midyear journal update!
with 2026 halfway through, i figured i’d share my progress plus the spreads i did for the books i’ve read so far! ☺️
June is a wrap!
Working on weirder books for July, this trended a little too proper historical fiction for me last month.
Just Starting
Hello!
I just got a bullet journal (the Leuchtturm1917 A5). I have some stencils coming in the mail. I was wondering though what pens, highlighters, and/or markers may be recommended to use. I’ve never really journaled and am trying to get started. Any other tips would be appreciated too! Thank you! 😊

Reading more because of journal
In the past couple of years I’ve been reading on and off, usually averaging 20 books a year. But since I’ve started this journal in January, I’ve already read 47 books!! Though half of them are audiobooks, which technically
might not count?? But I totally didn’t anticipate this and now I have to come up with creative ways of creating more space in my journal.
Has journaling motivated your reading habits?
“Footsteps in the Dark” book journal spread
Another book finished for #bigbooksummer ! I really enjoyed this book, its mystery, and its characters. Felt almost like a mixture of an Alfred Hitchcock and a Nancy Drew mystery to me. Another enjoyable Georgette Heyer mystery.

Started a reading journal this year and I am really enjoying it.
*Warning potential book spoilers if you read what I wrote on the pages.*
I've finally gotten back into reading for fun after finishing college and I thought a reading journal could be fun. This a few pages I've done recently. Also please forgive any spelling or grammar mistakes I usually make my journal entries when I get out of work at 2am.
“Red River” book journal spread
Only took me forever, but I finally put the finishing touches on my book journal spread for “Red River”.
I thought I planned for enough space for what I wanted to say, but still end up having to squeeze in my last couple of words by the end of the second page!
Pictures are sourced from various covers from different editions of this book and from screen shots from the classic movie with John Wayne and Montgomery Clift.

“The Mysterious Mr. Badman” book journal spread
This was my first time reading a W.F. Harvey book. I’m really enjoying this little sub-genre of bibliomystery within the larger genre of golden age mysteries.
What I particularly enjoyed about this specific bibliomystery is that the book at the center of the mystery is actually a real book that exists in the real world. “The Life and Death of Mr. Badman” was written by John Bunyan, the author of “The Pilgrim’s Progress”. So, of course, as using pictures from a couple of covers for “The Mysterious Mr. Badman”, I couldn’t resist adding artwork from “The Life and Death of Mr. Badman”.
This was a very enjoyable read and a fun book journal spread to put together.
