Zūm Bus Service

For years, RPS has been using contracted busses to supplement their own service. This year, they dropped their contracts with Sunrise and First Student in favor of a Silicon Valley company called Zūm. Like most tech startups, they seem to be all flash with terrible execution. Which means I can use their sleek new app to monitor just how late every single ride has been.

My kids were 45 minutes late to the first day of school and 15 minutes late the second day. This week, they've thankfully arrived before the bell rings, but with only a few minutes to spare. The afternoon bus isn't even there when school gets out. After all the other busses have loaded up and taken off, the teachers have had to wait with our neighborhood kids at minimum 25 minutes for the Zūm bus to even show up. The first day, it was almost an hour. When it's pickup time and I check the app to see where the bus is, it's clear on the other side of town wrapping up a different route. Even four days in, I can use the app to watch these busses take wrong turns all over town as they ferry my kids to and from school.

I left a message on the Zūm app sharing my concerns and got a notification that I'd hear back within 48 hours. It's now Tuesday and I haven't heard anything. So, like a good Redditor I'm complaining here. This company has clearly stretched themselves too thin and not familiarized themselves with our city's infrastructure. I know busses always have a few hiccups the first couple days, but this is beyond ridiculous.

From a few conversations I've had, it sounds like this is a pretty common experience with Zūm so far. Anyone else having issues with them?

Reputable roofer recommendation

Has anyone had good luck with a roofer around here? We had ours replaced a few years ago and they didn't flash properly around our skylights and we now have several leaks, so we need that fixed. We've talked to a couple people, but one quote was really high, and the other person has been really unreliable, not showing up to appointments or responding when they said they would, which is a dealbreaker for me. Thanks in advance.

For old timers, what was Rockford like when the unemployment rate was over 25%? 1980’s-90’s I think?

Lots of empty storefronts I’m guessing, as a start.

International Market, old Kmart space

Does anyone know if the previously announced international market is still coming to the old Kmart space on East State Street? I believe it was stated in the article I read that the plan was to open before end of year, but it doesn’t look like they’ve even started construction yet. Just curious.

Considering a visit

Dropping our son off to college next weekend and want to take a quick weekend getaway. Rockford is within range and looks nice. Is there enough good food/drink and sights or events to keep us entertained? Reading the sub looks like maybe there’s been a bit of a drop off in amenities. Looking for some honest feedback.

Sushi Grade Fish

Can anyone recommend a place in Rockford where you can buy sushi grade fish for making sushi and sashimi at home? I'm thinking maybe valley produce? But I haven't visited yet.

Looking for daycare services and need some opinions

As the title says, I'm going to need to find a daycare for my son. He is school aged and I need a place where I can drop him off early in the morning to be picked up by his bus and dropped off in the afternoon after school. It's my first time having to do this and I'm really nervous about it. I've been looking at a few places but I want to know if any one has a daycare they recommend in Rockford?

What are some Twitch streamers from Rockford, Illinois that you recommend watching?

I’m looking for streamers who are actually based in or around Rockford. Any size is fine—small creators, up-and-coming streamers, or bigger channels. I mostly watch gaming content, but I’m open to other types of streams too.

From social media: Reports that Halloween will be "De-Flock America" night

On October 31st millions of people are out after dark wearing masks, allowing masked Flock camera-cutters to blend in and work all night.

Remember to keep your cell phones and debit/credit cards at home!!!!

Thinking about moving to Rockford

Hey folks! I’ve been thinking about moving and establishing my forever home with the family. I’m a born and raised Memphian, so Rockford would allow me to escape this humid nightmare and still be close enough to family to visit somewhat conveniently.

I’m 30 have a spouse and some toddlers. They aren’t in school yet but will be soon. I worked in Tech, love a good local beer scene, play games, dnd, and do model building. Having green space is a must, I can’t stand concrete jungles. I already know wherever I go that crime will be much less than where I’m at, so I’m not worried about stats. I know how to avoid the bad parts of towns.

I’m just looking for some brutally honest opinions about Rockford.

We made it into President Curtis!

Rockford made it into the spin-off of Rick and Morty (President Curtis)! And woman was a politician in Chicago, Illinois, so it’s probably safe to assume they were referring to Rockford, Illinois.
