RDR1

Has anyone achieved 100% completion in RDRI? Do you have to complete the "I Know You"? Is it important for reaching 100% or not? I'm at 99.2%. I need help

My Outfit Concept: Frontier Gentleman

Dear Red-Dead Fans,

I've recently created a pretty cool outfit which could be a concept for a RDR1 Outfit, or even a concept for a possible outfit in RDR3! I thought that the outfit could make it possible to cheat at Liar's Dice, because I really loved that mini game. I ain't sure if you got free rides in RDR 1 tho...
(- AND NO! this ain’t AI-made, I made the outfit myself, but the cover I uploaded before was AI, because I couldn’t do it myself)

Let me know what you think of the outfit, if you will recreate it and if you'd appreciate the outfit to be in a possible next part of the Red Dead Redemption Series. I hope you can help me!

I'll list what you need for the outfit below:
- Legendary Alligator Gambler's Hat
- Legendary Alligator Vest
- Everyday Shirt (White)
- Ranch Pants (Brown)
- Legendary Alligator Fowlers
- Gerden Spurs
- Puff Tie (Yellow-brown)
- Gun Belts of John
- Legend of the East Satchel

Have a great day and let me know about your opinion!
I have some more cool outfits I’ll post the next days and I‘d appreciate feedback and of course I appreciate people that recreate this!

red dead quote of the day

We can't always fight nature, John. We can't fight change. We can't fight gravity. We can't fight nothing. My whole life, all I ever did was fight.

But I can't give up, neither. I can't fight my own nature. That's the paradox, John. You see?

When I'm gone, they'll just find another monster. They have to, because they have to justify their wages. That's their business.

Our times passed, John

I have a story but no one believes me.

Alright so I had just started the game and was doing missions with Bonnie, I think some cow or horse catching around the ranch and train tracks, I finished the mission as normal and got a cutscene to end it. The game autosaved, I was tryna get the missions out the way so I waited a while afk for another mission to spawn but nothing happened… I was bored and decided to roam the lands until I got a mission. I went to Blackwater to see if there’s anything fun I could do there. I left bonnie’s ranch when it day and arrived at Blackwater just as evening started, I rode around and found no npcs, I thought maybe they haven’t spawned and I gotta leave and come back. I went halfway to john’s ranch then came back and still no one… as I entered town again I heard footsteps that I just thought were horse hoofs, after 5 secs I stopped in the middle of town and still heard footsteps but nothing was moving.. I felt creeped out so I got off my horse and ran in the saloon to see it’d stop, the sound got closer so I ran upstairs to see what it looked like since it was my first time playing rdr1 and cuz I was tryna escape the footsteps running at me…. I went up and saw nothing interesting but heard the footsteps on stone turn to footsteps on wood. I went to hide in the bedroom upstairs and crossed behind the bed, I aimed my revolver at the door so If anything came in I could shoot it… I heard the foot steps come upstairs and stop right next to the door. I sat there for 5 mins waiting for smth to shoot but nothing happened… I got bored so I decided to leave, full of fear I ran out the bedroom and downstairs to my horse… I didn’t hear any footsteps that weren’t johns but I still rode off fast, right as I got to Bonnie’s ranch my mum told me I had to eat dinner so I put on rdr1 YouTube vids in hopes to find someone talk about a glitch where there’s no npcs nut still footsteps but found nothing like that… that was my first time playing rdr1, every time I’ve played since nothing like that has happened, I’ve only experienced normal gameplay since. Idk why or how or what happened but i was spooked. It happened a 2 or 3 years ago and I’m sure it was real.

Writing a possible RDR3 plot

I'm thinking maybe a prequel that shows the Van Der Linde forming and it ends with the Blackwater robbery. I want to soyface when it plays out exactly like they describe it in RDR2.

RDR1 Overall

I’ve mapped out the average player rating for each chapter of RDR. Do you agree with the drop in hype during the Mexico section?

Which stranger missions do you think John canonically does?

I always tought John probably does "I Know You" the Jenny missions and maybe the first part of California while Jack does "Who are you to judge" and probably all of the others.

What carachter does what in your opinion?

I played RDR1.... I did not like RDR2

RDR2's beginning is sluggish, a bit of a bore and a grind, the missions I did not like... constantly losing saves from lack of automatic save, the controls felt slow, the actors were kinda annoying sometimes making fun of Arthur, etc. going into and out of buildings felt awkward, etc.

RDR1 is a REAL Western. Things are kinda fast paced, my character moves the way the way I want it to move, and opening act pushes you right into the action and is fun!

Discrepancies in John's character from RDR1 to RDR2

I've tried to post this in the main Red Dead Redemption subreddit but it kept getting removed so I thought I'd just leave it here:

I’ll start off by saying that there’s no doubt that Red Dead Redemption 2 is a great game. However, one of the many things I take issue with is its portrayal of the first game’s protagonist, John Marston. In rdr2, John is basically a bumbling oaf and, at times, a literal punching bag for the other gang members. He’s in constant need of rescuing and essentially just a loser all round. He possesses none of the wit, charm or intellect he has in the rdr1. He’s basically not even the same character and he more closely resembles Bill Williamson in personality.

I’ve scrolled through some threads on this topic and a common rebuttal I’ve seen is that John acts this way because he wasn’t yet mature. I understand why people say this but it completely contradicts with descriptions of his youth from the first game. Bill talks about how John always had a way with words, something which isn’t seen in rdr2. He also implies that John was Dutch’s right hand man in a way. Dutch says something about how John was always a romantic in the bank robbery mission. These qualities just aren’t displayed in the second game.

John also often talks about how he was this violent revolutionary with this twisted idea that his life of crime helped ordinary people. Correct me if I’m wrong but as I remember it, none of that belief system is shown in the second game. I feel like he wouldn’t abandon the gang for a whole year otherwise. The game doesn’t really do enough to show the rage and brutality that plagued John in his earlier days. In rdr1, he threatens Abraham Reyes, saying “I’ll show you the man I used to be.” According to the second game the man he used to be is some uncharismatic idiot.

I feel like it’s more likely that John got his wit, charm and beliefs from Dutch and his philosophy, rather than his time spent ranching in the middle of nowhere with an elderly drunk, his illiterate wife and a young child for company.

Also, John is 26 years old in rdr2. Think about how quickly people had to develop back then. His father died in a barfight, orphaning him at age 6. He was almost lynched at age 10. By 1899, he’d spent over a decade robbing and murdering people. He wasn’t some kid. He was a hardened outlaw.

It seems to me that John’s qualities were removed from him so as to not upstage Arthur. It’s makes me kind of sad to think about how they destroyed one of the most iconic characters in gaming history. The fact that rockstar didn’t even bother with his character model in the epilogue makes me think that they didn’t care about John at all. And the fact that many people, on this subreddit and beyond, hate playing as him is genuinely a tragedy.
