PS4 PORTAL EDITION - CONCEPT

https://preview.redd.it/1tez0cz6k8kh1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c6d4cd3e1eed6b18e278abc6358f4fffdd7bf2d9

Concept / Fan Art

I made a PS4 Portal.

Real Portal is PS5 only, useless if you're still on PS4. So I designed one that actually works for us.

  • Split DualShock 4, not DualSense
  • Detachable like joycons but PS4 style, light bar, touchpad, Share/Options still there
  • 8 inch screen with PS4 UI, not PS5
  • Jet black, blue glow on the sides

Top pic is it assembled. Bottom is both DS4 halves detached.

Sony ignoring 100M+ PS4 users is dumb. This would sell.

Would you cop if they dropped this?

reddit.com

I want to know if I can play PS5 games on my phone using Remote Play with any third-party controller, or if it only works with the PS5 controller or Sony’s officially licensed controllers.

Remote play is awesome

So about 4 months ago I was on the ropes about getting a portal when my friend told me to just use my iPad with a controller with the remote play app and I’d be good. I was skeptical until this weekend, when I took my iPad and controller with me on a trip. After getting into the hotel, I signed into the wifi and then into the PlayStation app and loaded up street fighter 6. It was incredible! Basically no lag and the game looked great on my 13 inch iPad. So glad I tried it!

Fix: PS Remote Play 9.0 crashing on Windows (0xc0000005)

The problem: PS Remote Play v9.0.0.2120 crashes immediately on launch or shortly after with an access violation (0xc0000005). Event Viewer shows a .NET Runtime error (Framework v4.0.30319). Reinstalling, repairing .NET Framework, and updating GPU drivers does not help.

The workaround:

  1. Install PS Remote Play 9.0 from Sony's official site: https://remoteplay.dl.playstation.net/remoteplay/module/win/RemotePlayInstaller.exe

  2. Launch the app and log in to your PSN account

  3. Close the app and uninstall 9.0 completely

  4. Download & Install PS Remote Play 8.5.0, but don't start the app (available on Uptodown) https://ps5-remote-play.en.uptodown.com/windows

  5. Download, extract and run the version patcher as administrator:

  1. Done — 8.5 now runs with your saved login session, and Sony's servers think you're on the latest version so no forced update

Credit to @u/xeropresence Who has made the patcher

Why this works:

  • Logging in via 9.0 saves your session/credentials locally
  • 8.5 picks up those credentials and works fine
  • The version patcher spoofs the version number so Sony doesn't force you to update

Important:

  • If you previously added remoteplay.dl.playstation.net to your hosts file to block updates, remove that line before step 1 — otherwise 9.0 can't reach Sony's servers to log in
  • Install 8.5 app before patching
  • Don't start the 8.5 app before patching
  • Run the version patcher as administrator

Still problems?

  • Uninstall PS Remote Play
  • Delete "%localappdata%\Sony Corporation\PS Remote Play" folder
  • Start over from step 1

This is the only working solution I've found.

Edit: Still no fix or acknowledgment from Sony as of Aug 2026

Edit: Thanks everyone for the amazing response! Glad this helped so many of you. And my first post to boot. Hopefully Sony will actually fix this in a future update so we don't need workarounds like this.

Moonlight PS4 Update 1.1.0

Moonlight for PS4 1.1.0 Update

Hey folks,

I ported Moonlight to the PS4. Same idea you already know: stream games from your PC (Sunshine / GameStream) to another screen — except this time that screen is your jailbroken PS4.

Install the pkg, start Sunshine on the PC, pair once with a PIN, and you’re playing PC games on the TV with the DualShock.

Ofifical Post on GBATemp

https://gbatemp.net/threads/moonlight-client.683680/ (pending validation)

(Any Comments you have to do please make it here)

Last time I Post here since improvements from here will be small. So please watch the forum instead.

Download (v1.1.0):
https://github.com/JaimeJimenezG/Moonlight-ps4/releases/tag/v1.1.0

What it does

  • 1080p @ 60 streaming from your PC
  • Hardware decode on the console so it stays smooth
  • Real on-console menu — apps, settings, pairing PIN on screen (no config-file mandatory)
  • DualShock 4 works as you’d expect
  • Optional performance overlay while streaming (FPS + timing stuff) if something feels off
  • Settings live under /data/moonlight/ if you like editing over FTP
  • Some extra tweaks if you want to chase smoother playback — defaults are fine for most people

Out of the box it’s basically: 1080p60, ~20 Mbps, hardware decode on. “Install and play” path.

Quick start

  1. Jailbroken PS4 with GoldHEN (I’ve been testing on 9.00)
  2. Install Moonlight-1.1.0.pkg
  3. Run Sunshine on the PC
  4. Open the app → set your PC IP in Settings
  5. Pair with the on-screen PIN
  6. Pick a game / Desktop and stream

In the menu: L1/R1 switches Apps ↔ Settings. While streaming, OPTIONS + Touchpad (~1s) exits.

Wired PS4 is happier than Wi‑Fi, but Wi‑Fi works.

Notes

Unofficial hobby project — works great on a lot of setups, not pretending it’s perfect. There’s an optional experimental color path that needs an extra plugin + payload; most people can ignore it and stay on the normal path.

Source: https://github.com/JaimeJimenezG/Moonlight-ps4

If you try it, drop firmware, wired/Wi‑Fi, Sunshine version, and how 1080p60 feels. Feedback welcome.

Not affiliated with Moonlight, NVIDIA, or Sony. Jailbroken consoles only.

Fixed remote play - sharing if it helps others

Hi,

Just sharing if this helps others. The connection from my mac (with remoteplay app) to PS5 was working fine for multiple days - UNTIL I restarted my router.

After troubleshooting for many hours (reinstalling PS remote app on macos, rebooting both laptop and PS5)..i did not have any success.

I finally figured out the problem. Basically my laptop had connected to the "5 GHz" SSID of the router but the PS5 had somehow connected to the "2.5 GHz" SSID....and confusingly same SSID was broadcast on both 2.5GHz and 5GHz bands.

So in PS5, in the internet connection settings, i selected the option to "Show 5GHz SSIDs only" and then disconnected from the (2.5GHz) SSID and connected to 5GHz SSID and voila .. it worked.

Interestingly on my macOS laptop i dont see any option to "specifically scan only for 5GHz" (i need to further research if that option is available in macOS somewhere).

PS Portal Remote Play was basically unusable on my Orbi mesh, while cloud streaming was perfect. Firmware update fixed it completely.

I wanted to share this in case someone else runs into the same problem, because I spent way too much time trying to understand what was happening and was getting pretty close to returning my Portal.

I am not a networking expert, so take my explanation of the “why” with a grain of salt. But the before/after difference was dramatic.

My setup:
*Gigabit internet
*Netgear Orbi RBR850 WiFi 6 mesh with two satellites
*PS5 connected via Cat6 Ethernet directly to one of the Orbi satellites
*PS Portal usually used upstairs, connected to another satellite
*Portal connected over 5 GHz

I was trying to play Marathon through Remote Play and the experience was terrible. At the normal 1080p setting, it was playable-ish, but the image looked heavily compressed and full of artifacts.
I then changed the Portal to the newer 1080p High Quality setting. The picture initially looked much better for about 15 seconds, but performance became awful. Constant stuttering, basically unusable, and eventually the Portal would completely lose its connection to my PS5.

What made absolutely no sense to me was that cloud streaming Marathon on the exact same Portal, from the exact same location, looked fantastic. Sharp, high resolution and smooth.
So I started troubleshooting.

First I waited until nobody else in the house was using the network. No difference.

Then I tried Remote Play from my iPhone while lying in the exact same spot in bed. It was perfect. Smooth and high quality.

That really confused me. My PS5 could Remote Play perfectly to my phone through the Orbi network. My Portal could cloud stream perfectly through the Orbi network. But PS5 → Portal Remote Play was garbage.

From there I:

  1. Forgot and reconnected the Portal to WiFi
  2. Completely restarted the Portal
  3. Tried standard vs. 1080p High Quality
4 Tried the Portal through my phone’s hotspot
  4. Created Orbi’s separate IoT network and made it 5 GHz only
  5. Connected the Portal to that network right next to the main Orbi router
  6. Rebooted my modem and entire Orbi system

Nothing fixed it.

Then I noticed something.

My Orbi app said my firmware was up to date, but my RBR850 and satellites were actually running 7.2.8.2. Netgear had a newer 7.2.8.5 firmware available for the RBR850/RBS850, but for whatever reason the automatic firmware checker wasn’t offering it to me.

So I manually downloaded the firmware from Netgear and updated both satellites first, then the RBR850 router.

After everything came back online, I completely powered down the PS5 and Portal. I started the PS5, started the Portal, connected through Remote Play and…

Holy shit. It worked.
1080p High Quality. Sharp. Smooth. No compression mess. No constant stuttering. No disconnect.

I initially tested beside the basement satellite and it was perfect. Then I walked upstairs to my bedroom while playing. There was one tiny hiccup that I assume was the Portal roaming between Orbi satellites, and then it immediately settled down.
I’ve now played multiple rounds of Marathon from bed and it has remained high resolution and super smooth. Basically the same excellent Remote Play experience I was getting from my phone.

So, if you have an Orbi RBR850/RBS850 system and PS Portal Remote Play sucks even though your network should easily be able to handle it, check the actual firmware version on your router AND satellites. Don’t necessarily trust the Orbi app when it says there are no updates available.
In my case:
7.2.8.2 = Portal Remote Play was borderline unusable
7.2.8.5 = Portal Remote Play works beautifully at 1080p High Quality

I can’t tell you exactly what changed under the hood. My best guess is that something in the older Orbi firmware was causing packet loss, jitter, retransmissions, mesh/backhaul weirdness, or some combination that the Portal’s Remote Play implementation really didn’t like.

Interestingly, my iPhone apparently tolerated whatever was happening just fine, which is one of the reasons this was so confusing.

I’m also not claiming 7.2.8.5 is some universal PS Portal fix. I have a sample size of exactly one house and one increasingly frustrated guy.
But the difference here was night and day, and because the Orbi app itself told me I was already up to date, I figured this was worth posting.

Hopefully this saves somebody else a few hours of wondering why a purpose-built Remote Play device is somehow worse at Remote Play than their phone.

PS Remote Play NOT on my MacBook 😭 using mobile data.

Hey everyone,

I’ve been trying to get PS Remote Play working on my MacBook for so long, but I just can’t get it to connect. 😭

My setup:

- PS5

- MacBook Air M4

- Airtel Broadband 100 Mbps

- PS5 connected via Ethernet

- But on my MacBook, it always fails with an 88xxxxx error and says it can’t find/connect to my PS5.

I’ve already tried a lot of things, including changing router settings, static IP on my ps5 but nothing has worked Even change dns 😭

Has anyone with Airtel Broadband had the same issue with PS Remote Play on Mac? Is there something specific I need to change in the Airtel router/network settings?

I’d really appreciate any help because I’ve been trying to fix this for days. 😭🙏

Trying to connect my PS5 to my SteamDeck

I recently found out you can connect I can connect my PS5 to my steam deck by remote after a couple YouTube videos I thought I got the gist of it. Until I ran into this problem where Chiaki would redirect me to a link where I can log into my PS5 account, which I did, however it would redirect me to a black blank screen. Same thing if I go on desktop mode, I’ll login and it will redirect me to a blank white screen. Is there a setting that I forgot to do with the web browser or is that a certain PS5 or steam deck model that will allow I’m stuck at this part please help a brother out.
