Pentax Cameras from 1980s Competitive Camera Corp Catalogues

Four years worth of catalogs. (1985, 86, 8, and 89)

The K1000 shows up in all of them, which isn't surprising. Pentax sold millions of them. It'd be my second choice, behind the LX.

The first lens I would get would have been the 50mm f1.7, followed by the 28mm f2.8.

I would also take the Spotmeter V over the Digital Spotmeter.

K-70 aperture solenoid issue comes and goes?

I bought a K-70 with the 18-135mm in great condition a couple of weeks ago. The first day I tested it, it looked to be working normally, but when I picked it up again a few days later all my pictures were extremely underexposed. I got a few good shots again after shooting in burst mode or doing the RAW/Fx button optical exposure check trick but the aperture issue returned. I let the seller know who told me it was working fine when they tested it but was willing to take it back. I sent it back and today he sent me a video where the camera is again working fine? Could it be that taking the battery out for a couple of days demagnetises the solenoid enough for it to work normally again for a while? I'm probably going to still ask for the refund and look for a KP but the camera was in such good condition with only 3000 shutter count. I also have a K-x that could donate a solenoid but not sure it's worth risking breaking something and losing the $600.

Is there an easier way?

I have two Pentax *ist DS.

Camera 1) has a bad sensor and a good board.

Camera 2) has seemingly a bad SD card reader (SD locked error no matter the SD card 1-4gb) and a good sensor.

Has anybody changed a board without having to unsolder the board on one of these cameras? OR any idea of how to get the SD reader to work. It's not the memory card, I know that for a fact.

20 year old technology is proving to be a bit more difficult than I'm used to. Any tips are appreciated.

using pentax me super

i have a pentax me super that i’ve never used before and it’s my first proper film camera. it is stuck on automatic at the moment (going to try get it fixed) and already has a roll of film loaded i think as it’s taking photos and the counter is going up (although i thought they usually went down). I read in the manual that the roll of film will tell you what settings to have your camera on but because i didn’t buy the original film i have no way of knowing. i usually work with digital and i’m very unfamiliar with film. i want to take my camera to an upcoming concert mainly to photograph the people but how do i know that i’ve got the aperture, exposure etc right? i’d hate to get it developed and it all be over or under exposed

First rolls back from new MX are underexposed

Film scan day! First rolls through my new black MX. It seems to me to be metering too bright :(
In direct sun the meter wants me to stop way down at 1/1000 to achieve a proper exposure. However, most of my shots were underexposed by 1-2 stops. (pics 1-5)

I also picked up a Pentax AF200T flash. The flash photos shot with the black MX came out properly exposed (pics 6-8), using the settings listed on the flash unit (f8, 1/60) so it would appear the camera is working but the metering is off.

The ebay seller has been wonderful as they've already agreed to pay to have the camera sent back to them to inspect the quirky self-timer. I was waiting to finish my roll of film to send it off in the mail when my scans came in and revealed the dark exposures. Not sure if they can fix it or not, but the ebay is taking a personal responsibility to make it right which is great.

I was so impressed with the that I bought a silver MX from them. Among my justifications to make that purchase, I've decided to let the kids use the family k1000's and I get a couple of fully functional MX bodies to allow me to shoot film into my old age. Its been great having two bodies for my lenses to ride on. The 12-roll film stash came in the mail so the black MX is loaded with black and white while the silver is rocking some Kodak Gold 200.

Shots 9 and 10 were another roll on dad's old k1000 using the various lenses I've collected. I think 22/36 were keepers off that roll, so its not me being inept at metering...

At the end of 3 rolls I have 40+ shots I love and its been fun having a film kit to run alongside my digital gear. Hoping there is a simple resolution to the black MX, who's mirror stays up after firing a shot using the self-timer, only when a lens is on...

Thanks for reading. Happy to hear any advice, comments, camera chats

500T turns out much better with a warming filter... [Kodak Vision3 500T, 85B, Pentax-FA 77mm Limited, Pentax Super Program]

Kodak Vision3 500T, 85B, Pentax-FA 77mm Limited, Pentax Super Program.

Scanned Epson v850 @ 3200 DPI with SilverFast 9.

Edited in Affinity 2.

I had shot 500T before based on some threads I'd seen but couldn't get the colours in daylight the way I wanted. 85B is the way to go.

I hated how long it took to paint out the dust so I'll stick to regular film emulsions now where I can use the infrared dust subtraction in SilverFast

Is this lens a Pentax mount

It's a Bigma at a secondhand store and the sales clerk doesn't know anything about cameras. ChatGPT is confident that it's a K-mount lens.

50mm 1.4 SMC - bought outside of the market...

40 Euro... no dust, no fungus, fully workt. If you wounder how to get this lens usually priced at 100 for 40... it was the one single seller that didnt use the price control app for Ebay and other markets. IMO a fair price for a lens, that gives bokeh but lacks sharpness of nowadays lenses.

I was also looking to "something better", e.g. the HD PENTAX-D FA★ 50mmF1.4 SDM AW but there quite a lot with "autofocus defect" and still sold for 300 dollars or 250 Euro. Ridiculous, and I cant do macro shots with them becuase Pentax had the stupid idea to have the aperture motor driven (and closed when detached or at macro tubes).

Why has my K5-iis started doing this?

When I turn it on, it seems fine. I can take one photo, which saves, but then when I take a second photo, the whole camera freezes up. No response from any of the buttons. I have to pull the battery and reinsert it, then it resets. Am I boned here?
