We're Back Collecting Your Used Vapes. This Month, Union Square

We're back collecting more of your used vapes! NYC doesn't have a proper way to recycle these devices with their batteries, wires, residual nicotine and more. We're trying to change that. Sign up for news, info and add to your calendar HERE.

Killer Queen Opera is back in Flatbush and will blow our minds (and hearts) again, Thursday, May 21  •  7:30 PM - 10 PM

Told in three acts, this work blends memoir, performance, and recital. It follows a queer Black classical singer/composer (the wonderful Jay St. Flono) searching for the courage to fully be themself in a world that often asks people to hide.

We're in for a treat with Good Church Boys Do Not Become Artists, with very affordable tickets at $25.

FAMILY FEUD LIVE TONIGHT

Family Feud LIVE is happening at Starr Bar (Brooklyn) at 8 PM, hosted by VJAY.mp3.

We’ve had comics, musicians, and even wrestlers battle it out on stage Family Feud-style, and it always gets gloriously unhinged.

Would love to have y’all either come hang, cheer people on, or JUMP ON A FUTURE SHOW. Great excuse to meet other funny/creative weirdos 🍻

Hi r/NYCTeachers! I’m a local artist, educator, product manager and tech founder, and I’ve spent the last year teaching a series of Vibe Coding workshops at Brooklyn Spark, NYC Resistor, and Fairfield University.

I’m posting here because I’ve seen how these workshops transforms participants who have zero technical background. I recently led a program for liberal arts students who went from being "non-techy" to launching real web projects for a hackathon in just days. As one student, Maggie, put it: "The most valuable thing I got was confidence in myself with technology. It is no longer something that I fear."

I'm starting my next intensive on May 20, and I’d love to see more NYC teachers there, either to learn how to build your own custom classroom tools or to help your students move beyond "chatbots" and start actually creating software.

This is a 4-day, hands-on intensive where you will move from concept to a published website or tool using natural language and AI agents. It’s designed to be accessible, and focused on building a finished project you can actually use.

Full details and registration here:

https://portal.brooklynspark.com/events/1415694922/vibe-coding-intensive-build-and-launch-a-website-app-or-tool

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions about the curriculum or how to bring this to your students!

To mods: I saw the message that I may need approval to post something like this. Not sure how to get it, so please consider this me asking for it very nicely :) Thank you!

Okay Thursday May 14th is genuinely stacked and we need to talk about it. Smorgasburg officially arrives at Central Park today with 25+ vendors and free entry. Tonight the New York Short Film Festival kicks off its week with a party at The Skinny Bar on Orchard Street. And also tonight, a monthly comedy show called Whack Job is bringing the weirdest and most unhinged comedians in the city to Pete’s Candy Store in Williamsburg. Three very different vibes, all happening today. Here’s the full breakdown:
