I feel bad for those that dislike Sulfur Surfer

Not even trying to be patronizing or facetious. Imagine waiting 4 years for a new bladee x whitearmor album and it’s not a sound that you enjoy? That has to be a disappointing feeling. Hopefully the next one is with ripsquad or yung sherman! Sorry folks.

He’s really talking his shit on this album

In terms of lyricism it’s def one of his deepest. Best? Very debatable, but i really like it. Dont think it’s in my top 3 but still very enjoyable album, im finding lots of replay value

Getting my tumor removed the same day as Bladee's concert

A bit of the backstory, I got diagnosed with cancer last year. Since then I have received 4x cycles of chemo and now after waiting months for the surgery will have to get the leftover tumor removed that did not react to chemo. Honestly this whole thing does not feel real, of course cancer in general but also having my surgery the same day as Bladee's concert here in Stockholm and him dropping an album the day before truly feels like a blessing. I first discovered Bladee and drain gang through a classmate around 5 years ago and slowly but surely completely fell in love and underwent the typical arc of Bladee becoming one's most listened to artist.

So far I have only been to 2 Bladee concerts which I absolutely loved every second of and today's could have been the third one. If you are reading this and going to see him today or anytime soon please enjoy the concerts for the ones who would love to go but can't due to health or other various issues. Listening to drain gang throughout this journey and in the hospital has helped me so much and brought me true joy. I feel so grateful to be able to listen to this music and be apart of this community.

Love you guys!

Bladee‘s most european album

Consider Stoner where he‘s talking about let‘s end wars and hate and just spread love and save the earth, very eurodance

Also when he‘s snarling on highland tyrant with his accent he sounds exactly like darkthrone.

Anyone else got these vibes?

Really nice detail on the cover

Bladee's board on the Sulfur Surfer cover has an OM symbol on it.

The Dark Mirror might be bladee's best track so far

it’s just perfect man. the first part feels insanely entertaining and catchy, i love all the sounds in the background that create this whole sonic landscape. then it feels like maybe exhaustion catches up with bladee, transitioning into the 2nd part which is just PERFECT.

this track feels incredibly deep and personal, and the whitearmor production on both parts is absolutely mindblowing.

thank you bladee for this masterpiece. great album overall, for me it feels like the dark twin brother of Crest and it’s really beautiful. peace.

My review / opinion on Sulfur Surfer

Just wanted to write it down somewhere eventually, so why not post it here. I wasn't expecting much from this album honestly, because I'm not really into the "darker" side of Bladee. And Blondie lyrics set the bar pretty low for me (particularly for that moment when I thought he said "your ass is so nice", when he actually didn't). But I was instantly surprised right from the start. The very first track sets the tone with Whitearmor's production that sounds unlike anything he made before, and Bladee's vocals and lyrics are exceptionally good there.

Throughout the whole record there's so much going on. Production is complex and layered, almost maximalist at times. Bladee's vocals are very different from one song to another and he's always trying something new here, and lyrically he's at his strongest here. Sometimes he sounds triumphant, sometimes he's at the depths of his despair, sometimes it feels distant, like he detached himself from certain emotions on purpose for the sake of self-protection and looks at certain things not from a human standpoint, but as someone who's above these feelings. Seen too much and felt too much. Maybe I'm reading too deeply into it and seeing things that are not there, but this speaks to me on many levels and my favorite thing about this album. As someone who's previously been at both his lowest and his highest and now left confused and unsure, I haven't felt so deeply seen by someone's music in a long time.

There's also a lot of nods to fantasy / Dungeon Synth / Black Metal stuff throughout this album. I think Sulfur Surfer was heavily inspired by these - Bladee's character on the cover and Bladee on photos from before the release are covered in some kind of a corpse paint, there's a portion of Black Metal-ish screaming across a couple of songs, mystical plucks (like the one towards the end of Blondie, which grew on me), ethereal synths, which is usual for Whitearmor, but there's some genuine non-human feel to them here.

Both Bladee and Whitearmor transcended and outdid themselves on this record, when I was expecting less than average from them, just the "evil" Bladee which I'm not really fond of. Turns out it's so much more than just this. Not every track is equally amazing, but there's a lot of very high highs on this album. It feels "profound" and very personal at times, there's a lot to relate to. Second part of "Scab" touched me as no other song managed in a long time. It's an album from someone who feels lost, abandoned, uncertain about now and tomorrow. Someone who's already matured, experienced both joy and woe, and now burdened by time and questions about one's life choices and regrets. For me, It's the most existential and bittersweet thing Bladee and Whitearmor ever made.

Favorite tracks: Sulfur Surfer, The Dark Mirror, Black Fire, Scab.

Why can't Sulfur Surfer just be Sulfur Surfer?

Why is every post on this sub trying to decide which previous album it sounds like? It's a new sound, just like his previous albums were new sounds. I definitely understand the Spiderr comparisons, but all the other comparisons feel like reaching other than the fact that it's all Bladee music so there's definitely similarities between all of his works due to being from the same artist.

Dg fans had to remember

The fans had to remember that every time bladee drops yall have the same critics and opinions (every song sounds the same, its awfull, doesnt sound like 2014 dg). And look, i dont really want to glaze because even bladee can make bad songs, but common, this album is good, good production, good bars and even is a syorytelling project, what else do yall want? Yall say the same thing about Cold visions, Spiderr, crest, and red light. I hope that bladee dont listen any of his fans and still make the music he loves, its time to grow up people, bladee is not that sad Young guy anymore. For those who really apreciate bladee I hope wall really enjoyed this drop, every drop is special.

How the sulfur surfer intro had me feeling

I HEREBY DECLARE WAR ON THE EVIL STAR, I DEMAND ITS DEFEAT

I AM THE UPHOLDER OF DIVINE LAW, HOLDER OF THE GOLDEN CHAINSAW

WITH THE VIOLENT NIGHT IN MIND I SHALL WITH VIOLENT KINDNESS

CORRECT ALL WRONGS

AND AS IS FATED THE SHIELD SHALL PREVAIL

BECAUSE THIS MISSION IS GUIDED BY INTUITION

TRANSCENDS THE CONCEPT TO FAIL

MAY WE GLIDE THE ABSENCE OF FAILURE ON THE PROTECTION OF ANGELS

AS MY VESSEL EMBODIES THE SAME

I SHALL DESCEND INTO THE DARK MIRROR DETERMINED TO FALL VICTIM

WATCH AS I TRANSCEND TORMENT AGAIN AFTER THE ULTIMATE TRAIL OF THE NIGHT RIDES BACK TOWARDS THE ONE THAT'S IN LIGHT

MIRRORS SHATTER, ILLUSIONS ILLUMINATED

STE IN THE NAME OF DAVID, AMEN
