In the US, particularly Philadelphia PA, and Annapolis MD, what is the name of the form used for when an officer is injured while in the line of duty? If anyone has a template of the form, that would be super helpful, or if you can give a brief explanation on what the form would look like or what would be put in it, that would be awesome. Thanks!
Hi all! I'm writing a book and I need some help making sure one of the scenes is realistic. The situation is this. Between 9:00 and 10:00 p.m. on a Friday night in a fictional city but think the old part of a large metropolis. Emergency services receive call for a single car accident, ran into a light post, driver is alone and unconscious. In this situation, LE and the ambulance arrive at roughly the same time. There are two witnesses on site; one who actually saw what happened, and one who came running up after he heard the crash from his apartment above.
Second witness hasn't left his apartment in 2 years because of a panic disorder so he appears to be in shock, though what's actually happening is terror.
What's the order of operations? Do you take a police report from the witnesses there or do you give them your card so they can contact you later and you can help the emergency responders? Does law enforcement look for paperwork to determine who the car belongs to and if it's insured or do you find that out when you run plates, which I assume you would do? And what do you do with the car once you get the driver out of it? Do you let the city know that the light post has been hit and needs to be looked at, and if yes, is that an on-site thing or an in the morning thing? Are you worried about the guy having a somewhat controlled panic attack, given that he's nowhere near a medical emergency and his friend (the first witness) is there, whereas the driver of the car is unconscious?
Luckily I've never had to deal with this myself, but I don't want that to be obvious when people read the book 🤣🤣🤣
