CX500 Scrambler - Project Completed

After 6 years of working on it on and off (at a point I had stopped completely for about 2.5 years as I had picked up sport climbing. ADHD all or nothing hobby syndrome). Lots of custom work done, everything designed and fabricated by myself, quite a few parts CNCed from billet aluminium. Many parts also printed out of SLS nylon. Full rewire, motogadget, chrono classic 2 gauge, ignitec spark ecu, rae san hall sensor, custome seadoo COP conversion. Fork from an 03 CBR600RR, discs from a Ducati 749, calipers from a Ducati monster 696...anyway no expenses spared build. Some more stuff I posted on Instagram: CX500 Build

Which Scrambler to get..

Hi everyone,

I’m looking to buy my first motorcycle and have decided on a Scrambler model, as the thought of being able to go a bit off-road when driving on backroads appeals to me. I’ll be driving the bike just for fun rides, not to commute or anything.

I just can’t decide on what bike to get out of these 3 options:

  1. Triumph Scrambler 900 - my initial choice. Love the sound of the parallel twin. The thing is, I’d have to customize this bike a lot to make it look how I want it to look (more sporty and modern). I’ve attached an image here of a customized version that I love, but that’s easily €6.000 in customization costs alone. They’re hard to find used in my country (I’d ideally want a used 2022 model for max. €9000). So unless I can find one, this would quickly become very expensive as I’d have to buy a new bike + get the customizations.

  2. Ducati Scrambler Nightshift (2025 model) - Visually, this is a lot more aligned with the way I want it to look. I wouldn’t have to do any customizations. And there are good used options available for €9000 who’ve already had the majority of their depreciation. I’ve sat on it in the showroom yesterday, loved it but it does feel like a very small, thin bike? I’m no big dude but still. Might be good for a first bike though?

  3. BMW R Nine T Scrambler - Beautiful bike as well, different style of course, but very nice. Can get a used 2017 one for around €13.000. Just thinking it’s a lot heavier and maybe not as playful, and maybe not ideal for a beginner? I don’t know.

What questions should I be asking myself to decide which one to get. Is anyone familiar with these bikes that’s able to weigh in on the differences between them, which is the better buy, etc? Is there any other bike that looks a lot more like my 'ideal bike' out of the box that I'm missing? Thanks a lot!
