Thanksgiving break

I noticed that parents weekend is just before Thanksgiving, and that students only have Thursday and Friday off for Thanksgiving break. Do many freshman choose to stay on campus for the break, and are there fun things to do?

I am accusing Reed of Islamophobia, please see my evidence.

Hello friends and family,

I have posted into your reddit a few times in the past week or two. I noticed something peculiar happened during my last post. Please let me explain!

My last post was up for over 48 hours. I'm sure the mods saw it. They removed it from your view in a HURRY the second I quoted the Quran in the comments. This happened 2 days after I had originally posted. That comment was up for less than an hour before they removed the whole post.

Are we not allowed to preach about Prophet Mohammad at reed?

This is EXTREMELY ISLAMOPHOBIC BEHAVIOR.

" In response to these pressures and campus climate concerns, the administration established the Presidential Council on Campus Climate and updated its core values to explicitly condemn both Islamophobia and antisemitism, offering expanded resources to protect and support Muslim students. "

If the mods of this reddit aren't officially affiliated with the college. You all might want to make a new reed college group that doesn't have ISLAMOPHOBIC MODS.

Reed was explicitly founded to be FREE of any major religious rules or oppression.

P.s. It's my birthday on the 27th. Shall we dance in the amphitheater together? All Christians, Jews, Buddhists, and especially MUSLIMS are invited!

Why are hypocrites so afraid of these Quran verses? It really scares them, huh?

Rule 2 Reminder.

Folks, a reminder that rule 2, posts must be relevant to Reed College, is in effect. And no you cannot circumvent the rule by starting and argument with someone and then claiming that all of Reed College is guilty of having that opinion.

Three classes freshman year

I’ve heard it’s advised to take only 3 classes each semester for your freshman year to ease into the pace, and because Hum 110 can be time consuming. Have any of you current or past students taken 4? If so, what was your major and was it manageable? And for those that took 3, did you enroll in 4 and then choose the one to drop later? Thanks

Virtue as a mean = The Middle Way. (The Eightfold Path for Stoics).

I can now officially confirm that Lord Buddha and Lord Aristotelēs taught the SAME path to Enlightenment!!!! This is the greatest "good!"

Virtue as a mean = The Middle way:

  1. Right view = Phronesis

  2. Right thought = Prohairesis

  3. Right speech = Aletheia (truthfulness) + Eunoia (Goodwill) + Sophrosyne (self-restraint)

  4. Right action = Andreia (courage) + Praxis (actions of deliberate desire)

Right action is a product of steps 1, 2 and 3.

  1. Right livelihood = Diakaiosyne (justice)

  2. Right effort= (Askesis: preventing and abandoning) + (Ethismos: cultivating and maintaining.)

  3. Right mindfulness = Sophrosyne (reflection) + nepsis (watchful vigilance)

  4. Right concentration = EUDAIMONIA = The state of AWARENESS and COMPASSION attained by Lord Buddha, Lord Aristotelēs, and Lord Christ.

With love and embrace,

The Dharmapalalama

Om Shanti L'chaim, I and I, Amen

P.s:

i will work for your college as a security guard. Please ask them to hire the Dharmapalalama? I live close by!! I heard from a source there will be one open position for a security gaurd in a few weeks.

I will use my lunch break to walk my 13 year old dog. I will be a virtuous security guard. I will protect the people!

P.s.s:

I hearby command Stoics, Christians and Buddhists to intermarry!

This is the Truth and the Life.

This is the Path and the Way.

This is the Eye and the Light.

Transferring in the fall but have some concerns

I am planning on transferring into Reed this fall but as i've been looking more and more into the school some concerns have popped up, that hopefully some current students can help me get a better understanding.

I am transferring in from cc as a sophomore but I will be 23 coming in.

My first concern is that I'll have more trouble finding a good group of friends, because i'm coming in as a transfer so other new students will mostly be 18/19 year olds, i'm a bit worried that I will feel more like a 'big sister' rather then a peer (my most recent job i was working with a lot of 17-19 year olds and felt super old and very 'big sister' lol). I'm also a bit worried because i've seen a few posts saying that there's somewhat a high school vibe (bullying, petty drama, etc.) because of how small the school is, and being 23 and having been out of high school for a long time I don't necessarily want to be back in that environment.

So are there a good amount of older transfers? is there a lot of interaction between under and upperclassmen? do you feel that there is that high school feeling?

My other concern is coming from a cc, even though i did very well and i do have a very strong work ethic, i am a bit worried that cc didn't exactly prepare me for the amount of work expected at Reed. I wanted a school that would challenge me, but whats concerning me is the comments i see about mental health issues and drug abuse from the stress.

Are there any cc transfers who can tell me what sort of experience they had (academically and/or socially)? Are professors understanding? And what support does Reed offer transfer students?

Thank you in advance, and if there are any other things about Reed that you love or hate I would love to hear!
