Restaurants that are "Kitchen Nightmares" worthy?

Obviously, Savannah has some great dining spots that get discussed here regularly.

What are some spots that maybe had potential or thrived at one point, but have gone way downhill due to changes in ownership/menu/chef, are outdated, or otherwise need a refresh?

I’ll miss you over the summer!!!

Thank you to the queen keeping the students safe at 52nd and Skidaway every morning during the school year. You made my (and other drivers) mornings a little brighter with your smile and waves. I hope you have the summer you deserve.

Best/nicest restaurants in Savannah

I am new in town been here for abt a year and the best place I’ve eaten at so far is Chive Sea bar and Lounge (get the mussels) but I’m wondering what other restaurants are great here because I’m planning on taking my parents somewhere good when they come to visit.

Events for lesbians you say?

Hey hey. Recently I read a post about lack of events for lesbians or places to meet/hangout.
So I thought let me put one together. I partnered with Sweet Peach Tattoo shop and would love to see you there.

Date: Friday, May 29
Time: 6:30 pm
Where: Sweet Peach Tattoo Shop

It’s a very casual hang with some cheesy funny bingo cards and fun prizes. I will provide the snacks, you bring your beverages.

This hang is for everyone, singles, couples, bring your ex. It’s $20/pop and I will be donating 50% of tickets sales to ARC Southeast non-profit. The rest just to cover an event costs.

The link to register is here https://forms.gle/7XntT3RQFueSyh8r6 (google form) or on @missedconnectionsav IG acc bio. I just need a head count. I hope I’ll see you there and we’ll have good time!

~ Your ally

P.S. For everyone curious about the name of the event: it’s in reference to Tig Notaro’s and her wife love story. If you know, you know😉

25F Looking for a Room to Rent in Pooler/Georgetown Area

Hi everyone!

I recently accepted a job in the Savannah area and will be relocating soon. I've been looking at apartments, but rent prices are a bit higher than I'd hoped, and I've had limited luck with roommate websites, so I figured I'd try posting here.

I'm a 25-year-old female professional looking for a room to rent or a roommate situation in the Pooler or Georgetown area. I'm clean, responsible, quiet, and respectful of shared spaces. I work full-time and spend most of my time working, studying, or relaxing at home.

Ideally, I'm looking for:
• A private bedroom
• Budget around $700-$900 /month
• Safe neighborhood
• Female roommates preferred

A little about me:
• Full-time professional
• Non-smoker
• Clean and organized
• No parties or drama
• Reliable income

If you have a room available, are looking for a roommate, or know of any good leads in Pooler or Georgetown, please feel free to message me.

Thanks! 😊

Planning a trip for parents, recs?

My parents are in their 60s. They got married on St. Patrick’s day and they’ve always wanted to go down to Savannah for St. Paddy’s weekend. They are from Chicago so they’re familiar with how it goes. I want to gift them a trip for their next anniversary but figured I could start thinking about it to gather recommendations and make it a really great time for them.

They like to drink, go out to eat, outdoors, history, architecture, museums.

  1. Where should I book a place to stay? The historic district looks awesome, just wondering what it’s like during St. Paddy’s weekend. They’d probably want somewhere away from the craziness to go back to but also not far from parks or water.

  2. If the historic district isn’t the place to be for St. Paddy’s weekend, what is public transportation like? Should I make sure they have a car?

  3. Bar/restaurant recommendations? They love relaxed, cheap divey kind of places where you can talk to locals.

  4. Must see/do things for the week leading up to the weekend on a normal day in Savannah?

  5. What is St. Paddy’s weekend usually like? For example, we usually go see the green river in Chicago. What does Savannah do traditionally?

  6. Would love to highlight areas for them to walk through with nice architecture, places to stop, more neighborhood-y.

Thanks!!!

Totally Awesome Bar: The Totally Awesome Update

Hey Savannah 👋

We have seen the threads, the comments, and the theories, so we wanted to come here directly to clear up a few things.

Some of you thought Totally Awesome Bar was gone forever. It is not.

Here is what happened.

The previous owner made the difficult personal decision to close in February. That is her story to tell, not ours, and we truly wish her nothing but the best.

After that, a new ownership group stepped in because we loved this place too much to let it disappear. We worked out a new lease with the landlord and purchased the Totally Awesome Bar name.

We are not turning it into some random new concept. We are not a corporate group coming in to strip the place of everything people loved. We are a local team led by an operator who has owned and run bars, restaurants, and venues in Savannah for more than 10 years.

We know this city. We know how much people care about this bar. And we know Totally Awesome Bar is one of a kind.

So, is it changing?

Not in the way people are worried about.

The soul of Totally Awesome Bar is staying.

✅ Pool tables are staying

✅ The games are staying

✅ Open mic is staying

✅ Karaoke is staying

✅ The programming people loved is staying

What is changing is the stuff that honestly needed love.

We are working on new bathrooms, new stairs, a new stage, a new DJ booth, and upgraded sound and lighting. Same basement bar energy, just cleaner, safer, louder, and better set up for the future.

As far as reopening goes, we are currently working with the city and state licensing as a new entity. It is very much a process, and they are helping us move along quickly. Contractors are in motion, equipment is ordered, and we are moving as quickly as we can.

To the former staff, we see you too.

We are not trying to rebuild this from scratch without the people who helped make it what it was. If you worked here and want to come back, please DM us. You know this place better than anyone, and we would love to talk.

We will keep posting updates as we get closer.

Thanks for caring about this place, Savannah. The fact that people are talking about it this much tells us exactly why it is worth bringing back. 🕹️🎱🎤

how the fuck do i make friends?

Frog fruit?

Good afternoon! My sister in law, a grad student at UGA, is trying to find frog fruit plants for a project related to native lawn alternatives. Does anyone know where she might be able to source a few locally? She is visiting this weekend, and I’d love to be able to help her out. Many thanks! 🌱 💕 ☀️

Contacts for cat rescues?

I’ve been caring for stray cats around my block for some time now. I was able to get a few fixed in the past but a few weeks ago three of the ladies that I wasn’t able to get fixed had litters. At first, I was only able to find four kittens. Now that they’re older and exploring more, I realize there is way more than 4. I think there’s about 8-9 total between the three litters.

I cannot afford to continue caring for all of these babies as much as I would like to keep doing so. There’s five adult cats that hang around (3 of them being the mothers of the latest litters). I also have 4 cats of my own. I would bring all of them inside in a heartbeat if it was up to me but I am not allowed to as it was a helluva fight to keep my four inside.

These are not feral cats. I can pick them up and cuddle them all. They let me interact with their babies. The babies are still a bit scared of me and will hide or freeze when I come out to feed everyone. They are skittish around other people, but I think they could still warm up to other people.

Does anyone have a contact for Renegade or any other cat rescue groups or any resources that could lend some aid? If it were up to me and if money was no issue I would keep every single one. I’m relocating to WA early next year and I know my family will not continue to care for them after I’m gone. They can stay in my backyard until homes are found for them as I fully believe they can all be adopted but I’m pulling at my hair trying to figure out how to continue to care for them all. When I thought there was only 4 new kittens, I was honestly considering relocating all outside kitties with me and turning them into inside cats and getting a nice catio. But now that I see there are double the amount of kittens than I first thought, I know that I will not be able to keep doing this.

Sharing window restoration successes!

Hi all, I wanted to share this stunning transformation we did on three rotted double hung windows! I'm a historic preservation advisor with Austin Historical and these transformations are too beautiful not to share.

Good riddance Earl Leroy Jerome Carter

With him in a solid 3rd place for senate, I'm glad that this clown will be out of government for the near future at least.
