Cardboard Captain America Shield

I worked on this shield for the past week, and I gotta say I'm pretty happy with the result. It's pretty much just cardboard inside and out (except the straps ofc). I didn't sand it or did anything to make it smooth, just got lucky with the cardboard quality.

Hauling a massive handmade dragon into the remote Australian bush (Shot on 16mm)

Heya everyone,
Wanted to share a look at the madness behind shooting the video for Grayson Gilmour’s "Minus Times Infinity". I built a massive, physical animatronic dragon puppet (we named him Boris) and we hauled him out into dense, remote Australian forest. What an absolute trip ha. I’ll be honest the art direction was more school play than Jurassic park but that was sort of part of the silliness of the concept… when it tore apart Grayson limb to limb.

To get the eye scales I used bathroom sealant and green dye. Gave a great on camera shine.

Would love to hear from anyone else who still shoots practical puppets or physical builds in large scale. How did you deal with the logistics?

How to get into the prop making industry professionally

Im just about to finish my degree in Fine Arts after originally planning to do a degree in prop making and special effects which unfortunately fell through, but I have no idea how to even begin getting into prop making professionally. Once i have my degree I plan on tinkering with my own prop making projects in my free time to make up a portfolio of sorts but other than i feel really stuck. I live in the North of the UK where we do have a pretty strong creative industry but my FA course taught us nothing about getting a creative job or marketing ourselves and I just really want to work in a prop house its been my dream job for years. If anyone has any advice, suggestions, knows any companies up north or has experience anything would help me out !!!

Evolution Mikey Update

Alright everyone, this is the last update ill be doing until hes fully finished with detail and all his gear etc. i went for a much more realistic version cutting open the factory mouth more to add teeth and everything, fingernails were painted then UV resined over and light sanded for a real nail look. Eyes were paint and then thincoat UV resin over for a more enclosed eyeball with depth. This is currently my 4th build and i started doing this 5 months ago and have been constantly pushing myself to progress more. This currently has about 100 hours in it just as he is now. Someone more experienced may get it done faster but ill get there and i want to create something people feel in this world more than a cool toy. I hope you all enjoy the process and thanks for checking it out. Ill update the final build once hes finished

Verso's sword by me

Hi! This is the progress of Verseleso so far. In the game the runes don't have light, but I couldn't resist 😂. All the prop, including the STL are made by me. I want to change the lights program to fit better on the runes.

Question about 2 part or epoxy putty

I'm working on a project and I'm looking to do some sculpting on top of 3d printed parts, I've been looking at epoxy or 2 part puttys for this but keep running across the same 4 (smooth-on's free form sculpt, smalltongue, magic sculpt, and apoxie sculpt) which all recieve some form of negative or very mixed review and (expect in the case of smalltongue) have a high price range.

I've looked at other brands like milliput but I haven't been thrilled by what I've seen there either. It's also quite hard to find how large the sizes are as most of the stuff comes by weight which tends to be annoying, but that's not the main point.

So I was hoping someone here might be able to enlighten me on which products they like and don't like from experience.

Which products can be smoothed with water and which become too soupy?

And any other notes like that.

Any help would be immensely appreciated, thank you.

Übel's staff modeled and made by me

Hi Frieren fans!! Soon my gf and I will have a photoshoot, she'll do Übel and I'll do Land. In the past, I've helped her make props, but this will be my first cosplay ever, wish me luck.

I have a little more of the process on IG: @3D_Kernel

Daredevil helmet

Finally finished my 3d printed daredevil mask. I purchased the file on Etsy from AlexanderMakesShop. Going to be printing more for a bunch of color variations. Let me know what everyone thinks. This is my first real attempt at something like this so don’t criticize me too hard lol.
