What would you like to be the next PTA film?

I want a physchological thriller about the jazz industry, kind of like a mix between The Master and Boogie nights. The storyline would be about a music producer and a singer who clash, but are forced to work together for a year because of a contract. I doubt it will ever happen, but I would live to see Denzel ( he was in talks about a film with PTA 👀) as the musician and Jake Gylenhaal as the producer, and bringing back John C. Reily and Joaquin Phoenix

What do you personally want to see from him?

PTA 2027

PTA in 2027. No films likely. But, I noticed that 5 of his films are having anniversaries.

Boogie Nights- 30

Punch drunk love - 25

There will be blood - 20

The Master - 15

Phantom Thread - 10

I thought this was a cool coincidence.

Magnolia 🌸 (1999) Donnie gets fired | William H. Macy • Alfred Molina | Dir. Paul Thomas Anderson

One of Magnolia's biggest themes is about kids who are valued only for what they can provide, grow up not knowing how to love themselves.

Donnie was beloved world wide when he was "The Quiz Kid", but once he aged out, the world moved on. Nobody taught him how to be a happy, healthy, functioning adult. He spent his childhood being treated like a commodity, instead of a son.

Now grown up, his life has became a series of gaffes as he's left chasing that childhood validation.

Regina's face and performance

Saw OBAA 3X in the theater, once on Max in December, purchased the blu-ray which was delivered in January. Haven't watched it since then.

Revisiting it last night, I can't quite explain how this close up is so impacting but the look on her face is just so concerned and haunting and alive and it gets me every time.

Pretty sure the shot was in the trailer but within the context of the film and what's going on at that moment it hits in a way the trailer could never match.

(please forgive the low light cell phone image quality)

One Battle Question

I rewatched OBAA yesterday and, as always, I am riveted by the car “chase” scene at the end. I can not believe that is not a location that would have been in dozens of movies. Has it been and I just haven’t seen them? It’s really astonishing how he filmed it.

Anybody wanna buy my additional copy of OBAA?

I purchased two steelbooks from Amazon in case one got damaged. Sealed- will ship safely. Asking for $60-65 shipping included.

If PTA had secured the rights to Heatwave's "Boogie Nights," where in the movie do you think he would've used it?

Paul Thomas Anderson initially wanted to feature Heatwave's 1977 disco hit "Boogie Nights" in the movie. However, the group's lead singer, Johnnie Wilder Jr., was a devout born-again Christian and refused to license the recording for a film about the adult entertainment industry.

The staff at my local CeX (2nd hand media shop in the UK) were nice enough to let me have the box and art cards for Licorice Pizza for free today, since I’d bought the film from them a while ago but mine didn’t have those with it.

Happy birthday to one of the goats! Paul Thomas Anderson turns 55. What’s your favorite movie of his?

Mine is probably Boogie Nights.

Harriet Sansom Harris (Phantom Thread, Licorice Pizza) and Katherine Waterson (Inherent Vice) are both crushing it on season 2 of The Agency, an extremely good and largely slept-on television program which is unfortunately on Paramount Plus.

Screenplays

Is there some sort of paperback copy of all his screenplays that I’d be able to purchase somewhere just to read? I’ve always wanted to read them but when I search on eBay it’s all special signed copies or there are pdfs online that I don’t know the validity of. Anyone know where I could find them?
