PgMP Pass

Passed PgMP.

Strategic: AT
Life Cycle: T
Benefits: AT
Stakeholder: T
Governance: AT

The hardest part was the application process and the number of questions. Had to resubmit my application and it took about 60 days to complete the process for both submissions.

For preparation, I spent 3 days reading the Standard for Program Management, mapping activities across the program lifecycle, and using the PMTraining question bank (I am not affiliated). Whenever I missed questions, I went back to the standard to understand why.

I used ChatGPT heavily to reinforce formulas, acronyms, and concepts such as EV, PV, AC, SPI, CPI, EAC, ETC, TCPI, NPV, and IRR. If I was stuck or didn’t understand a concept, I also used Chat to explain my thought process and ask for feedback on where my misunderstanding was and built a register for what I missed and why.

For context, I have 14 years of experience in program management, cyber, and risk. I also hold the PMP, PMI-RMP, PMI-ACP, CISSP, CISM, CRISC, CGRC, AAIR, AAISM, Security+, CEH, SAFe Agilist, SAFe Scrum Master, and SAFe POPM certifications prior to my PgMP exam.

My biggest takeaways:

  1. take your time writing the application and use the handbook to write it

  2. take at least 2-3 full simulated mocks to get used to sitting for 170 questions

  3. review why you get questions wrong and break it down at a granular level

Happy to answer questions.

Tips

So how to prepare for PgMP given scarcity of resources? The fact that PMI posts no official practice exams is alarming... Also what's with this issue of questions having syntax errors, language wise?

How to overcome all of this shit? I definitely want to pass it from the first time?

Let the trolls troll....

Exam Challenge

Has anyone ever challenged the results of an exam? I’m considering going that route and was curious if anyone has experience with the process.

I provided feedback about what I felt were significant issues with the exam, including poor grammar, spelling errors, and an overall disappointing testing experience. Full transparency: I did not pass the exam and I already rescheduled my retake. When I was discussing my feedback with a support agent, they suggested submitting an exam challenge.

This is completely new territory for me. I’m not even sure whether I want to go through with it, but I am definitely curious to hear from others who have. What was the process like, and was it worth pursuing?
