We bought a family photo today after the Panda exhibit… but there’s a catch.
They offered to take our photo prior to us seeing the panda, and when we left the exhibit they had printed photos in hand offering to sell us.
It was a good photo, it’s a kid’s birthday. Family is in town. We grabbed it. Excited to own it. Perfect scenario.
My curiosity got the best of me as I thought this through in real time and I asked what would happen if we were not interested in purchasing. She said that the photos would be destroyed.
Listen, I’ve had phases in my life where I was a staunch environmentalist. These days it’s more I just live my life in the spirit of my belief system and live and let live. I also want to state, had this been an amusement park or anything like that, I would not have thought twice or batted an eyelash.
That said, it’s not. It is the local zoo who is supposed to be stewards of conservation and environmentalism.
It’s a small thing, but something I truly hope the Zoo will rethink. Stand on business, you don’t need to be wasteful to the obvious detriment of the environment in an effort to extract another $35 out of as many families as you can. Maybe have an iPad or something you can display the photos on and print on demand?
