Camera removed from system

I have ten cameras connected to my account, that is, until yesterday, when I noticed it was only showing nine. I went to the settings page, and sure enough, one camera is completely missing. I'm kind of concerned that a device can disappear like that. Has anyone else had this issue?

I'm a former outsourced SimpliSafe employee. AMA.

I worked for SimpliSafe through an outsourcing company. I spent nearly three years as a frontline agent and over a year as a supervisor. Ask me anything.

Ps. I'm going to sleep and answer tomorrow when I can.

Did Simplisafe stop doing low battery warning notifications?

For the first few years with my system, once the initial batteries started to go, I would get "low battery" warnings when I would arm/disarm the system. For the last couple of years, I just get a "device not responding" or "device offline" notification because the battery has fully died.

Is this happening to anyone else? Is there a way to get the low battery warnings back?

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY

I was a first time homeowner looking for a security system to buy. I ended up going with SimpliSafe and after two years, it has been the worst decision of my life. The cameras are constantly disconnecting, and you can never get them to reconnect without resetting the entire camera, even the doorbell camera disconnects this security system was by far the worst purchase of my entire life.

Has anyone tested monitoring center response time?

We've tried it once, last fall and it took a bit longer than anticipated, but that could have been a one-off. Wondering if anyone else periodically tests how soon SS monitoring calls when your alarm's triggered. (Keep in mind that even when they call, that's not when they're contacting first responders. So I would guess that time between alarm and 911 contact by SimpleSafe would be about 3-4 minutes minimal?)

False Alarms Happening Almost Daily

I have been a customer for years and never experienced what I am experiencing now.

The other month, my cat started sitting off the burglar alarm when I was away from home. Basically, I saw it happened twice and then changed my sensitivity setting to the lowest sensitivity.

In both instances, he wasn’t easy to see on the edge of the screen so the alarm went off when he showed up in the center. The first time he’s been walking down the hallway he is a black cat and it was dark in the hallway, so it went off when he passed in front of the white wall, where some sunlight was also hitting it from a nearby window the second time he’d been under the dining room table and walked out from under it.

But now the alarm is going off, almost nightly when a speck of dust will float in front of the camera. One time there was a fly.

I am so tired this keeps waking me up in the middle of the night and at this point, I feel like somebody could break in and I’m just going to ignore the alarm and turn it off because this keeps happening.

Is this happening with anybody else?

I’ve tried talking to dispatch when they call. I’ve been told to check my settings, which I already have. I was also told that the battery may be low, except this is plugged into the wall.

Was there some type of software update? I’m wondering if there’s some AI usage that’s causing this not to work properly cause that would make the most sense considering I’ve never had this issue in the multiple years that I’ve been a customer and had this camera.

I would love to hear from anybody else.

I’m at the point that I’m ready to just cancel.

Anyone else get an email about replacing your base station today?

I got an email saying my base station needed to be replaced and I needed to affirm my shipping address in the app so they can ship the replacement.

I don’t see anywhere to do that. My address is the same as it’s been for years.

More SimpliSafe BS with new base station

I get a message out of the blue last week saying they are sending me a new base station, apparently mine has some issues, or maybe it’s everyone I don’t know. Received the new base station today and learn, of course that I now have to go around to every device I have and essentially reset it/reconnect it. I suppose it makes sense that would need to be done, but I have four outdoor cameras, a couple of them I need ladders to access, several window, entry sensors, motion sensors etc. This is going to take a long time and generally be a pain in the ass. It’ll probably also do that thing where the trouble signal will beep or flash the next 24 hours because that’s what these things do when you add or change anything. I guess I’m glad they told me there’s an issue, but this company is a perpetual hot mess! I’ve had ongoing trouble with various pieces of equipment during my 3 1/2 years with this service. I pay for monitoring, I’ve expanded this system, and I swear I regret all of it. Having a home security system should not be this complicated and it should not pedal this kind of cheap Chinese-made crap. I’m thinking of just ending the monitoring, keeping the devices and slowly beginning to figure out how to replace it.

The SimpliSafe "Retention Trap": Why I finally cancelled my £30/month subscription

I wanted to share my experience after two years with SimpliSafe, mostly as a heads-up for anyone else feeling stuck in their subscription loop or considering them for a new home.

The Setup
Two years ago, we dropped about £500 on the full kit—motion sensors, entry sensors, and cameras (indoor and outdoor). We signed up for the full monitoring plan, which eventually hit £29.99/month.

The Camera Issue
The outdoor cameras have been a constant headache. Frequent connection issues and lag meant they never performed as well as much cheaper alternatives (like Blink). When I raised this, the support team just kept looping me back to "technical troubleshooting" rather than acknowledging the hardware's limitations.

The "Hidden" Tiers
This is what really annoyed me: SimpliSafe makes it nearly impossible to find their lower-tier plans. If you look at their site, you see the premium monitored options. It wasn't until I did some digging (and used AI to cross-reference their actual terms) that I discovered:

  1. The Self-Monitoring Plan: Significantly cheaper but buried.

  2. The Free Tier: Basic functionality, but they act like it doesn't exist.

The Cancellation Gauntlet
When I finally called to cancel, I had to fight through a scripted maze:

The "Technical" Diversion: The first agent tried to force me into more troubleshooting to "fix" the cameras so I wouldn't cancel.

The Discount Carrot: Once they realised I was leaving, they suddenly found a 20% discount, which then magically became a 50% discount.

The "Immediate Loss" Threat: The agent told me that if I cancelled today, I’d lose all access immediately, even though I have 10 days left in the billing cycle. It felt like a desperate attempt to protect their retention stats by making me call back later.

The Verdict
I’ve officially cancelled, and honestly, it’s a relief. We're moving to a hybrid approach—likely using Amazon/Blink for cloud storage which is around £8/month and offers local storage options.
SimpliSafe's business model seems less about security and more about aggressive subscription retention. If you're looking for a fair, competitive price without being grilled for 20 minutes just to leave, I’d look elsewhere.
Saving £30/month feels great.

Simpli Safe Review

I recently purchased a home that had Simpli-Safe installed in it. I thought, may as well just give it a fair shot. After 5 months I can clearly state you are better off spending extra money avoiding this company all together. The cameras don’t provide accurate video when you need it, the monitoring services are insanely expensive and do a terrible job at deescalating false alarms. I had a crash in my front yard 10 seconds after my doorbell camera was pressed. The video cuts out right before the wreck happens and doesn’t start working until the wreck is over.

There is no backup, no where to see the actual full video it’s just frozen for that time period. I use Google Fiber internet which is very reliable in my area.

Customer service:
This really takes the cake for the worst experience. I was transferred 20 times and called 5-7 times after being hung up on or just disconnected. I wasn’t even being rude at first, I just wanted the video as I feel the cops charged the wrong driver with the fault. Instead I have nothing but a video of before and after.

iPhone Widget Not Working

So I’ve used the “system arming” widget on my iPhone 16 Plus (iOS 26.4.2) for several months with no problem. Yesterday, it went blank out of no where— I’ve uninstalled it and reinstalled multiple times since then, with varying time in between, and looked in the app to no avail. Is anyone else having this problem?

Entry sensor open - base station issue?

Anyone have a solution for this? Every time I arm the system the base station, it states “entry sensor open”. I have checked all the entry sensors and they are closed but all the entry sensors on the app also say closed. Any ideas? TIA!

System does not ask for PIN until door is closed

We have had a SimpliSafe system for a few years now. A couple weeks ago I noticed that when the alarm is set in Away mode and I come inside the keypad does not prompt for a PIN or start the countdown on the alarm until we close the door.

Anyone know why this is happening or how to fix it? I can’t believe this is an intentional feature since all a thief would need to do to bypass the alarm is leave the door open.

Buying secondhand

I’ve found this system on Marketplace place. I’m just wanting the siren, indoor camera, & keypad mostly to add to my existing system. I just need to make sure it’s not registered to them correct? Is there a way to tell if it’s still connected to an account on my end prior?

Action Required: Your Base Station’s Cellular Backup May Disconnect Unless Replaced With a Free Replacement | SimpliSafe Support Home

How many other customers got this notification today?

I’ve had two Base Station replacements in the past because of this issue. I tried to tell them there was an issue over a year ago and they convinced me it was my local cell service who was to blame. We’ve been using T-Mobile Backup Internet as an alternative. Hopefully with the replacement, we won’t need at anymore.

Base Station S'ware update info?

Cannot find any details on the simplisafe website as to what was changed in the most recent base station software update (Gen II base station). Is that information available?
