Stoner 63, but not quite
Robinson M96 Expeditionary, in the 20" rifle configuration, came with the lock, serialized box, manual, ×2 30 round Colt mags & ×3 20 round Colt mags. The red tag, red factory tag was still installed so presumably I'm the first outside the factory to actually fire the gun.
There are some differences, notably the charging handle being side mounted in an almost FAL style instead of top/bottom mounted like the original guns & the muzzle brake being part of the barrel, unlike the originals which had flash hiders. No bayonet lug and configured to take AR-15 magazines.
The only original part it can use is the buttstock, & maybe the rear sight, which is a shame, especially as though rare, Stoner 63 mags do pop up occassionally and a magwell that let you use them would have been feasible due to the nature of the rifle. The conversion kits in general are also between rare/non-existent.
None of this is a deal breaker, but it feels like missed potential, though seeing how intensive the system is to manufacture, I guess I'll just say we're lucky to have even had these produced at all, and luckier the M96 got the improvements the Expeditionary model included.
Amazing way to have the iconic system without paying the price of a car/down deposit on a house and still extremely happy to have added one. Need a Bren kit for it somewhere down the line. If I ever win the lottery I'll add a real Stoner 63A to keep it company.
Gordy the long way
Also what are vibing with more, the 2000 or the Electronic MKIII?
