International Voter Drive 2026, for dual U.S.-Korean citizens and other U.S. citizens in South Korea

Hi- I'd like to make an announcement from Democrats Abroad, the official overseas branch of the U.S.-based Democratic Party with a chapter in South Korea. Since an extremely important election is coming in November, we're hoping to register more dual U.S.-Korean citizens and other eligible U.S. voters who live in South Korea.

We started our International Voter Registration Drive for 2026 with in-person and online events. If you know any eligible US citizens, they can register and request a ballot. Just send them this link: https://voteabroad.org/RedditVote26. As long as they'll turn 18 by election day, they're eligible.

If anyone wishes to learn more about what we're doing near you, you can find out more at https://www.democratsabroad.org/kr. We have regular in-person meetups and events online. If you have any questions about overseas voting or what we do, feel free to ask in the comments below.

Travel to penticton August 21

I am supposed to head to penticton on Friday , I have been watching the weather, air quality etc and I’m getting mixed answers. Yesterday it was saying air quality was low moderate now today saying health risk. I know things can change fast. I am not traveling with any kids just me and my boyfriend. We won’t get a refund so I was just trying to be as optimistic as possible to hopefully still be able to come. If anyone can give insight if it would still be enjoyable?

Preparing property to prevent fire and the risk of trees

Doing some serious thinking about the trees on our property, and wondering about the balance of removing trees to prevent fire risk versus the benefits they provide such as lowering air temperature, reducing flood risk (in winter), etc. For example,we have a cedar that I know should probably come down, but I also appreciate the shade it provides us and the wildlife in our neighbourhood. I'm from a different part of the province where fire risk is less of an issue, so this is quite new to me. Can any longtime residents shed some light on this for me? Edit: For context, my property is in town and not in the hills.

Tools stuck in summerland.

Heres a fun one, all my tools are stuck on a job site in summerland. Something tells me i would be a low priority, and not able to get a permit to enter the city...

Cant really work without my tools, but i understand theres more important issues right now..

Westjet Flights

Preface: Not trying to sound like a selfish asshole because I realize people in Summerland have lost their homes… However, just wondering if flights are operating out of Penticton? We have a WestJet flight booked for the 20th and it seems as though no flights have been running for the past 10 days. Wondering if we should look at booking something out of Kelowna. Thanks in advance for any info!!

Thanks everyone — WestJet continues to extend the travel advisory. I don’t think they plan to fly to Penticton for the foreseeable future (smoke or not). We are flying out of Kelowna tomorrow 👍

Beaches

So it’s my first summer living here and I was wondering about beach recommendations.

I live by Okanagan so it was my go to, but all the ash kinda has me exploring. Checked out Skaha, yesterday and going to head to Sudbury today. Any other nice beaches you’d recommend?

So far I like Skaha more than Okanagan, except the convenience of living on the north end. Both seem family oriented, so bonus points for any recommendations with less little kids zooming around.

That said, I’d like to check them all out!

Thanks :)

Okanagan Beach Penticton-Ash?

Can someone please confirm the amount of ash debris in the water? Above is from two days ago, is there more or less than the amount pictured? Wibit is still open so I imagine it’s not too bad but would like input from people who are there now. Thank you!

Just cancelled 11 day trip

Leaving Osoyoos back to Vancouver after picking up my brother because the fires were so bad. We went through Merritt and as we drove away the smoke just stopped at a certain point. We were about to go to Penticton but the whole area is ablaze. I was also born with mild asthma but that is not the only worry. 😥
