This is the MXR Blue Box, which is most notable for being useless and gimmicky. But I just think this thing is crazy, and I love it. I've seen the Blue Box get a lot of dislike for being uncontrollable but I think that really just shows a lack of creativity and how a lot of people in pedal forums mostly just want to replicate old sounds instead of experimenting.

I think the appeal of the Blue Box is that it's unpredictable and quite literally untamable, hence it's love by more alternative noise rock musicians like Rowland S Howard (listen: "Dim Locator" by The Birthday Party, and Sleep Alone by RSH) or Sonic Youth, plus others.

Oftentimes, many are already turned off by the Blue Box before they even think to pair it with other pedal types to make some really cool sounds. Stacking with a really bright overdrive or distortion after it helps boost the volume drop and helps with the octave tracking. It creates an aggressively gnarly sound for angular leads. Putting a shimmer reverb or other weird reverb types and delays after the Blue Box can be really interesting in shoegaze and drone styles and adds some interesting textures to the sound, blending between the octave / fuzz mix knob during playing.

Not to mention she's a beast for playing bass in heavy bands.

I'm convinced the my Blue Box will never leave my board and I'll always find a fun way to play it and have fun.

​​ Tried to do some research on this, I remember going back and forth with a gentleman, Jonathan in England, haven't been able to find anything else about his current status or anything else about this particular pedal which I believe was a riff on the harmonic percolator of Albini fame, hence the graphics... it's a particularly nasty piece of work doesn't match exactly most harmonic percolator clones in fact it has a lower frequency switch that creates quite a volume boost anybody out there want to talk about it or let me know anything about that company Feel Free... I used to have a Tyrant pedal from the same guy, single knob fuzz which was great, but since I also have a creepy fingers fuzzbud which is sort of the ultimate one knob fuzz for me, I ended up passing the Tyrant on... just throwing this out there kind of curious hope the guys okay who made these great graphics by the way

Finally got my hands on a JHS Notaklön, and I didn’t have to put it together. Now to put it before or AFTER my Walrus Audio Ages…

Starting spooky month, right!

Excuse the mess, but I'm constantly moving things around, and it's kind of pointless for cable management. As much hate as the ds-1 gets, I've found it's very rare to find another drive that nails the sound I'm sometimes looking for. It's just the right amount of mud/tight/clean to stick right in the middle of my drives. I thought I'd be able to replace it with the YDR. I love that pedal, and i have plenty of uses for it, but it doesn't do what the ds-1 can do when stacking drives. It's the perfect pedal for 90's alternative like STP or QOTSA but also can tighten up enough to do early 00's progish rock like Coheed and Cambria. I definitely think a ds1 is a good pedal to have for a rainy day/backup. Currently, playing STP and the chain is a percolator>EP preamp>ds1> a little bit of chorus from the blue hippo, mild delay from the dm2w to fatten it some more, and a subtle spring tank from the pathways . I'd like to know what some of you guys think about the ds1 and what way you use it.
