Admittedly this was the most challenging mono type I’ve done in Crystal. There were a handful of battles I had to retry more than once. And between you and me, I really only won against Red due to some favourable rng with my powders working.

Crystal Legacy did wonders for Bug-types, and I see a LOT of bug mono runs. Grass’s biggest buff is Giga Drain, and it DEFINITELY made a difference.

Think I’ll do a casual water playthrough next.

I’m from england but on a trip to japan atm. Was especially excited for hunting for some retro consoles and pokemon games. Found the gba in a shop for around £80 english money and just had to buy it. A bit worn down but works fine and reads games well. Need to replace the battery’s for red and crystal tho as they don’t hold a save. I’m gonna keep it and maybe add an ips screen but keep it completely stock other than that as i’m pretty sure it’s rare!

Just realized this is only the fourth time I’ve ever beaten Gold.

This time I went with the overtuned mons. I’d never had the chance to use victreebell, Golem, or Alakazam (lonely kid with no money so no friends, no extra cart).

The run was super fun but pretty vanilla, didn’t really struggle anywhere. Lance’s last Dragonite before Charizard ko’d every single pokemon except There is No Spoon (Alakazam) and FlameoHotman (Typhlosion). I saved him for an honor battle. So we went fire vs fire.

But yeah I always felt like I’ve played this game about a million times but if you count since it came out-the years I played every other gen-the times I didn’t finish-when I didn’t have it cus I sold all my pokemon stuff to make rent and feed myself… it’s only been four times!

Red, we’re coming for ya!
