How bad is this for the cards?

How bad is this for the cards?

I just put together a little display case, and I hate how even the penny sleeves mask the holo effects. So I have them raw doggin in the case on some stands. There is no sunlight hitting it. How bad is this? lol they aren’t crazy expensive cards, but curious how this will effect them long term.

Vintage Binder Update!

Picked up some seriously cool cards since my last post. In particular have gotten into the super old Japanese promos. I've got the ANA Articuno on the way (been lost in the mail for like a week lmao), but such awesome cards. Makes me wish I could have been part of it, I can imagine just PRAYING to get a flight in the month they gave out a promo. I have faint memories of seeing the Pokemon themed plane as a kid, been a very fun piece of poke-history to recapture!!

For all the noobs who constantly parrot the "Pokémon cards have been beating the S&P by 3000% for 20 years" lie, here's a chart that shows you're wrong:

They have been beating the S&P since 2016, and back then they weren't beating the S&P by enough to justify things like shipping costs and (at the time when the buyer pool was the size of a very popular hobby rather than a mainstream global asset market) liquidity problems. It's been 6 years, not 20. 10 if you're not subtracting shipping costs and accounting for the time it would take to sell pre-2020.

Collection- 1 Year In

Exactly a year ago, we stopped at a coffee shop on our way to the mountains for Memorial Day weekend and I wandered into a store with Pokémon next door. I bought a few packs (Black Bolt & White Flare) and not only were my then 5-year-old and 2-year-old having fun with them, but it brought me back to childhood being a 90s kid. I jumped in with two feet and:

-Am 1 card (Mew Ultra Ball) short of a 151 Grandmaster set.
-8 cards short of a complete Reverse Holo Legendary Collection set in PSA 8 and above
-Knocked out the 25th anniversary English and Japanese collection

It's been fun to collect and put together, but the best part has definitely been sharing it with my kids!

Worlds Only Complete Unown Alphabet Perfect 10 First Edition Set

Hey trainers,

I've spent years chasing and collecting Unown pokemon cards and making what someday amounts to a good alphabet set.

For all of the Unown that never had a "first edition" stamped card released, I went ahead and did my best to compensate for that as well. For example, the R had so many random releases that I figured I would just hunt down one of each kind of R so that any collector could choose which is their favorite flavor. The J was also not part of the original release. It took the longest to find because of the black star promo designation and collectors looking to complete their own black star sets. The only way to get that J was to buy the Pokemon 3 VHS movie and then have the included card graded. And then of course, let's not forget that eventually the ! and ? pokemon got released, so I included them as well in a few variations (again just to satisfy collectors preferences...plus there is a funny error card for added value!) I know one or two of the cards are the only PSA 10's in the world, plus one card only exists as a CGC 10 since no other "perfect 10" exists in any other grading company.

Not sure if I'm done or not. Want to get it framed and try framing it different ways. Maybe add some more cards? Who knows...

Anway, I hope everyone enjoys singing the ABC's in their head!

Misc collection page

WotC stamped Misty's psyduck, and then three pokemon trading figure game cards! Thought they were fake cards at first when we dug them out of some bulk, but nope. Definitely the most off-beat part of my current collection. Misty's psyduck was a childhood card, no idea whether we got it from the magazine or traded for it, but it's one of my favorites too.

Does Anyone Know What This Is?

Bought a Chaos Rising check-lane blister from Target today. The Reshiram is a Cosmos Holo which is normal, but the Moltres has no holo pattern whatsoever despite having the rare star in the bottom left corner. Is this an error card?

Fake or Real?

I just bought a small lot of Pokémon cards from an online seller which had these ones in it, I am not familiar with Japanese cards so I was looking for some insight on authenticating them. The Eevee, Flareon, and Sylveon do seem thick when holding them in person and the Blastoise does seem a little unusual as well which is making me worried they may be fakes, looking for other insight on these to determine if i should return or not 😊

Anyone ever clean these?

Has anyone in here polished them? They have fingerprints from many years ago and I wanted to clean them up without potentially causing damage

Bought my first Pokémon packs and I pulled these out, I'm guessing I need to find a card protector stat?

I've never played the Pokémon TCG before (big fan of the mainline video games though), and on a whim I decided to buy some Pokémon cards while visiting Sendai's Pokémon Center for their seasonal merch. I got a really flashy Mega Darkrai EX card from one of my 5 packs and I'm curious as to how I can build a deck around it and learn to play?

My incredibly frustrating experience with the Vault-X XXL binder for my Pokédex

This is just a rant. I was so excited to finally get my hands on the highly-touted 1088 pocket XXL binder for a Pokédex. I have other Vault-X binders and love them.

I immediately start picking out bulk, sleeving up, and putting the cards in. I notice the pockets in this one are significantly larger than the other binders I have from them (the 4 and 9 pocket). With the previous binders, I couldn’t use the usual Ultra Pro penny sleeves as the pockets were always too short in height to fit the taller sleeves. I always had to go with Fanatics or Vault X usually due to their smaller size. This is what I still had on hand, and this is where the problems started.

At first I thought “wow these pockets are really big for Pokemon cards and feel very loose compared to previous binders. I didn’t notice the main issue of this until after I had inserted 900+ cards and opened the binder back up. once I opened it back up and started looking through the pages……..cards were sliding out of the pockets all over the place! I thought “WTF I thought side-loading binders are supposed to prevent cards from coming out!” I was PISSED! I then proceeded to remove all 900+ cards and re-sleeve them into the taller/larger Ultra Pro sleeves, hoping this would prevent them sliding out. I spent another $15 on 1000 new sleeves, spent forever doing the binder again and……….cards are still sliding out, albeit not as many as previously. I even switched to mostly holo cards and double-sleeved some hoping the thickness might make a difference. It did not.

I reached out to Vault-X customer support asking if this was a possible defect in production, as these pockets are very different from their other binders, and you shouldn’t be “required” to sleeve cards to prevent them from sliding out, let alone have sleeved cards just fly out all over the place. I even included pictures of what was happening. It felt like an AI corporate Kool-Aid drinking robot was responding to me. The rep said I should try to not flip through pages rough, using competitor sleeves can exaggerate cards sliding out, use Vault X sleeves, it’s not defective, etc. It seemed like a blame game. I told them I’m not handling it rough, I used three different sleeves, including Vault X and had the same issues, I double sleeved cards, etc and nothing helped. They passed me off.

Now here I am wondering if I should buy another, find a different brand, or just go back to good old-fashioned Ultra Pro Platinum pages in a 3” d-ring binder, where I had all types of cards in for 30+ years with ZERO issues of damage or cards falling out the top.

TLDR: Can’t find a solution for cards sliding out of Vault-X binder and their customer support offered no solutions.
