Selling my Orange Rocker 32 with Celestion Creambacks. Chicagoland area.

I am selling my Orange Rocker 32.

I bought it for a gig that I needed to play,

but just about a month later Vox released their new hand-wired AC30.

Now I use the Vox exclusively.

I'm a sucker for Celestion Alnico Blues.

Before putting this up for sale, I brought it to my local trusted music shop to have them inspect it thoroughly.

Everything is perfectly fine. The only thing they did was replace the tubes. I haven't used it since, so those tubes are brand new.

I swapped out the speakers in the Orange Rocker 32 with Celestion Creambacks, which sound 10 times better than the stock speakers.

I still have both sets of speakers, so depending on what you want to spend, you can choose which speakers you want.

Or we can make a deal where you just take both sets.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with this amp, it is the gold standard of tube amps made for pedals.

The left speaker and the right speaker are their own channels, so you get the option of mono, stereo (great for effects like Ping Pong delay), Or you can make it so that the left speaker is your dry signal and the right speaker is your wet signal ( in which case, if you are using delay or reverb you'll hear the guitar tone out of the left speaker and then you'll only hear the wet delay or reverb out of the right speaker, which creates a beautiful atmospheric space)

I suppose I might be open to part cash part trade, but I really can't think of anything that I need musically at the moment

Maybe an electric guitar if it's something that I'm interested in...

Obscure instruments are also something I might be interested in.

Let's hear some offers.

Anyone tried pushing the EL34s tubes on the Rockerverb 50 MKIII using High Volume + Low Gain + high Attenuator? (Looking for clips/feedback please)

I want to buy a RV 50 MKIII and I love classic crunchy 70s saturated tubes sound like Marshall. But of course orange sound!! So I’m diving deeper into the built-in attenuator on the Orange Rockerverb 50 MKIII and could use some input or audio/video clips from fellow owners.
Since the attenuator circuit sits after the master volume/output stage, in theory, you can crank the channel Volume high to force those EL34 power tubes to naturally saturate and compress—while keeping the Gain knob low and using the Attenuator to keep the overall output at home or studio levels. And use the distortion of the power amp calves and not the preamp/gain output
If you own or use this amp, I’d love to hear your thoughts on this approach. Thanks

Rockerverb 50 mkiii thoughts?

Hey everyone. I am the happy owner of a TH30. I love the cleans, but the gain channel is just OK. I may have an opportunity to trade the TH30 and a bass cabinet plus cash for a Rockerverb 50 mkiii. Does anyone own one of these? Are they as good as everyone says? I should have the opportunity to try one at guitar center, but it will be a long drive.

I play everything from clean tones with reverb to punk to stoner doom and even venture into thrash and Swedish death territory depending on my level of intoxication.

Again, the TH30 cleans are super dreamy and the amp is a great pedal platform on the clean channel, but the gain is a bit scooped and fizzy. What are your experiences with the rockerverb? I have an orange 2x12 open back cab and a vintage Marshall 4x10. Thanks!

Rockerverb MKIII 50 vs 100!?

I have a great deal on a brand-new 50W model, but I can also get a great deal on the 100W model. The 100W is 10 lbs heavier, so the transformers must be bigger! Does that mean better sound? A quieter clean channel? More headroom?
But how good is it for practicing at home? I’m not in a band, so I’ll probably be playing it at home for a long time. Is it worth going for the 100W?
I know this amp has a lot of power reduction options, so I’m sure it can work well at lower volumes. But having such a powerful amp running at reduced power every day and always connected to an attenuator doesn’t seem like the best idea to me. And if I’m only using half of the power, I don’t think it makes much sense.

Orange rockerverb 50 MKIII vs Marshall origin 50

I tested a Marshall Origin 50 from my local guitar shop the other day at home with my PPC412, and I really loved how it sounded. It has that classic ’70s/’80s crunchy Marshall sound, with great low end and plenty of headroom. However, even with the power selector on its lowest setting (5W), I had to crank the volume up to around 3/4 before I started getting some of that classic Marshall crunch, which is way too loud for room practice. So, to me, it’s more of a pedal platform.
On the other hand, I’m seriously considering the Rockerverb 50 MKIII. I’ve watched tons of videos comparing it with other brands and amps, and it really seems like an impressive amp. It’s definitely a lot more expensive, though, which is why I’m still thinking it over.
Whatever I decide, I’ll probably get an attenuator so I can push the power tubes into saturation while keeping the volume at a reasonable level for playing at home.
For you Rockerverb MKIII owners: have any of you tested the Marshall Origin amps? I’d love to hear your perspective, especially if you’ve compared the two.
Thanks!

The Curse of Loving the Orange Rocker

I love the Orange Rocker amp series. It's warm, full bodied and punchy as hell when boosted. I love both the classic head with the EL34s (Rocker 30) and the combo Rocker 32 with EL84s. Ive had both at different times.

Pros of each: The EL34 Rocker 30 is loud rawkus classic and more in your face on the drive channel. The Rocker 32 EL84 has an improved clean, a very full saturation texture on the drive channel and the stereo effects loops is really cool for a wet/dry set up. Attenuator built into the Rocker 32 is nice too.

Cons of each: The Rocker 30 cleans are weaker and it doesn't have an effects loop. The Rocker 32 feels smaller due to the EL84s and is very annoying to use with a cabinet due to its bizarre speaker out put set up (2 x 16 ohm outs only, no 4 or 8 ohm outputs). Also why they went for 210 speaker configuration over 212 is a wild choice to me. The amp has great low end when connected to a cab but the 210s sound fizzy and thin.

However, it is incredibly frustrating that you have to take tradeoffs with each of them when they're supposed to ostensibly be the same circuit. I really like the Rocker 32 options and versatility but I hate being tethered to a chunky combo with speakers I don't love and with the Rocker 30 you can only run reverb or delay in front which sounds considerably worse that the great sounds stereo effects loop of the Rocker 32.

Worst of all, even if I were to sell the Rocker 32 and shell out to get the flagship Rockerverb, it's a pretty different circuit and doesn't sounds like the Rocker. I like the Rockerverb, but I like the Rocker better and I think it's kind of overpriced for a pretty simple amp.compared to other flagship offerings like the Mark V and JVM at similar prices. Even having a third channel with concentric pots like the EVH 5150 III 50w would open up the amps options a lot.

I would love if they made a Rocker 32 style head without the stupid 2 x 16 speaker output requirement and even better if they could do it with EL34s instead of EL84s while still retaining the improved clean channel. Why they didn't already think of doing something like that is beyond me though.

The frustration isn't limited to the Rocker series though either, the Terror series is annoying that the Dual terror (my favorite) doesn't have a loop either but the Dark terror does. Especially since an EQ in the loop really opens up most Orange amps tonally.

Anyway, this is all just wishful thinking at this point and it seems like they're going all in on their SS and small amp line going forward so I doubt we'll ever get any of these. It seems like Orange is kind of shooting themselves in the foot with these odd product line choices.

Anyone else love the Rockers but find them frustrating?

Orange Matamp OR100 full schematic and transformer measurements

Hi everyone! I'm been working on recreating an Orange Matamp OR100 (the later versions with a solid-state rectifier) based on whatever information I can find online. The only schematics I have for the OR100 are completely missing the transformers, power amp, and output sections, so I've been trying to piece things together from the schematics and other information available for the GRO100, ORS100, and the '72, '73, and '74 variants of the OR120 (including auction listings, forum and blog posts, YouTube videos, etc.)

It would be extremely helpful if anyone could share any full schematics, specs, and measurements for the OR100's three transformers (mains, output, and choke).

Thanks so much!

Orange Crush 30R speaker replacement alternatives

Hello everyone, it's my first time posting here :)

Yesterday I blew up my Orange Crush 30R (from 2007) combo amp's speaker at a gig with my band.

I've investigated and realized the coil from the speaker itself probably burned as I measure an open loop with the multimeter.

This way I started searching for alternatives to replace the speaker but I don't have that much knowledge in this kind of stuff so I need recommendations !

I saw on the internet people mentioning 8 Ohms speakers as an alternative but mine is 4 Ohms. I was wondering if the 8ohms would have a big impact on the result or not.

However, 4 Ohms speakers (10") don't seem to be very common, so what models would you recommend to replace my blown up speaker in this amp ?

Thank you in advance for your responses. I have faith in the reddit community 🎸 Peace

Gray cat? Orange cat?

Floyd likes to set on top of my amps, and I figured this sub would appreciate this pic. He is there with my Rockerverb, Rocker 15 Terror and my Supercrush. I love my Rockerverb and have had a blast recording tons of songs and ideas.

Current Recording Setup

I got the OR100 in a trade recently (traded my 90s Reissue Mesa Triple Rec and got some cash on top), and I love it so far. It’s everything I wanted from an Orange, vintage flavor but with enough gain if I want that more modern tone too. I love the gain character much more than the Rockerverbs I’ve heard. I also now realize how much I dislike the Mesa Rectifier sound I was nostalgically chasing (two channel dual rec was my first and main amp in the 90’s - the 00’s, sold it in 2010).

I recorded with the OR100 today for the first time for a cover song I’m working on, OR100 rhythm track panned far right, SCIENCE Totality rhythm track panned far left. The amps complement one another so well, and the tones are massive.

I’ve done a lot of amp buying/selling/trading over the last few years, but these two are lifers.

I have two more amps (SCIENCE Earthling MKII and Dean Costello Heavy Metal Warfare) on order that I know will be lifers as well, and hopefully my amp search will end…for a while at least 🤣😬.

Orange super crush 100

When I turn off my SC100 head it makes a click noise into my cab, no matter what volume or master knob is sat, it’s always making same click sound. Everything else about amp is good, only this trouble makes me worry, can it be harmful for my cab?

Super Crush 100 vs Dual baby vs Gain baby?

As the the title suggests i'm looking at the these heads and honestly can't decide they all sound good. I'm planning on pairing the head with a 2x12 cab with v30 speakers.

Currently the i'm running Ts808 --> Rat --> Russian Big Muff for dirt pedals. I'm curious to hear peoples thoughts/experiences and which head would pair with the muff the best, as it's where most of the dirt on my signal chain comes from.

Is my gear enough for gigging? (Orange Crush 35RT & Terror Stamp into PPC108)

Hi everyone,

I recently joined a new band (drums, bass, two guitars) playing Southern / Hard Rock. Everything works great in rehearsal, but I’m wondering if my current setup will hold up for live gigs.

Here’s what I’m currently running:

  • Orange Crush 35RT
  • Orange Terror Stamp plugged into a PPC108 cab

We’ll mostly be playing small stages (with a PA system / mic’d up) and local pubs/bars.

Do you think this rig is enough to cut through the mix live, or is it time for an upgrade? I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences!

Thanks!

Nico
