Does anyone know what this joint is? I haven’t seen it before.

This is a neck re-reset. It was in pretty bad shape. I thought I’d seen everything..

Quote of $250 for repairs. Fair?

I went to my local music shop's guitar tech for some fret buzz and they gave me a quote of $250.

They said that the entire fret board is inconsistent and they would have to file it all down. They also said that the saddle has a different radius than the fretboard so they would have to make deeper grooves on the outermost strings to offset the 'flatness' of the saddle.

Then after that was done they would do a standard relief adjustment and intonation check.

Im curious if this is all a fair price or if I'm being upselled.

I also live in a VHCOL area (SF) if that matters.

Label preservation?

I am working on restoring a 1925 Gibson L3. I have removed the back to fix/repair a body length crack. The label on the inside is mostly in tact but is loose. Has anyone ever covered the label with lacquer or is there a way to adhere the label without ruining it?

Fender Replacement Necks

Hey everyone,

I’ve got a Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar that needs a new neck and I’m trying to figure out the most reliable option. Ideally I just want something that bolts on and is basically ready to go without turning this into a full project and right now I have my eyes on the MIM jaguar necks. This is a sentimental guitar so I’m all for upgrades that enhance playability, which is why a squier neck would be my second choice.

I’m wondering if Fender replacement necks are a straightforward fit for these Jaguars. I can get 10% off Fender parts, so if they’re truly ready to go, that might be the best route. The main thing I’m trying to avoid is ending up with extra fretwork. I don’t mind a basic setup, but I don’t want to buy a neck and immediately have to pay for leveling or major work.

On the other hand, I’ve seen a lot of Stratosphere necks on eBay that are taken straight off new guitars. They seem appealing because in theory they’re already broken in, and possibly closer to “plug and play.” But they’re also a little more expensive, so I’m not sure if the extra cost is actually worth it.

If anyone has experience with Fender replacement necks for jaguars specifically, or has gone the Stratosphere route, I’d really appreciate your thoughts

Can someone help me or give me guidance with my guitars wiring

I need help! It first started as just the ground wire being disconnected, and net making noise through the amp, so my friend told me he can solder it back for me , but when he game it back to me he managed to rip out more wires and leave big blobs of solder. What should I do?

3rd fret buzz. Easy fix or take it to a repair shop?

As the title suggests, having fret buzz around the first five frets. Sometimes it's just the third fret, other times it's the first five frets. Either way, it's a pain in the arse. I'm not sure the video will do it any justice.

Now, I am missing my tool bag so I'm short of basic tools to try and attempt this myself. The neck has a bit of a bend in it and the action, further down the neck, is far too high. This was never a problem before and I've had the bass for the last ten years and it's always well looked after.

I will be near a guitar repair shop next week, but I'm in two minds spending £50-£100 if it's a repair I could do myself.

Any tips on how to sort this out?

Many thanks!

Binding finish options: wipe-on polycrylic, spray clear coat, or something else?

The neck on my guitar shrunk a bit, I think from the weather, and the fret endings started to push on the biding, creating little cracks. Generally I would've just left like that, buy in a feel spots I could actually feel it so I sanded a bit on those.

It's smooth now but the spots that I sanded are of course not glossy anymore, so I wanted to apply a finish. I don't know which finish to use. When I do other woodworking I just use a clear coat gloss spray like Rust-Oleum, but I don't know if that works in this case. I know the finish of my guitar is poly, but I also know poly tends to yellow with too many coats, so I thought wipe-on polycrylic would be a good idea.

It's two spots, each of at most 1in. My idea was to tape the rest of the neck off, but I don't mind sanding the whole neck binding if that would be better. It doesn't have to be perfect, and if I screw up I'll learn more and redo it; I like woodworking and it's just my personal guitar anyway, I like having fun with it.

Thank you!

Is this repairable? At home

It's an Epiphone C40 classical guitar from around 1996. It was my moms and she left it in a dry top corner of her closet and my grandparents house, so it was very dry and dusty. Not only that, but either her or her brother restrung it with acoustic steel strings (I've taken them off).

I've already checked and had it taken to a repair shop. They say that the rest of the guitar is alright but it'll still cost around 400 dollars to repair and I'd rather try myself if possible.

The damage is on the bridge, as visible, it kinda broke through the guitar and half of it lifted off. So do any of y'all think it's repairable?

Is this diy fixable?

The crack doesn’t seem to go right through. It’s a Yamaha bbg4s I got off Facebook marketplace for 50 bucks. Strings we still tight on it when I got it and it seems functional so far

Guitar bridge clamp with no holes

My guitar bridge is lifting slightly and I have decided to fix it at home. I was just about to order a bridge clamp when I realized my bridge doesn't have any holes for the bridge to sit. Do they make bridge clamps without holes?

How bad is it?

Taylor gs mini was leaning against my bed and fell onto the floor (carpet) on the low E side. Noticed what looks like a nasty couple of cracks.

Wiring Help Needed (I suck at diagrams)

Just messing around with an old junker and some spare parts, but I'm not sure how to wire up what I want to do: See below for items and my terrible attempt at a diagram.

2x single coil pickups (one bridge, one neck)

2x volume pots

1x tone pot

1x 3 way toggle, SIX TERMINAL (this is what's messing me up I think)

1x jack (of course)

I'm just not sure how I wire in the tone - do I send from the vol pots or send from the switch and then to the jack? idk, I'm not the best with wiring. Here's what I drew and got stuck at.

The terminals on the 3 way toggle switch are just bridged. I don't know if this is right, but I saw a few other schems that did this and figured it must just be what people do with those types of switches.

Weird crunch/buzz noise

Been getting this weird inconsistent crunchy buzzing noise when hitting some notes recently (I don’t think this is fret buzz? It sounds different to me) and I can’t figure out what’s causing it - anybody have this issue before/ know how to troubleshoot? If it’s just fret buzz I’ll delete and go to a luthier but wanted to check here first

Volume knob help

After reading so many hysterical comments on Reddit about removing the plastic from the pickguard on a new guitar, I took the plastic off the pickguard on my new Am Pro II Tele Deluxe. Since Fender couldn’t be bothered to cut a hole around the knobs to make removal easy, I pulled the bridge humbucker volume knob off to get the plastic out from underneath. When I reinstalled it I found it no longer automatically stopped when 1 and 10 are reached. It just spins around and around, to infinity and beyond. At 10 it seems to at full volume, and is basically done after 6-7. To be fair, the neck also seems that way and I didn’t uninstall it. So my questions are:

-Am I such a fucking idiot that I can’t even handle removing the plastic from the pickguard without BREAKING my new guitar?

-Am I a fucking idiot and there’s an easy and obvious fix?

-Do I need to take this in to let the fine folks at Guitar Center repair it or make a warranty claim?

-Do I have the guitar or legends that can be cranked to 11+?

-Is this inconsequential and I should just get back to playing?

Saddle moving - is this normal?

Have been trying to locate a buzz coming when playing G string (both fretted and open) on my Epiphone Casino. Seems to be coming from saddle. The saddle seems to move compared to others. Is this normal?

Worth the repair?

1979 Takamine. Want to play this bad boy. Looking for opinions on repair or just certifying to the wall hanger. Thinking they’re wood seam cracks from failing glue. Cracks from bottom to bridge are a little bit worse. Haven’t gotten inside the sound hole yet but what do you guys think. Frets are lifting a bit but intonation is still good and kept tune until I slacked the strings.
