Hi,
we’re four guys, and we’ve put together Westminster’s restaurant scene in an app called Vota. The concept is simple: you see two places side by side (for example Famille vs. Kachina Southwestern Grill), you choose the place you’d rather go to, and the ranking updates instantly. The more people vote, the more accurate the list gets over time. There are still a few duplicates here and there, but I’m continuously cleaning up the data.

Here’s the iPhone version, with categories that actually fit Westminster’s food scene:
https://apps.apple.com/app/vota-restaurant-ratings/id6744969212

And here’s the Android version (finally live):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vota.app

P.S. I’m not from Westminster (I live in Gothenburg). I’m not collecting data, not selling anything, and the app does not use AI-generated content. I’m posting in a few different subreddits because we now support more regions, and I genuinely want honest feedback from people who actually know the area.

Pharmacy for suboxone?

Im a recovering opioid addict. Getting better though but had to go the medication assisted therapy route to get clean. With that being said when I try to get my script filled most pharmacies do not give me the time of day to even look to see if they have it. They see word suboxone and send me on my way. Why? I dunno.. but its kinda BS and putting my recovery in risk of relapse. Today i will spend the next 3 hours driving to pharmacy to pharmacy to ask. You cant call and be told bc its a controlled substance. Anyone a fellow addict in recovery that knows a pharmacy willing to help fill suboxone?

Anybody else think it's hot enough in Shreveport?

The hypocrisy is hard to ignore, and it comes down to a classic case of corporate "Not In My Backyard" (NIMBY) economics.

For the last decade, tech giants headquartered on the West Coast branded themselves as the moral leaders of green energy, carbon offsets, and aggressive climate action. But as soon as the race for AI computing power kicked into overdrive, their actual playbook shifted fast:

Exporting the Footprint: Tech hubs like Seattle, Silicon Valley, and Redmond like to keep their own backyards clean, regulated, and picturesque. When they need cheap, endless electricity, vast tracts of inexpensive land, and water rights to cool server racks, they head to places like the Ark-La-Tex, rural Georgia, and the Midwest.

Behind-Closed-Doors Tax Deals: These mega-corporations use non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) to negotiate massive property tax breaks and priority access to municipal utilities before the public even gets a town hall meeting.

Rewriting the Rulebook: When regular citizens face rising electric rates, peak-use surcharges, or water restrictions, tech companies are busy signing long-term power purchase agreements that tie up local utility capacity for decades.

The sudden shift boils down to cold corporate priorities: when PR and green pledges get in the way of a multi-billion-dollar tech race, the pledges get quietly sidelined, and the communities hosting the heavy infrastructure get left dealing with the actual physical strain on the grid, the water, and the thermometer.

The Byrd speeding camera can kiss my ass

I support school zones, obviously I want things to be safe for students, but fuck does it piss me off that I'm now going to have to pay the state 300+ fucking dollars because I forgot school was back in session and went a HORRIFYING, DISGUSTING 30 MILES PER HOUR in a 25 mph school zone. Also, since when does Byrd get out at 2:15??? When the fuck did that happen???

I haven't even gotten the ticket yet but I know it's coming, and what's worse is I am going to be in another fucking state for the majority of this year, so I'm going to miss my court date if I get a citation. Any advice on what to do? Or anything cathartic I can hear?

Why Are We Accepting This?

These are human beings. I don't care what your take on immigration is, it is INCREDIBLY WRONG to treat people like this. This is going to kill people. If we authorize the state to lock people in a cage for any reason, we are obligated to ensure the people locked up are given healthy food and water in sufficient amounts to maintain their health.

Treating people like this is unacceptable. It's unconscionable. This should NOT be allowed!

Acquaintances or friends in the area

Ive already made a post like this before and have met a few people but those faded a while ago. Im a 20 year old girl in college and working. Ive wanted some friends here to do things with so im looking for that. And yes Ive tried college, not sure if it matters but I go to a community college and I have put myself out there, just havent met the “right” people I guess. Everyone ive met in my first semester I no longer talk to.

Some things I like to do include going to the movies, food places, skating, listening to music, gaming (console player), and one thing Im interested in getting into is the gym, just would like a “gym buddy” to go with. I currently havent been to any though. Anyways Im open to getting to know people but I dont want to be in the talking stage for so long, I like to go out its just a personal preference its more fun to me than texting all the time.

So yeah im just looking for friends, around my age preferably.

Is anyone having problems with discolored water?

Is Shreveport experiencing problems with brown water? I live in a small town outside of Shreveport that draws its water from Cross Lake. Our water is currently brown due to high levels of manganese and has been for a couple of weeks. It’s so bad that I cannot wash my white laundry. Before I head to the laundromat, does Shreveport water look better than this?

Broken wrist need surgery - no insurance

So yesterday fiance was out exercising, he got onto his skateboard for old times sake, long story short he fell backwards and broke his wrist badly. Its been broken before as a teen, at WK ER they put it in a sling and said it impacted upon itself meaning he needs screws and plates a pretty serious and expensive surgery. He just started a new position but also hasn't enrolled in any health insurance - we live paycheck to paycheck although we don't want for much. Just no savings no extra money to speak of. He doesn't qualify for fin aid at Oschner and so we assume the same at WK. Still making phone calls seeing if his job would cover this emergency or something. Never been in this situation not sure what to do or where to turn just looking for advice, resources, ideas. He doesn't want to ask for help like a gofundme or something like that we really just want to get the surgery and care done and possibly pay it off afterwards or something but no idea how that would work or if its possible. Hes in a lot of pain and I'm totally stressed out.

APTs in Shreveport

I am moving to shreveport. Have been looking at these price ranges and found these apartments.

The Standard Downtown Lofts 509 Market St, Shreveport, LA 7110

Anyone have any input on these or should I look around other places.

My new job is near downtown riverfront. Would be my big boy job so trynna get something nice yet not feel so alone. So I feel apartments might be the way to go. Tryna find something under 1K but open to a roommate if need be. I might need to drive around once I get there and see whats close and near.

Geekd Con Needs to Step it Up

We go to Geekd con every year but this year we’re skipping it. Besides 80 booths selling the same 5 things, the lineup this year is horrendous. Who the fuck wants to meet some dudes who wore a mask in 8 different Scream movies. And the main draw was David Arquette??? And he cancelled. So now it’s McLovin and a bunch of other C listers. I know we’re not Dallas, but damn quality over quantity.
