Is Reed fun?

from what I’ve heard about reed it seems like it’s a school that’s full of a lot of really cool people and a school that has a cool countercultural vibe. Plus it’s in Portland, a pretty artsy and progressive city. But I’ve also heard that it has really intense and rigorous academics that require like all your time and effort. is there a real trade off there? do people value their classes more than their social lives? or is there still room for cool adventures, outings, and getting to know people?

(again, I’ve never visited the college or talked to anyone who goes there, this is all just from reading stuff online)

The new album genuinely sounds AI

are we serious here guys? we have to be joking right? I started listening to Dea Matrona a few years ago, right around when For Your Sins started rolling out. Fucking loved that album and I really felt like I had found a hidden gem. I don’t think there’s a skip, and it sounds unique. As soon as hate that I care cane out though I knew this new album was gonna be fucking trash. Shit actually sounds like a robot made it. “Darker, grittier feeling” my ass this just sounds like a corporate emo bop. Every time the vocals kick in I want to shoot myself, the lyrics are completely uninspiring, the drums sound so bland and rhythmically uninteresting but like at the same time like they really think they’re cooking. And the guitars!! They actually sound like the “hard rock” preset demo on a toy keyboard. There is nothing in this world more derivative than that fucking guitar sound makes me want to cut my ears off. Dea Matrona went instantly from cool indie vibes to genuine coworker music. How??? What happened? I genuinely don’t think I’ve ever heard an album with less going on than this one. Absolutley nothing going on with the vocals, lyrics, instrumentation or production. sounds like a robot made it. Is this just me? Because I swear nobody else thinks the same way and it’s driving me NUTS.

sorry to anyone who actually likes this shit.

On one hand they can find their niche and reach true fans easier… on the other hand no one fits into a larger network of cultural significance anymore. I feel like in general no monoculture is worse for fans, we lack any sort of meaningful, cohesive world where things actually matter and we all know what’s happening. But which do you think is better for the artists and creators—a cohesive system driven by mega rich record labels that’s harder to break into but much more meaningful when you do, or an atomized system driven by robot algorithms that‘s easier to go viral in but worse to make art once you do?

listen, I’m not trying to make anyone mad, I’m as pissed about the whole psy op situation as anyone else, but it does sorta seem like people are latching on to this one wired article blindly. Getting Killed absolutely had a lighting fast rise to fame, but music history is filled with situations that are reallly really similar. There are plenty of bands who worked hard for years in return for a lucky break, bands like Nirvana, Led Zeppelin, Jimmy Eat World, and even the Beatles following the Ed Sullivan show. You don’t have to like any of these people’s music, you even be pissed that you’re hearing it so often, but that doesn’t mean that these people didn‘t work hard for their success or that they don’t deserve it. When I think of industry plants I think of people that truly came out of nowhere, people like Billie Eilish or ice spice. Geese had two unsuccessful albums prior to GK, one that was arguably pretty bad. If they were really full ride industry plants from the start why aren’t we having this conversation about projector? 3d country? People have to stop pretending like an overnight success isn‘t something that happens regularly in music, and they have to be able to differentiate that from an industry plant.

wait, you guys think that all the people spreading insane geese hate rn are the same sorta bots that carried out the psy op? I’m kinda starting to believe this more and more

absolutely locked in on all 3 presales but ate shit each time. pretty much defeated and depressed at this point, but I’m still going to try again tomorrow during the general onsale. what’s the deal with that? Is it going to be easier or way harder? how many spots are going on sale compared to the presales? is it all over or is this the final stretch?

god I hate this
