Version 4.3.9 can crash on some phones when trying to play a video, its GMS (Google Mobile Services) Authorization issue. I disabled play store and restarted phone and problem disappeard).

Hi everyone! Thanks for waiting over the past week — the first release of my Android 4.1+ YouTube proxy is finally ready.

It revives old YouTube apps using Innertube. Basic features including video playback, search, channel uploads, playlists, comments, and related videos are working.

Descriptions are broken. Will fix in next release.

If you want most popular to work you need to put YouTube Data v3 API Key in settings (obtainable here: https://console.cloud.google.com ).

It works fully local so you don't need to worry about public servers or yt2009 instances.

This is an early release, so app may crash or work slow, some endpoints and playback formats are still limited.

To use it you need either rooted phone and apk patched to localhost:80 or app patched to localhost:8080 if you don't have root (harder to patch).

Video playback it’s working, related videos, comments, base channel page. Only playlists, channel videos and categorized videos left to fully revive Gdata apps. It’s working 100% local so you don’t have to worry about yt2009 instance or rate limits. When this will be usable I will release GitHub repo for it.

Hey guys, as you can see I didn't give up on the project, I just restarted it.

I wanted to fix my old styles.

New styles I made:

* September 2007

* November 2006

For anyone who missed it, yes, Now Playing is finally added (still in BETA).

Sadly, November 2006 doesn't seem to work on Windows XP, so I'll have to fix that too.

Sep2007 works super well and I'm adding Promoted Videos right now.

As you can see, the list view and grid view are fully working now.

The project will have full months, except for 2005 where a few months are missing (like April) because we don't really know how it looked back then.

Yes, I'm doing the whole 2000s YouTube.

The project might come out in December or early 2027.

Because guys, it's really not easy.

On the bright side, my birthday is coming up soon (October 8th), so happy birthday to me! I'm buying myself a Nintendo 64 because I speedrun SM64.

Anyway, I just made this post to show you guys that the project is alive.

When I used YouTube 2009 to watch videos, it gave me this error.

Why did I start developing this?

Back in April of 2026, YouTube removed one of my favorite features: clipping. A few weeks ago I've been working an extension that emulates that clipping feature.

What is the state of development right now?

So far I have a working version that allows me to create clips and share them as links. Some goals I have in mind is to create a saved clips section, a feedback/uninstall page, a settings menu, and to add a timeline zoom for selecting more precise start and end times in longer videos.

How does it work?

I added the highlighted clip button into YouTube's UI and when you click it then it brings up the Create Clip section on the top right. There you can create the clip and generate a shareable link. This link goes to my website which uses YouTube's embedded player to play the start and end times of the clip.

What are the benefits?

The main benefit to mine is that anyone can view any clip at any time. There are similar extensions, but I had problems with each of them: their button clashes with YouTube's page, their clipping functionality is clunky, and most importantly is that they don't save/share well.

Why did I make the post now?

I want feedback from users who would be interested in using this chrome extension. What features would you want to see in a fully shipped version? Is there a better way to create a clip? Is the design of having the clip send you to a different site too intrusive and if so, is there a way you'd rather have it implemented?

It also has the old player. The "bad" part: Samples doesn't work. It gives a 404 error.
