.

Network shares and cloud storage
Local network shares over SMB, FTP, and SFTP are all supported. For cloud you can connect Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, WebDAV, and S3 compatible storage. The S3 setup lets you point the app at any S3 compatible endpoint, not just AWS. TV users get dedicated auth flows for Google Drive and OneDrive that do not require a standard browser.

Built in file server
You can run an FTP or SFTP server directly from your device, including from a Fire Stick or Android TV box. Start it from the server host screen, connect from your PC with any FTP client, and it stays running as a foreground service even when the screen is off. No cables needed.

Sync
Sync profiles let you keep two locations in sync on a schedule. Works across local storage and network locations, so keeping a folder mirrored to a NAS is straightforward. The scheduler runs it in the background without any manual input.

Media viewers
Images, video, audio, PDFs, text files, and ZIP and 7ZIP archives all open natively. There is an enhanced media player with a custom interface for video and audio. APNG animated images are supported too.

App management
Browse installed apps and install APK, XAPK, and APKS files through the built in package installer. The storage analyzer also includes debloat suggestions for identifying apps you may not need.

Shizuku support
Shizuku gives the app broader file access without full root. Works on both mobile and TV with separate setup screens for each. Once running, the app can reach parts of the filesystem that are otherwise restricted.

Remote management
Pair devices over WiFi for remote file management. ADB pairing is also supported. Once paired you get a full remote file interface over your local network. TV has its own dedicated pairing screen.

Search and indexing
Search runs off a background file index. Configure what gets indexed in settings under storage indexer. Once built, search is fast and supports filters. If results seem incomplete, check the index detail screen to see if indexing is still in progress.

Home screen widget
A bookmark widget lets you jump straight to your most used folders from the home screen. Set up your favorites in settings and they appear there automatically.

Bluetooth remote, your phone as a TV remote
This one surprises people. UFM Pro can turn your phone into a Bluetooth remote for your Android TV or Fire Stick, and it works across the entire TV, not just inside the app. Once connected, you can navigate the TV interface, control volume, and handle power from your phone. It is a proper system level remote, so you can use it in Netflix, YouTube, your TV launcher, wherever.

This is not a companion app gimmick. If you have ever lost your Fire Stick remote down the back of the couch you will immediately understand why having this built into a file manager app you already have installed is genuinely useful. Open UFM Pro on your phone, connect over Bluetooth, and you are controlling your TV.

🔗 Download: Google Play Store

If you have questions or something is not working as expected, post with as much detail as you can about your device, OS version, and what you were doing. The more context the easier it is to help.

The tip jar is in the supporter loyalty screen if you want to support development. Thanks for being here.

Thank You and Kind Regards

Returned Shield Pro after 1 day. Was it a dud?

Bought a new Shield TV Pro thinking it would be the best option for streaming Steam off my PC and also replacing my old apple TV. I returned it after having random Shield remote dropouts and freezing after trying to download apps on google play and then starting a seemingly endless loop of rebooting itself. It was fully updated. I figured it was a faulty unit that was repacked as the control came with batteries already installed but reading some threads in here makes me think these issues are just the situation with the unit now as its unsupported. I know its old tech but it still seems to have the best specs for streaming steam. Should I try and get my money back?

My Samsung TV remote suddenly stopped working with my Shield. Will the Shield remote work to replace this?

I've had my Shield since around 2019 or 2020 and gone through 2 different TVs with it. The TV remote always worked with it no issues but lately it won't control it at all.

I saw someone say just remove and reconnect the HDMI cable with it powered on and that worked before but won't work now.

I'm wondeging if I get the Shield remote will that work or is there some sort of issue with the Shield itself that I need to resolve? I don't wanna drop $65 on the remote for it to be useless.

Or if someone knows another way to get my normal Samsung TV remote to control my Shield again, that would be even better!

Gaming.

After many years in the wilderness (16 years, child born, life etc.) I want to get back in to gaming.

Loved Car/Driving games, and have an 2019 Nvidia Shield Pro and Controller.

What can I start with, if anything?

I appreciate it's old, and lots of years have passed, but just eager to see what's out there.

And once I get back into it (if at all) , I'll spend money, but just want to dip my toe with what I have.

Thank you.

Help me get started playing games please

I haven't played games since the ps2. I grew up with a Nintendo and super Nintendo and would like to get back into it with my 6 year old son. I have a shield pro and 2 shield controllers that work..the only thing I have been able to is to download a game in the form of an app from the Google play store. I see I have GeForce app but don't understand how to use it. I want to play games like call of duty or madden. Maybe the new soccer game fc26 or nba2k...if someone could point me in the right direction or try to explain what I need to do I would very much appreciate it.

Double-clicking home and closing an app does not force it.

Over and over I see posts saying Double-clicking home will let you force-close background apps. This does not force them; it only removes them from the last-used list.

you can either go to Settings - Apps - App name - and click "force close."

or install an App killer like the TDUK App killer in the play store or sideload the Background Apps & Process List and use it to kill them.

I use the Tduk app killer; it kills all background apps with one click. and it has a whitelist. I add Projectivy to the whitelist, as that is my default launcher

Navarre - a minimalist, files-first Kodi 21 skin for your movie & TV folders

I have been quietly building a personal Kodi skin and finally cleaned it up enough to share. It is called Navarre.

The idea is KISS: install it, point it at your media folder, and you are browsing in minutes, not hours. It shows your folders exactly as they sit on disk (no library scan required), puts a poster wall everywhere by default, and keeps the settings down to the ones that actually matter. Built for a remote and the couch - I run it on an NVIDIA Shield, and tested on Windows too. Kodi 21 (Omega).

It is a personal fork of Arctic: Zephyr - Reloaded (by beatmasterRS, itself based on jurialmunkey's original Arctic: Zephyr), with full attribution kept under the same CC BY-NC-SA licence. To be clear up front: it is NOT trying to be the next AZ-R. If you want the actively maintained, fully featured successor, go grab Arctic: Zephyr (martian's fork). Navarre is a deliberately stripped-down take I made for myself, shared in case anyone likes the same trade-offs.

What it does:

- Folder browsing (Files mode) - your James Bond folder, your Season folders, kept exactly as they are on disk. No library flattening.

- Poster-wall view everywhere by default - a dense, full-res grid.

- Continue watching - an optional Resume row that picks up films and shows where you left off; press Back during a movie and it stops and saves your place.

- One-press "Set up my media" - point at a root folder and the whole menu builds itself from the subfolders.

- Self-managing menu - add, rename, move, re-icon or delete items right from the menu (press Left).

- "Refresh artwork" that clears Kodi's texture cache, so posters update after you edit them.

- A simple settings page with an escape hatch to full Kodi settings, plus on-screen hints and a first-run helper.

Install (self-hosted repo, not the official Kodi repo): grab the repository zip from the Releases page, install it from zip in Kodi, then install the skin from the repository. Helper add-ons resolve automatically. Full step-by-step is in the README.

Repo / install / screenshots: https://github.com/NavarreDR/navarre-repo

It is free and non-commercial. This is the first skin I have shared, so if anything is rough or not set up the way this sub expects, tell me and I will fix it. Feedback and bug reports very welcome.

Freezing and Crashing Issue

Hey everyone,

So I just got my Nvidia shield TV box a few months ago, and it's been working great for the most part. But lately Ive been running into the issue where when I'm watching YouTube or something of the sort, it'll start looping the audio, freeze the screen, and then crash.

Has anyone seen or heard of this kind of issue happening and what would the resolution be?

I'd greatly appreciate some help on this!

Thank y'all!

Shield Juddering on Kodi while watching Remuxes from SSD

I made a post a few days ago and I am still seeking help. It doesn't matter if it's a 17gb remux or a 65gb remux, it doesn't take 5 minutes for some kind of small judder to happen. These are the things I have tried already

Downgrading my shield

Debloating my shield

Reinstalling Kodi

Setting the frame rate to 24hz on the shield and using my TV's real cinema setting

Does anyone have a fix on how I can fix this because it's driving me mad.

Gamepad controller for the shield... Tried multiple 8bitdo and got severe input lag

So I am in the process of making my gaming desktop a Windows gaming server, running sunshine. That way I can stream games anywhere in my house. So far so good, with tests, I'm getting 0 latency on my phones moonlight... Latency on the shield is like down to 1-2ms. I have bigger problem with my AVR and TV giving display lag, but that's a whole other issue.

My main issue now, is if I want to stream to the shield, I need the controller to be paired to the desktop, instead of the shield.

I used a 8bitdo ultimate & ultimate 2 wireless, and the SNES one with handles. They all pair to the shield with BT. The singles do not connect, and the controller is just left looking for a connection.... When I do BT, the input is delayed, than spams. Or even sometimes doubles, like 1 press is 2 presses, or 5 downs is like 1..2..3..4567. making the game unplayable...

So what are ppl using for controllers for the shield? Does anyone have the 8bitdo working? I'd prefer to just use the 8bitdo on BT.

The gran scheme is that my framework 13 pro laptop gets here in September, and all my gaming will mostly be streamed to the laptop or shield, or steam deck.

Nvidia Shield Pro Color Space Bug: Rec.2020 forces SDR oversaturation

Hi everyone,

I’m running an Nvidia Shield Pro with an LG C4. I’ve noticed a consistent bug regarding color space switching:

When the Shield’s global display mode is set to Rec.2020, even with "Match content color space" enabled, the Shield fails to correctly map SDR content back to Rec.709. It results in noticeable oversaturation in SDR content.

However, if I set the global mode to Rec.709 (while keeping HDR10/DV support enabled) and enable "Match content color space", the device correctly switches to Rec.2020 for HDR/DV content and stays in Rec.709 for SDR, maintaining perfect color accuracy.

Has anyone else noticed this behavior? Is this a known bug in the current firmware, or is there a way to fix the Rec.2020 mapping issue?
