Hello, I have a job interview at the end of the month for a position that is highly attractive. However, it would call for relocation to this area from a smallish Indiana city. I have a wife and 2 young children, with a 3rd on the way. Looking for overall insight into the area, including schools and family life. What is your favorite and worst thing about the area? Thanks in advance for all information!

I wanted to share my experience today as a warning to others.

Earlier today, I made a purchase at XIMI V, located on the lower level beneath the food court at Woodfield Mall, using a brand-new credit card. This was the very first and only transaction I had authorized on this card, and I did not shop at any other stores. A few hours later, after returning home, I started receiving notifications about additional charges being made at other stores that I had never visited or authorized.

What makes this especially concerning is that the card was brand new had only been used once and was physically inserted into the card reader during my purchase.

I have already contacted my bank and Woodfield Mall security to report the situation.
I’m sharing this to remind everyone to enable transaction alerts and keep a close eye on their credit card activity. Unauthorized charges can happen when you least expect them.
I’m not making any accusations or suggesting that the store was directly involved, but given the circumstances, I felt it was important to share my experience so others can be cautious.

Hey Schaumburgers --- Here is a local scoop on our village. Last month was one of those months where much happened in our Village, but little worth mentioning. If announcements appear on their weekly newsletter, I generally do not include those in here. If more news is of interest, there is a link at the bottom where you can subscribe to the Village's newsletter(s), particularly their "Progress Report".

If you're new and curious to know what this is, dig back through this subreddit until you find my post from May 2025.

Short version: these are bite-sized updates on things generally not reported by the local paper, Facebook groups, and other sources of news.

Woodfield Office to Residential Conversion: the project was supposed to begin in the fall of 2025, but has stalled due to financing.

Non-chain restaurants: FY 25/26, the village lost seven non-chain restaurants:

• El Mero Mero, Eggmania
• Naatu Indian Restaurant
• Kathiyawadi King
• New Freezeland Restaurant
• Turmerica
• Pita & Kabobz.

However, 11 new non-chain restaursnts opened:

• Hopscotch
• IMLI Indian Restaurant
• Asadero Rotisserie Chicken
• Ba Le Sandwiches
• Biryani Baithak
• Indiyaana
• Thiru Kuppusamy
• Saucy
• Dum N Grill
• Junction Indian Street Food
• Flaming Wings

The Village has a total of 99 non-chain restaurants, up from 78 in FY 19/20.

Coffee with the Council:

• a resident shared concerns regarding automated license plate reader’s (ALPRs) being utilized across the US, including within the Village. As it is shared with data brokers, insurance companies, and immigration agencies, there was concern it puts residents at risk of being under mass surveillance. Police Commander Kaminski confirmed info is shared with Harper Community College, Roosevelt University and other agencies with law enforcement ability and the village does not share info with the federal government, taking access very seriously. Only a limited number of employees with special training can access information and the system doesn’t retain records, rather purges the information every 30 days unless there is evidence found pertaining to a specific case with ongoing investigations.

Two trustees stated information is only shared with agencies during active investigations and have found success in catching thieves in the Woodfield area and car dealerships using ALPR’s, sharing two specific examples with the group (examples not included in the minutes).

• A resident mentioned the house at 218 W. Schaumburg Road (purchased by the village) should have a fence around it to deter squatters. A trustee stated the house will be demolished soon.

Schaumburg Business Development Association:

• This committee meets monthly to discuss economic development issues, get updates on things affecting the business community, feature businesses, retention programs for businesses, educate the community and contribute to business-decisions being made in Schaumburg.
• The Fresh Market grocery store is expected to be roughly the size of a Trader Joe’s. Apartments from the adjacent residential building are expected to be leasing at the end of 2026, with the first move-ins beginning in Spring 2027.
• Experior Transport (logistics company with lots of trucks parked close the Metra station near Rodenburg Rd) sold to Logistics Property Co (LPC), the company currently redeveloping the 20 Long Ave properties that were recently demolished for new development. LPC plans to redevelop the Experior lot with modern industrial facilities (i.e. warehouses) and other improvements. The Village has agreed to grant them a Class 6B tax incentive, reducing property assessment of 10% for first 10 yrs, 15% in year 11, 20% in year 12.
