Reccomendations for body bag props?

Reccomendations for body bag props?

Needs to be white, side opening or with the sorta C shaped front opening pictured and sturdy enough to be dragged on smooth concrete, industrial rental carpet, and over those plastic wire covers they use to get power across the isle in conventions.

Was considering this one pictured cus its cheap but unsure if something like this will actually be able to be dragged along a floor all day without shredding/breaking up.

I really dont want "can you drag a polyethelene body bag about all day without it ripping" in my search history and I'm skeptical of wether or not I'd get a useful result 🤣

Despite lots of searches on various marketplaces I'm struggling to actually find something that looks correct.

Is there a confirmed connection between the national anthem and california comics?

I saw national anthem referred to as a prequil but short of occurring in the 90s and early 2000s and having a few pieces of iconography and themes in common I dont see a whole lot of linear similarity between them.

There's obvious themes in common, bland corporatism, etc. And use of the same items in both universe in the form of the trans am, milligrams mask, and the vampitlre masks, so its not like you can't make national anthem fit as a prequil to California/the my chem music videos, but considering national anthem got a happy ending 10-19 years before the events of NANANA it makes me think that its just a sorta similar story/vibe or an au sorta thing.

I've seen it said that gee was planning the killjoys comic before using the concept for danger days stuff, at which point he changed characters to the band members and obviously california is a continuation of the music video narratives.

So is national anthem just Gee giving us the original vision pre-danger days with a "dont try and mash these things together theyre just different stories" sorta thing, or has he ever confirmed what (if any) connection there is between the two comics?

Having just re-read both I'm struggling to sqare national anthem as being a linear predecessor to the DD & California stuff. It feels more like the difference between two different runs of spiderman than it feels like a prequil.

Thinking about putting my frank and mikey bandannas into a frame for display.

Probably gonna get one square frame and display the bandannas folded in half diagonally, one on one corner, one on the other, then might put my frank guitar pic and some other small accessories in there like my boxpark wristband and mask maybe (if it doesnt take away from the overall look)

Im kinda worried about the prints on the bandannas sticking to the plexiglass of the frame.

The bandannas are printed with a sorta plastisol ink and some of the print has gotten a little messed up from being stored folded on themselves (pictures 2-3 above)

Has anybody tried something like this? If so what was the result did you have any iddues like these that I'm worrying about? Have you framed other items that have that kinda plastic print on them?

Cheers in advance.

Which do you think is the closest match? (Fullscreen to see all options)

While I have many skills, colour matching is not one of them. Im aware that the mask I have is deffo a little paler than the on screen poison mask but I'm struggling to figure out which yellow paint will make a better match.

Trying to compare to the palest part of the mask as the rest will be darkened by weathering.

Some of these are definetely too-orange or too-pale but struggling to make an actual call on which matches the original mask best.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Didnt realise there were so many different versions of these masks.

Different sizes, different qualities. Etc.

I mean it makes sense but would have assumed this to be a bit like those sound boards from toy laser guns, everyone just sorta works to the same standard domino mask produced overseas.

That last one isnt a joke btw. They had normal photos of the same kind as the others and thats what arrived in the post 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ gonna cut it up to make the appliqué parts for Gerard's mask.

Some more pics of the shoulder holster setup.

Its far from perfect but it deffo works nicely.

At some point I'll likely buy some veg tan leather and pattern a more screen accurate harness design off of this one.

The screen used harnesses are a uniform thickness all the way around the shoulder, the fronts are stitched together instead of laced and since they were custom fit to the guys the back just features the four holes for lacing with no extea holes for adjustment, this makes them look sleeker snd nicer overall in my opinion.

The screen used harnesses also lack the rivet and belt holes for the cross body strap. Since they're all double sided harnesses joined at the back by the lacing that closes each shoulder loop, they dont need the cross body strap to prevent them slipping off.

I keep mine from falling off with the epaulettes I made for the jacket and a few strategic chicago screws that go through the harness and into the jacket, one at the top of the shoulder under the epaulette, one at the back of the shoulder where the rivet hole already existed for the cross body strap, two that come from the holster, pass through the harness and then the jacket, and one at the bottom of the holster that holds on the leg strap when the holster is configured as a drop leg, that one just goes through the jacket.

The first two are to stop the harness from slipping on my shoulder, and the last three to hold the holster down in the correct orientation so I can take out the raygun without the holster coming with it.

I think the drop leg holster looks prettier quality/assembly wise, but I think this looks better on the jacket. If I ever rock the killjoy look at an event thats too hot for the jacket I'll swap back to dropleg configuration (by event I mean convention of post apoc festival, not gig, wouldnt risk the raygun at a gig even if it is clearly a prop.

Shoulder holster harness arrived today!

Had to extend it a little with some spare leather laced underneath as the jacket has big arm holes but now that's done and the raygun holster is attached to the harness I'm immensely pleased.

Shoulder holster looks a lot better with the jacket than the leg holster did since it's fairly long for a denim jacket and it was covering the raygun a bit when I wore the leg holster. I've also put some of the various chicago screws that hold the holster together through the jacket so the holster is held down and doesnt flap around or lift with the raygun when I draw it.

This is far from screen accurate but for a custom costume I think it still fits the vibes and aestetics nicely and now that I've got the size more or less perfect I can use this to pattern a custom one in the future that I can make more accurate to the ones worn on screen if the mood takes me. In the short term I'll probably get some more of this style of black leather and make a matching right side at the bare minimum as all of the shoulder hoslters in the videos are double armed and connected across the back with the cordage that laces them up.

Did this happen? Call out for party poison mask back in 2011?

I have a vague memory of it being posted on the mcr website forum that Gee had lost the poison mask and they were asking fans if they had one he could use? Just saw a pic of Gee wearing a different mask and had a vague flashback to someone (maybe frank?) Posting saying Gee's mask had gone missing and did any fans have one they could get to the band at a show.

Anybody else remember this or have I just started manufacturing fake memories in my old age?

Now this feels like progress.

The sight has been bothering me from the start. Ive been really unsure about how I was gonna make it work but I think I've nailed the shape.

Honestly abandoning my initial method for making the slide move has been a godsend as its allowed me to tighten up the area around the sight and where the slide interacts with it.

I think the end result will come with a choice. Either I can fit lights and sounds in the raygun or I can engineer a working slide mechanism. I likely cant do both as the best way to make the slide work is to fit the springs and rails in where I made room for the batteries ontop of the barrel/frame. Once ive got casts made up ill experiment with a slide mechanism and a stationary slide mount that leaves room for a battery pack.

In all honesty with how much I've lowered the slide batteries might not fit anymore.

New bolts are in and theyre looking just about right.

Have a few with smaller head ones on the way that I may use instead but these work at the moment. Once I have the smaller ones in I'll decide if they need the smaller heads or not.

And the final batch. Life on the Murder Scene, The Black Parade is Dead, and May Death Never Stop You disks.

These aren't as clean as the others, doing three was a small job, doing the rest of my MCR CDs is less so and I was starting to lose the light so theyre a little rushed.

The darker disks are also just plain harder to photograph as they bounce the light weird.

Havent bothered with the album covers and such as they're widely available for these unlike the new stuff.

These would be a lot better if I had a scanner, I could get nice flat scans of the disks and all the booklets and such but this will have to do for now.

This concludes all my MCR albums with the exception of the main version of DD15 (fun ghoul and jet star disks) as I have no intention of opening those up to photograph.

I may do vinyls and singles in the future if the mood takes me.

Danger days album assets for all you digital file nerds.

Album covers pulled from website listings.

Photographed the disks and removed the backgrounds in photoshop myself.

Since I've got various versions I thought I'd make up a wee asset pack for both of these for anybody ripping their CDs onto their computers.

For my deluxe edition alt cover that I just ripped as a FLAC to my home PC (i listen to my music via home server) I've got the main folder as the album cover, then folders for disk 1 and disk 2 set up as the pictures of each disk so everything is clear and distinct at a glance.

There's two pictures of each disk as I'd exported once at 100% and once at 50% for converting to an icon file. Idk which is which as uploading photos on here doesnt list file names so posting both incase one looks worse after being fed through reddit as I dont know what compression is going to do to these.

Sadly I cant post the .icon files but theyre straight forward to make with a file converter.

And weathered.

Just applied some watered down black paint, butned it a little (more just soot from the flame more than actual burns), scarred the cheek with a hot scalpel and took some of the paint down with a bit of sand paper. Im honestly pretty happy with this

u/Queernephy — 23 days ago

First try at a killjoy mask.

Not sure if I love it or not. Base mask isn't right, I thought it'd be the correct kind but its kinda a cheap, thinner, flimsy version. Got some better masks on order and made sure these ones are the correct more rigid kind with the defined rim.

Gotta weather this but unsure how I'm gonna go about that, I deffo think I'm going to put some kind of lazer burn close-call on the cheek or temple and will likely give it some light mistings with some black and grey spray paint but other than that I'm not 100% sure.

Heads up to anybody doing this kinda mask, they dont paint well at all, this one has been primed grey then white and that sorta sealed the fibres enough to stop the purple and blue paint from bleeding but without this the paint would bleed awfully and a clean line would be impossible.

If you wind up with a base mask colour you like you could probably seal it with some matt finish clear spray paint before adding details.

Though worth noting the original killjoy masks on screen didn't have details painted on, they had shapes applied to the outside of the masks in different colours, the base masks might have been painted but honestly im not 100% sure they were as the gerard yellow mask looks a lot like the yellow colour some of these these satin domino masks come in as standard, same with Ray's blue one (these are the only two masks to actually appear on screen)

My gigs so far.

Set lists from the gigs I've been to over the years and a tally on each album track listing.

Colour coded by album.

Orange- bullets

Red- revenge

Grey- black parade

Green- danger days

Blue- conventional weapons

Pink- b sides

I've been mistakenly saying for ages that I was there for the planetary go live debut, it wasnt planetary go, it was destroya. But 16 years will do that to your memory.

Lowered the slide *again* and reworked the sight.

It. Never. Ends 😭😭😭

Every time I get one bit done the bits I haven't fixed up and made more accurate look rubbish in comparison.

Decided the slide was still sitting a little high so I lowered it a little further by dremeling it out on the inside a little. After doing this I noticed it also wants to sit further back than it did before. With the slide raised the whole thing needs to sit further forward to keep the gap around the side port greebly correct (see yellow raygun in pic 1-3). However moving it back has revealed that the slide is actually too short. The top front piece should extend quite a bit further forward, luckily it seems to literally just be the very front that has this issue as the tip of my slide is much shorter than the production made rayguns (see last pic of a production made raygun to see what I mean), there's a few other inaccurate dimensions on the slide but theyre all vertical things that cant really be remedied short of making a whole new slide, which I cannot be bothered doing right now.

Fixing the front of the slide isn't super complicated, I'm mostly just adding a bunch of apoxiesculpt to the tip and shaping it. This will be a weak spot on the master but the castings will be fine. Leaving it to dry overnight as I write this post

I also trimmed down and reshaped the front sight to match the screen used rayguns, I was expecting this job to be a massive pain but honestly its the most straight forward accuracy mod I've done *knocks on wood*

Main body on the master still needs the sight finished and the etched line fixed up. Honestly I may just fill it in again then make some slight scalpel scores where the line is and etch them into the casts I pull properly, its a lot easier on resin than it is on the acrylic and car body filler of the master. Once those two issues are resolved and some final clean up is done the main body of the master is ready for the mold making process, which I've decided to go ahead with since the raygun has been substantially fixed up. Its gone from maybe 60% accurate to maybe 90%. Its never goingnto be 100% accurate short of making a whole new master from scratch but honestly even if I made a ehole new one fron scratch I dont know if I'd actually be able to get something 100% accurate. The original rayguns are honestly kinda geometrically weird and the references just arent available out there to be 100% sure whats happening with their topography.

Anyway thats all for now folks. Will update again when the slide or sight are finished.

On the whole "ray gun" instead of "jet star" thing.

Ray's guitar pics from the world contamination tour say "ray gun jones" instead of "Jet star", in comparison Frank and Mikey's both have fun ghoul and kobra kid on them respectively.

I'm curious if they'd originally intended for Ray's character to have a different name and thats why the pic has a different name and why some merch has gotten the name wrong?

Pic 1 is rays plectrums for sale on ebay, 2 is one of mikeys for sale on ebay, 3 is franks from a reddit post. Pic 4 is the infamous hoodie.

Appologies if this has been covered/discussed. I've not seen much discussion on this just a bunch of people getting mad at the merch team for messing up.

Party Poisons jacket isn't leather?!?

Pretty much what the title says, for near 16 years I've thought that all the killjoy jackets were leather, but at the very least Gerard and Ray's jackets are nylon (or a similar thin synthetic fabric) and not leather.

Noticed this while going over references for Party Poison, the base jacket isnt leather, it's nylon with leather (or pleather) appliques.

It was this picture viewing the jacket from a low angle that finally made it click for me, you can see bunching around the front seams on the jacket that isnt common on leather and speaks to the fabric being super thin. This also explains how the quilting is so pronounced on the jackets and why the officially liscenced jackets were mostly nylon. Id always assumed the officially liscenced jackets were nylon for cost reasons or something.

You can see the same sorta texture on a picture of ray in this pic where its looking over his shoulder, you can almost see a woven texture in it too.

I always thought it was mad that they were wearing leather jackets in the deserts but nylon, while still warm, seems a lot more reasonable.

Ive wanted to try DIYing a poison jacket for a while, this may prove to actually be doable and a lot more wearable

The end is in sight!

Lower frame is mostly finished, work on the trigger surround is underway.

I've lost one of the guitar pick greeblies from the right hand side so I gotta make that. May imbed a bolt in it to screw into the body since the right side has the opening for the trigger assembly which I dont want to glue shut and fill around incase I decide to make a new mold. If its got a bolt and screws into the body of the raygun I can use it to essentially clamp down the section that lifts out and keep it from moving without the need for glue and filler.

Gonna get the trigger ring sanded and add some more epoxy putty to sculpt out some asymmetry where the trigger guard meets the grip, then hopefully all the trigger area needs is a wet sand and a coat of primer to make sure its perfect.

If I can bear the unpleasentness of looking at a screen for a few hours I may jump on my PC and start putting together images I wanna get made into waterslide decals for the BLI version
