Update on my scratch built Landa
Now with even more bitz

Now with even more bitz
One of my first ever builds, that has been sitting in my pile of shame for a while, until i gained the confidence to go back and fix some of my rookie errors. There's still some bits I'm not 100% happy with (namely the weapons are all cartoonishly too big) but overall I think it turned out ok.
The concept was to make a battlewagon the Ghaz could (theoretically) fit inside, hence the chonky doors and big cab section.
The main weapon is magnetised, with all the options available (but only the kannon finished and ready, more rookie errors to fix on the kill-kannon and zzap-gun.) Life hack for people building on a tight budget - toys with speakers can be ripped apart and the speaker has a fairly strong magnet buried inside. The other weapons will be glued eventually but are separate for now for ease of painting.
Based on the Epicast Kanz drop pod.
Made from a can, the top of a bottle, a bottle lid, a wooden disc, thin packaging card, Graphix medium chipboard, a wooden disc, EVA foam, a cog, a hemispherical bead, sharp and fine sand.
2nd Edition grot for scale.
Mek Arm, Nob head, Lootas Body, Half a Kommando Slugga and a piece of the shield from the Meganob box.
E’es decided e wanna makes a landing fing….from da rock to da oomie planet…
Wazbom Blastajet from spare bits left from dakka jet. Modelling completed almost 1 year to the day, painted nov/Dec.
Made purely from dakkajet bitz and plasticard. Used boiling water to bend hull into shape, traced over wing segments. A-10 engines made by cutting the tip of the big bombs and inverting. The nose cone is wonky, putting that down shoddy ork construction and mek gubbins helping it to fly. Created the cockpit from scratch only to realise the kit already had a spare cockpit.
Have plenty of spare rokkits and teleporta bitz. Great kit
🔥⚔️ GRIMSPOIL HAS ARRIVED. ⚔️🔥
The first GrimSpoil Tribes release is LIVE
Welcome to a world of bad attitudes, bigger weapons, overflowing ale, questionable cooking, and absolutely ZERO table manners. 🍺🐷💀
Breaka boyz mob from old boyz and nobz. WIP, not happy with the hammers, want to add more smaller armour plates, boss pole for the nob and raid the bitz box for other deco. If I was lazy though I could call it a day and paint these up.
Old boyz and AOBR nob, some have extended waist. Plasticard use liberally. Rokkit from blitz/burna bomba. Hammers from chain choppas and sprue.
Just wanted to share a work in progress on my rendition of 'Orkimedes'. The sculpt is currently in the rough bulk detail stage at the moment, with refinements yet to come. I wanted to share because I think the concept for the model is pretty sweet. Based on the lore, we have few confirmed images of Orkimedes, the famously elusive personal mek of Ghazghkull 'emself, which has left the sculpt wide open for interpretation as for what this mek looks like. The design myself and my client have settled on is strange by ork standards, but I feel thats just the place to be. We want a mek thats notably less mechanical in terms of bionics and cybernetics, because they are old, industrious and more of a thinker and inventor who puts their resources to planning and creating tech on behalf of others rather than pursuing personal modification.
The posing intends to evoke a plato-esque body type, with a statuesque form. I've taken some inspiration a few famous statues to start building out this look, going for something somewhere between Myron's Discobolus and Auguste Rodin's The Thinker, as well as paintings of Plato and Archimedes. This is an ork who doesn't act or think like other orks, so having that juxtaposition of common ork scrappiness held against a body in peak condition but with ork proportions. as well as elaborate robes with understated armour and gubbins I think will strike that balance of uncanniness just right. He will have an apparatus mounted onto his back which comprises the more mechanical elements of the piece, along with his weapons, but we wanted that too to be odd looking by ork standards, not just with mechanical intricacy but being something that looks for lack of better words mathematical and way too precise, owing to the Orkimedes original inspiration, Archimedes of Syracuse. And of course he will need a teleporta, because he's the ork who designed that tech.
There's many things left to do, but I should have the completed piece ready in about 2 weeks from now. I will post an update once the model is complete :)
For context, I'm new to reddit so hello everyone! I am an New Zealand based sole artist commission studio specialising in hand sculpted miniatures and conversion pieces for tabletop wargames and RPGs, specialising in grimdark and horror aesthetics. I have 18 years experience creating and sculpting miniatures, and I started GrimDark Miniatures because sculpting is what I love to do. As per the rules of the subreddit, I'm not here to relentlessly promote, just to introduce myself to the page and share in the community of miniature creation. All that said, if anyone would like to check out more of my work; I do have a website which you can visit here: https://grimdarkminiatures.co.nz/gallery
Glad to join the community here, and I look forward to seeing more great minis from the talented people of r/minis.
Cheers, B
He is a little tall, probably should have removed the thighs, what do you think?
My big men dakkarig that I made for my Revolushun, only 10 more boyz to go and my army will be ready to paint!
Let me know how I did! Does this read like a dakkarig?
I'm looking at picking up the Wartrike kit for kitbashing bitz purposes and have questions:
- Is the Speedboss roughly Warboss size?
- Are the Speedboss and driver posed in a way that would let them stand on a base to proxy as a Warboss and a boy?
So my 1000 point revolution is almost fully built, all i need now is another unit of runt boyz and (the topic of this post) the beastboss on squigosaur.
There is only one problem, it has been out of stock both online and in stores for months, so i cant buy a bbs and just grot-ify it....
And then i found the breaka boss on mirebrute troggoth. The y use the same 80mm base and they are about the same size and since the bbs in my list is my warlord, the kruleboy could just be a tall grot so all i'd really have to do is 40k it a little.
If there is anything i should add to grot-ify or 40k it that you think is a good idea, lmk.
After hearing about the WH40K squig catapult, I found three variations of it. One is definitely Epic, another probably is but I only found a single image of it, and the third is Rogue Trader era and made of metal. An unboxing vide allowed me to get the sizes about right.
This is made from Graphix medium chipboard, used for the main body as I needed the strength, thick packaging card, thin packaging card, square and round wooden dowel, packaging tape, two sizes of hemispherical beads, a cog, cocktail stick, string and a thimble.
The white squig is a placeholder made from plasticine; the red one is one made from foil, cocktail sticks and Das clay. And looks like it came from Angry Birds.
2nd Edition grot for scale.
Am i cooking??
Hello gang! I know it's not technically a kitbash, but i made a scratchbuild of a grot heavy bomber and i wanted to share it. I don't intend to play with it, as it is not even a real unit but i had this idea to make one from scrap and wanted to share! It's one of my first builds so it's nothing like we see the pros do in videos but i'm proud of it. Here are some pics! The poor grots (handmade from FIMO clay) were apparently told to board the plane butt naked to save weight (poor grots)
Let me know what y'all think!
