Greek Olive Oil - any good?

Found in local store. Not cheap.
Wanted to ask if Greek EVOO is any good?

Can I make my own olive oil using an at home cold press?

So am from an olive oil culture/country.

I'm broadly aware of the oil making processes as a lay person from an olive oil culture.

I have a cold press I use at home to make for example Peanut oil and black seed oil (for supplemention) at home.

I've been thinking. Surely I can make some at home olive oil from pitted olives at home. I know it would be quite inefficient but I'm thinking of making enough oil for breakfast dipping and eating the spent flesh from a small bowel! So the inefficiency (other than cost, I guess) would be negligible.

What's your experiences? And most importantly, what kind of olives should I use as an imput.

New to evoo, any review and suggestions from these bottles?

It is from the supermarket in CBD, so they are pricier. Will take pics in the local store soon.

Why is Atlas Organic so popular on Amazon?

I still can't figure out which olive oil I should buy. I'm not great at tasting olive oil, and I can't realistically buy 5 bottles at once just to do a blind taste test.

Right now I'm considering:

  1. Cobram Estate Classic 100% California Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  2. Atlas Organic Cold-Pressed Moroccan Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  3. Carapelli Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil (Cold-Pressed)
  4. Frantoia Extra Virgin Olive Oil (Cold-Pressed)
  5. Partanna Robust Extra Virgin Olive Oil (First Cold Pressed)

Most of the other oils have similar sales on Amazon (around 500–1000 purchases per month), but Atlas stands out with about 30000 stars and about 9000 purchases per month.

Is Atlas actually the best olive oil, or is there something else driving its popularity?

Beware of fake EVOO - Grigoris LEFAS brand

Beware of this fake crap. The container is labeled as Greek Extra Virgin Olive Oil with a nice story about the long standing traditions, region, and olive variety...all bullshit.

There's a recently filed class action lawsuit filed against this company because lab testing shows their "extra virgin olive oil" is actually canola oil:

Honest toil review?

I’m very new to good quality EVO (previously always bought the cheap stuff). I’m specifically wanting a fresh, high polyphenol EVO that obviously tastes good too. I recently bought a tin of Odysea Greek olive oil which was miles better than the cheap 1L plastic bottle I used to buy in Aldi lol. But although it’s nice, I’m looking to up my game and I would especially like more of the health benefits from EVO.

Has anyone here tried Honest toil olive oil? What’s your opinions on it? Is it worth it? The 3L box actually works out pretty decent value, but of course I would buy a small bottle first to try it. I’m looking for an EVO to cook with as well as using for dips/drizzling.

I was also looking at the Citizens of soil subscription, but in terms of value for money I think Honest toil is better value. Thoughts?

Has anyone tried this Lidl olive oil and is it any good?

It has a fresh harvest date and max 0,8 acidity and it's about 7,30 EUR for 0,5 L.

Are any of these EVOOs good?

I plan on getting a healthy EVOO for dipping my homemade sourdough in and maybe some light cooking. I'm probably going to eventually order stuff online but want to grab something today at the market.

A Dutch TV show testing wares considered all EVOO in Dutch supermarkets 'subpar'. As such I want to go to Italian or Arabic stores to get some. What are widely available EVOOs that don't suck from these countries?

I think Greece is also pretty good but there's not many Greek stores around sadly.

Olive oil and how long it keeps exposed to air

Hi. In the restaurant where I work, they serve guests a very good olive oil with toast while they wait for their food. Quite often the little bowl with oil comes back untouched. I feel bad about having to throw it away. How long will the oil retain any good properties after its been exposed to air for an hour? Does it make any sense for me to put in a glass container to use later? Thanks

Am I being too picky ?

the single origin Kirkland brand barely burns my throat . The Oro del Desierto makes my nose hurt from the sensation . I know the polyphenol count of the Oro del Desierto but I am thinking of retuning the Kirkland brand - bad EVOO negates the benefits of the good stuff. Any thoughts on polyphenol /oleocamphenol seekers ?

Should EVOO be stored in the fridge until opened?

Simple question really. I can understand why storing it in the fridge whilst in use could be bad because of the up n down temperature cycling, but what about if say you've bought 2 bottles and won't be even opening the 2nd one for a while?

Is it a good idea to store that one in the fridge until opened for the first time to preserve the polyphenols for longer? Or will being at 4-6C actually damage the olive oil?

How much does origin matter?

Newly into olive oil (as in actually paying attention to what I'm buying) so doing some learning here.
How much does country of origin matter? Or do you think specific company/product matters more?
