Beginner advice?

Any tips for a beginner who has a hard time committing to reading and journaling? I have horrible ADHD and my attention span is not great, but I want to get back into reading again so badly.

For regular journals, I've found that interstitial journaling works for me. Decorating the pages with anything except doodles is just too much work, so I'd prefer simple tips surrounding organization or set-up of the journal itself.

Also, annotating books: Yes or No? I'm always afraid I'll mess something up so I keep my books pristine, but I'm kind of considering changing that up and annotating them.

[28/NB] First pen pal!

EDIT: I've found a pen pal! Thank you to everyone who DMed [:

Hi there! To start off, I'm a butch lesbian in the Southeastern US. I'm looking for other lesbians, preferrably around my age group and also in the US, who would potentially like to be pen pals! Here's a little bit about me:

I love all things artsy; drawing, painting, jewelry making, photography, scrapbooking, bookbinding, etc. But my favorite type of art is creative writing! I love to write and I'm working on a short story collection currently.

I love stationery, and I also love sending surprises. So I'd love if my pen pal was also into stationery and surprises! We could exchange stationery/stickers/cool rocks/trinkets!

Some other things I enjoy are music (emphasis on music, I LOVE almost anything), Dungeons and Dragons (I'm a GM currently), light PC gaming, tarot, high fantasy, and sci-fi. Recently I've gotten into going out in nature more and I'm finding that I REALLY enjoy it.

Also, absolutely NO genAI. I'm heavily anti-AI and will not tolerate it.

Feel free to comment or shoot me a DM if you're interested!

Books that are easy to read?

Looking for some recommendations that are fairly easy to read and keep you engaged. I haven't properly read a book in ages and I want to get back into reading. Partially to help improve my writing, but mostly for fun! With ADHD, it's hard to stay focused on reading while I'm doing it. It's frustrating.

I tried to read Gideon the Ninth for a while and the writing is almost too good that it makes it hard for me to read atm. My dad recommended the Chronicles of Prydain to me, which is proving much easier to read, probably because its a YA series. I'm still trudging along slowly though.

I mostly go for Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Lesbian or Sapphic romance, but I'm open to other recommendations. Thanks in advance!

How to make dialogue and conversations flow well?

Hey all! Needing some advice on writing dialogue? I wrote my first short story a while back. There was a little bit of dialogue, but it was mostly commentary/internal thoughts of the MC. Not a big deal.

I'm writing my second short story now, though, and I'm finding it difficult to balance the dialogue itself and the descriptors that follow. How do you make conversations between characters flow well, especially with multiple characters at once? How do you not add too much "flavor text" alongside the dialogue? Thanks in advance!

Loneliness

Does anyone else get pretty lonely as a butch? I don't have any other butch friends irl. I've tried to connect with other lesbians in my area but they're all kind of like a high school clique, which is stupid and sucks. The friends I have are queer, wonderful, and so, so supportive, but they're also non-lesbians who are very male-centered and I'm just... not, lol. It makes me feel super alienated sometimes, and I know my friends just don't know/understand, but it still hurts. Living in the Southern US where it's already hard to find other lesbians just really sucks sometimes /:
