I was scrolling on Facebook marketplace and saw a working ps3 CECH-4201A Super Slim for $60 and I remember I had jailbroken my Wii U a while back and I might do that with a ps3. I messaged the seller and we might be meeting soon depending on what this post says. Before I commit and buy the ps3 and the HDD I want a few answers. I know there’s CFW and the Hen depending on what version of ps3 you get. At the end of the day. I would like to be able to play ps3 games I (legitimately) own off a usb and maybe the occasional ps2 or ps1 and was wondering is the version of jailbreak matters significantly for what I wish to do to. I know I would have to play off of hen but I’ve been told it incredibly laggy. Is this true or is this by like a unit by unit based. I just wanted to ask around for now before I sink money into this as a collage student looking for smth fun to do during summer.

Hi folks. Long time listener, first time caller. So, I'm trying to install CFW on my PS3, it's the fat boy with 4 USB ports with PS2 compatibility. I'm at the part where it's time to boot the system into safe mode so I can install the Evilhen 4.93, but no matter how many times I try to hold the power button the correct way to get me into safe mode, it doesn't happen.

The closest I get is that sometimes it'll ask me if I want to use the HDMI connection, but when I select yes, it just boots the PS3 as normal after that, and the normal boot won't allow me to install the CFW since 4.93 is already installed.

Any thoughts? I'd hate to give up on this project.

SOLUTION: What I was failing to do that none of the guides really explained in full detail:
If your system is powered on: Hold the power until the system turns off. Release the button. Hold the power until the system turns on, then beeps, and maybe beeps a few more times before it turns off fully. Once it turns off fully, release the button, hold it again. Very shortly, you should hear a beep, and then the double-beep of safe mode.
If your system is not powered on: Hold the power button until the system turns on, then beeps, then beeps maybe a few more times before it turns off fully. Once it turns off fully, release the button, hold it again. Very shortly, you should hear a beep, and then the double-beep of safe mode.

Basically, I didn't realize that the system had to do one full power cycle before you could enter safe mode. I thought I could enter it directly from powered off state, which is not the case. The full power cycle was the key that I was missing. Once you make it into safe mode, you'll be able to install your 4.93 CFW over the 4.93 OFW.

Okay, 1st off.... I'm an idiot. Now that that's out of the way, I turned on my PS3 Slim model CECH-2001B after a couple of months to jailbreak it because I'm tired of buying games at prices that make me contemplate the pros and cons of taking out a second mortgage on my home. Like the idiot I am, however, I decided that it would be a good idea to back up all of my save data to the damn PS+ cloud before doing so, and updated my damn firmware to 4.93 in order to do so. I hear that there's an alternative method to waiting until PS3Toolset is updated to install CFW onto my system, I believe involving Evilnat, and I am in need of an extremely kind and good-willed Samaritan to give me a detailed step-by-step guide on how to properly install the needed data to do so. I'm definitely going to need said Samaritan to break this down for me as they would to an educated 4th grader based on the fact that I spent nearly 4 hours trying other methods without realizing that I had to format the USB stick I was using to FAT32 instead of exFAT...... Can anyone help?

Basically the title, I am trying to install CFW and PS3Xploit flash writer says "You cannot use this tool because you have already installed CFW!" I then tried to install EvilNAT 4.93 through safe mode but it says that the data is corrupted. Where do I go from here? My only goal is to install Movian because getting anime subs to work with Universal Media Server and the built-in streamer is proving to be difficult. Is there an easier way? The only requirement is anime with subs that work. If i can do that without even hacking that would work too.

I found a ps3 on 4.55 with playstation home and I believe it has not got cfw yet any ideas on best procedure? Is playstation home still in need of files? Is 4.55 worth keeping or should I update I'm going to install cfw on one of these which would you suggest and what's the actual procedure for 2026? Thanks in advance!

When ps3 controller doesnt work and I have to use ps4 one but ps3 doesn't support that

Just tonight did I re-cfw my ps3 after updating to 4.93 and decided to go with multiman over managunz not knowing that you can download games DIRECTLY FROM BREWOLOGY on the ps3 and I’m actually mad I didn’t use multiman before😡

So I haven’t turned on my PS3 in quite some time, found out I was still at 4.89 and was looking to update to 4.93 to start preparing for playing some brand new Blu Rays. I installed PS3UPDAT.PUP from PSX-Place, put it into my thumb drive (which was formatted to FAT32) and my PS3 still didn’t pick it up. When I selected “Update via Storage Media”, I got a notice that reads “No applicable update data was found.” I haven’t done this in awhile so the details are a bit hazy.

I have a 40GB Toshiba HDD from an old PS3 I had a while ago. Somehow the console broke down and was thrown out. I was wondering if without the original console if I could decrypt the drive from the original key and it and use a new key from a new console to use that drive instead

I tried to install HEN on my ps3 super slim (CECH-4204A) on version 4.93 but after preparing my pendrive and plugging It into my ps3 I can see It in photos, music and videos but in system update I see only "No applicable update data was found". I tried to install It in recovery mode but after instalation ends nothing changes.

I was doing following a ps3 hen tutorial and I'm stuck on the multiMAN part. It just showing a black screen and I don't know its safe or not to turn off the console and try again?
