I made a mock poster with the 2017 theme, one of my favourite Osheaga posters (and lineups)!

TL;DR

Made a vinyl mockup to capture the Clipse set at Osheaga, including the time Pusha T waved at me & my partner, and Malice replying to her DM.

After waiting for a year, Clipse finally performed in Canada! It was one of the best experiences and I wanted to make something out of it.

Long story warning: my fiance and I are huge fans of LGSEO since it released, and we (like other fellow Canadians) were disappointed that they never visited Canada during their tour. As time passed, they toured in Europe with sporadic appearances in the US but Canada, again, was left out. Despite this, we watched and cherished as much of the live performances that we could see online – singing along and practicing all their dance moves.

My partner was so desperate to see them that she was willing to travel to NYC for their New Years show which I shut down for logistical reasons. To make her desperation even more clear: she has also DM’d Malice on his Instagram begging them to come to Canada on more than one occasion lol

Then there it was. Glancing through the Osheaga lineup announcement, I saw the name “Clipse”, did a double-take and grabbed tickets immediately. Fast-forward to the week of the festival, we wanted to make the most of this set and show our support, so we bought $2 white gardening gloves from Dollarama to wear during Ace Trumpets.

Because it was a main stage, I feared we would have to stay further away since we don’t do well in tight crowds but as we entered the festival, we saw ample space and got as close as we comfortably could from the stage.

Despite the initial fears of thunder and lightning, the vibes were perfect – honestly, at some points, I’m convinced the downpour that occurred during the set was a paid actor with how it matched the atmosphere. The energy where we stood was great: people were participating, singing, and enthusiastic. You could really feel the intensity radiating off of Pusha T and Malice (also shoutout to Yoo Q! for being so hype). Since I was familiar with how their set goes – memorizing lines and how they interact – it was surreal to hear and feel it in person. It was really a culmination of all my anticipation.

At this point, I’m gonna relay the sequence of events as I remember it. My brain refuses to accept it and thinks of it as delulu (even with video evidence), but my fiance swears that what happened was true and done with intent.

Ace Trumpets came on, and we wore our white gloves and put our hands up as high as we could when the line came. I was so busy going bar-for-bar that it was my partner who pointed out that Pusha T was heading towards our side of the stage and was looking at us. As he walked closer to our side, Pusha T pierced me with his eyes, and I locked in on his, going bar-for-bar until the end of his verse. When the chorus came, he smiled and did two salutes (assuming towards me and my partner) then put his hand up and held it for a while. We were freaking out and frantically wondering if that was to us, so we put our hands up and waved. Immediately, he waved back and continued with the set. We were shocked at what happened and continue to be in shock. The $2 gloves became invaluable (or maybe over half-a-mil’).

To cap off an incredible evening, at the end of the show, my fiance DM’d Malice once again to thank them for finally coming to Canada and, seconds later, he replied to thank us for having them (this can be seen on the booklet mockup).

This mock vinyl is a celebration of what happened: the gloves, Pusha T waving, Malice’s reply, and the setlist that TinaniF1 shared on Twitter (which Pusha retweeted). I also included snippets of articles talking about the set and photos from various sources (Tim Snow, Evan Buhler, footagebyfamefilms , zaneburkomedia , kamaramorozukphoto) to fully commemorate the fantastic show.

Finally, I would like to issue an apology to those who were around me during the Clipse set. I admit I was too overenthusiastic and realize that you probably didn’t come to see Clipse just to hear an obnoxious screaming of the verses.

This is just a fun mock-up I made of potential artists that may perform. Let me know what changes I should make/what artists you would like to see!

Probably unrealistic and expensive af lol. But they should go all out for next year, since it’s the 20th anniversary. I’ll be happy if we have Radiohead, LDR, The War on Drugs, Spoon, CAS, Angus & Julia Stone, Djo, and Hamilton Leithauser, at least.

•Radiohead are long overdue for Osheaga. They haven’t been in MTL since 2016, 10 years ago - 11 years next year, and with their recent activities after a long hiatus, and that the co-owner is a huge fan of Radiohead, it makes perfect sense to have them back.
•Lana Del Rey - a part of me feels like she backed out for a reason this year, what if Radiohead is the reason? She seems to follow Thom Yorke everywhere. The Smile was at FEQ years back, and Lana happened to be on the same day, not to mention she was also at 2016’s Osheaga, the same year as Radiohead.
•The War on Drugs makes the most sense, especially after Mt. Joy, The xx, The Neighbourhood.
•Spoon. For personal reasons, I NEED to see them live. Osheaga would be perfect, I can see them having the same slot as Franz Ferdinand/Turnstile’s.
•Cigarettes After Sex, same reason as the War on Drugs.
•Djo, after co-headlining with Tame Impala over the summer and their rising popularity similar to that of Geese, I can see them being in Osheaga next year.
•Angus & Julia Stone, after Mt. Joy, Billie Marten, I couldn’t help but think of Angus & Julia Stone would be great to have.
•Hamilton Leithauser is an incredibly underrated singer, I feel like his style of music is perfect for Osheaga. I saw them open for The Strokes back in June and they sound great live.

Lets dream, this would be my perfect lineup!

I just got watching this video of them playing Elephant and I cannot believe the production quality. Like to think this was the subheadliner???? I cannot think of a second to last of the night MainStage artist that brought this to Osh since. I’m a giant Tame fan, so a little biased, but genuinely don’t think this is one of those cases of rose tinted glasses. Kevin had already headlined Coachella at this point, so like.. we basically got two headliners that night. It was my first osh ever, and this video reminded me why it was so special 🥲

I go to a lot of festivals and concerts, and for years I've wanted a way to actually keep track of them: which shows I went to, what I thought of the set, which bands I've seen live. Letterboxd does this perfectly for movies. Nothing did it for concerts. So I built Gigbook. You log shows, rate and review them.
