Evolving from "Unknown's Shadow" to "Woodbound"!

Hey everyone,

I'm sharing a major update on my psychological horror adventure game. While the project was originally inspired by Over the Garden Wall, I’ve decided to pivot and expand it into an entirely original universe and story.

To reflect this creative shift, the game is officially changing its name from Unknown’s Shadow to Woodbound.

Woodbound focuses on surviving a dark, mysterious forest where players must navigate deception, rich lore, and deep atmospheric horror. Building an original world gives me the freedom to craft unique gameplay mechanics without any boundaries.

If you were interested in the early concept, thank you for the support. Follow my account to stay updated on Woodbound as development continues!

My newest acquisition

Maybe I found it in the middle of the woods, who knows...

Joking aside, I'm very happy, now I can cut the yarn from my crochet projects :)

Are any of the storyboards for the show available?

The only one I’ve managed to find is a deleted scene from Chapter 10 drawn and posted by Tom Herpich on his Tumblr

What would you say the aesthetic is to OTGW?

I love and naturally gear towards things like crows, ravens, black cats, black fences, swirly trees, purple skies, full moons, and big Victorian castles. However, I love the aesthetic of otgw with a more whimsical take with mushrooms, frogs, autumn leaves, etc. but I feel like otgw is that aesthetic paired with the one I just mentioned earlier. (Full moons, crows, etc.) so, what would you say that type of aesthetic is? Mushrooms and frogs and sunflowers, but a bit (if not completely) more elegant and gothic, as well as very vintage and mystical. Lmk your thoughts in the comments!

Need name ideas for my Over the Garden Wall inspired game! (Currently called "Unknown's Shadow")

My current working title is "Unknown's Shadow" but I want something better. It's a psychological horror adventure. Give me your best name ideas that fit that eerie, mysterious OTGW vibe!

Are there any PC games with similar aesthetics?

Hi, I'm looking for this for a long time without any success. The only game with similar aesthetics I've found is Don't Starve, other than that nothing. Please do you know of games with similar aesthetics to otgw? I would be grateful for any recommendations.

worth paying Steam's $100 fee or stick with itch?

Game's inspired by Over the Garden Wall, releasing in August. Currently itch-only. Trying to decide if it's worth paying Steam's $100 fee at this stage, or if sticking with itch has worked out for people in a similar spot.

Having My First Child This October!!

I’m having my first born child this coming October! My wife and I are so excited, and we were just talking about how we can’t wait to show it to our daughter for the first time.

Then we wondered, what’s an appropriate age for her first ever viewing of OTGW? So we were wondering what everyone’s opinions on it were! It is a bit spooky and dark at times for sure

Since the Unknown is some kind of place that resembles the colonial Americas throughout history, is there a chance that there could be golden age of piracy era Pirates roaming around in the unknown?

Like could Blackbeard be in the unknown somewhere?

Over the Garden Wall: The Lamplight Edition

Inspiration

This project started with an idea: What would Over the Garden Wall look like in black and white?

Methodology

Episodes and bonus features were ripped from the Official BluRay -- with the exception of the 10th Anniversary Special, which was ripped from YouTube. The main series includes subtitles and all audio tracks (Original, Director's Commentary, Composer's Cut).

Version 1: Converted to black and white.

Version 2: Converted to black and white with film grain/noise added.

Showcasing the Beast from my OTGW-inspired game, Unknown's Shadow. Thoughts?

Hey everyone, I'm developing a psychological horror adventure game in Unreal Engine 5 called Unknown's Shadow, heavily inspired by Over the Garden Wall.

This is the Beast. What do you guys think? If you have any feedback or ideas to add to the game, please let me know!
