Switching Schools + OSAP (advice needed and questions) pls help!

Hey everyone!

I'm an undergraduate student who originally accepted my OCAD University offer for Industrial Design. After doing more research, I realized Sheridan's Industrial Design program seems like a much better fit for me, so I decided I want to switch.
The problem is that I had already declined Sheridan's offer when I accepted OCAD's. And it’s already the first month of summer break. A couple of days ago, I called Sheridan because I noticed that on the Ontario Colleges portal, my offer still said **"May still take offers after May 1st."**They told me to accept it, which I did, and they said to wait for further emails.

Right now, I'm just not sure how I can confirm that I'm officially going to Sheridan this fall. I haven't received a confirmation yet, although Sheridan has already emailed me about paying tuition and the admission fee.

I'm also confused about OSAP. I already applied for OSAP with OCAD. If I end up attending Sheridan instead, do I need to cancel my OCAD OSAP application and submit a new one for Sheridan? Or can it be updated? I don't want my funding to go to the wrong school.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? If so, what did you do, and how did everything turn out?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Aspiring to be an animation student in Sheridan but…(Questions from a guy living in Quebec (v.v.v desperate))

Background info before the questions

Read only the bolded part if you want to get straight to the questions

I live in Quebec (with a Quebec PR card). Quebec has a system called “cegep”/“pre-university” where instead of grade 12, we have to do 2-3 years of this “pre-university” to apply for university in Quebec. I’m currently in my first year going into second and my grades are not looking good (I failed humanities and had to do summer courses that ended last week). I didn’t really try during my first year because I didn’t have a goal. I was absolutely demotivated, alive but not living my life if that makes sense. In my first year, I failed all 2 of my humanities courses with one being 17% and one being in the 20%... From this alone, you can tell I was an absolute wreck (skipping classes, sleeping in, rotting in bed). During summer (before summer classes), a close friend (who got accepted to Sheridan) introduced me to the school. In a long time, I felt passionate and determined as if the path I was walking was in complete darkness and someone just turned on the lights. it motivated me so much that I began genuinely trying my best and got a 90’s in my summer humanities course. I will most definitely lock in during the upcoming year and hopefully get a high 80’s or low 90’s for all my courses.

Now here’s the questions

1- Quebec cegep requires you to take French courses and French exit exam to graduate and apply for universities inside of Quebec. Now Sheridan is outside of Quebec therefore I have heard that Quebec students only need to do first year in cegep and go straight to Sheridan (if accepted). I’m going into my second year and haven’t taken any French courses yet or the French exit exam but French isn’t a mandatory course needed to apply for Sheridan (I’m pretty sure the required courses are English, Humanities, and a certain number of Art courses). Would I still need to take the French courses? Also if students are allowed to go straight to Sheridan after the first year (without graduating cegep), can I still get accepted as a second year if I couldn’t graduate cegep for not taking a French course & not doing French exit exam (since first years doesn’t need to graduate to be accepted as well)?

2- My overall avg for my first year is for sure under or within 60’s (which is lower than required overall avg of 65%). Now if I hypothetically did amazing and got a realistic overall avg of high 80’s for all my courses next year, would Sheridan care about the first semester or would it be an avg of the two years. Also if the summer course is there to “make-up” for my last year’s mistake, would I calculate my avg with both the shitty humanities and good humanities or would shitty humanities mark just be on my records and not on my avg?

3- Does having a Quebec PR card let me apply as a domestic student or an international student?

4-I’ve been hearing so many people talk about how Sheridan only focuses on the portfolio and the grades are only important when applying (to have a required avg of above a 65%) or when you are waitlist because your portfolio is mediocre (your grades are used to compared with other waitlisted student’s grades and whoever had a better grade gets accepted. Is it true? So as long as I have an overall avg of above 65% and have a really good portfolio, they wouldn’t care abt my grade?

Extra

I am absolutely terrible at French and personally with all the experience I’ve had with Quebec in the span of 5 years, I absolutely do not want to learn it.

I don’t have high expectations for people to see this post because it’s very long. I’ll most likely just ask this to my school advisor (in a months when new semester starts). But obviously it will be nice if I have someone who used to live in Quebec/ studied in cegeps (that now attend Sheridan animation) to tell me about their experience

I was in a very dark place during my first year. I have received enough criticism around me in regard to it so please, only use that information to understand the situation.

I am taking the required art courses (think).

I do know how to draw as I took professional art classes for a long time but I will be searching for a Sheridan portfolio tutor(s) soon.

How many times have you guys gone to college a week as a freshman?

Hi guys! I'm currently supposed to enroll this September and I just wanna know how many times you guys went to college a week as a freshman! I know there is a difference between a faculty, but now I'm considering where I should look for the rent right now. Cuz I think it will be okay to settle in downtown or midtown Toronto if I go to college 3times a week

Late

Has anyone at Sheridan been able to get a prerequisite override or take a prerequisite and the next course at the same time?

I'm in a situation where I still have one course from Semester 2 left, but most of my remaining courses are from Semesters 4 and 5. The Semester 2 course is blocking the Semester 3 course, and that ends up delaying everything else. I really don't want to graduate a semester or a year late because of one course.

Has anyone gotten approval to take both courses concurrently or received a prerequisite waiver? If so, who did you contact (program coordinator, advisor, etc.) and what was the process like?

Thanks!

PRACTICAL NURSING 🚫

I’m still waiting for my midterm results for Mathematics but I’m pretty sure I did really badly. I’m confused about the difference between failing a semester and dropping out.
If I fail my midterms or even the semester, what usually happens? Can I retake courses or continue?
If I choose to drop out instead, does that affect my academic record or future semesters differently than failing ??so I’d appreciate advice from anyone who’s been through this or knows how it works.
Thanks!

Computer Systems Technology – Software Development and Network Engineering at trafalgar campus or Davis

Recently just got accepted into the program but at both campuses, having a hard time deciding between which campus to go to. The distance for me is pretty much identical, so that doesn’t have a factor. I would say the social life, profs and more opportunities, and also the people , that is what I care most of. With that being said, which campus is best to go with?
